Do you ever look at an empty box and go "that's a nice looking box. Better not throw that out. That'll come in handy some day". You don't know what you're gonna use it for yet but it's there just in case.
What I tend to do at work is think to myself "I'll be good and get rid of all these empty boxes and ditch the clutter", and then 48 hours later be turning the place upside down trying to find a box to ship something to one of our other sites in.
I have been known to keep the really hard ones that come with wrapping paper. If you get a coat hanger and mold it you can can slip a dusting glove onto the wire and bend it, attach it to the tube, you can dust things higher up without getting on a chair.
Well, you can spend the time and attention on entering the parking space, or spend the time and attention on leaving it. My own decision tree includes whether or not I need to open the back hatch door to put stuff in. If yes, then forward park into the space - if no, then reverse in.
Your first sentence is basically my thought process too. If getting out is going to be more of a pain, because of traffic or a tight spot, I'll reverse. But if there's lots of cars waiting or I'm running late when parking I'll always go for a forward park if I can.
I'm usually more tired and anxious at the end of a drive than the start so I prefer to make life easy for myself.
That was exactly it - it would have been more of a hassle to reverse out, given the pillar, the van on the other side and the local Karen population driving around in their SUVs on their mobiles.
Only downside was I would have liked to use the hatch but the back seat did just as well.
Well done. From now, only reverse park. Once you do it a few times it becomes second nature and you'll scoff at the forward parkers (as you well should) due to your immediate superiority.
Pull through is the first option. If not available, reverse. I get very shitty when people (idiots) tailgate in a carpark and get upset when my reverse lights go on.
Someone hooted me for doing that in the Chelsea Woolworths car park when I still had Felicia. Bet they didn't expect someone in a Volvo 740 to give them the finger... ๐
I don't really understand why people want to reverse park all the time. I usually want to put things in the back of my car, so it is much more convenient if that is pointing out.
When you reverse park, you pull forward into traffic when leaving. I can still put stuff in the car when I'm reversed, unless it's a big chunky item then I'll plan ahead.

He agreed.

๐ This reminds me of my very shy aunty. She goes to a bar and asks "can IIIIII have a comefuckmecowboy". We all laughed and I said to her "you know you could've just asked for a cowboy and they would've know what you wanted" she goes "I did not know that".
Had the sudden urge to strip my bed. It was a lot of effort for a Friday night. Worked up a sweat getting that doona in the cover perfectly. My technique for this is a workout, thereโs probably an easier way. But itโs done and now I have fresh sheets sleep to look forward to.
It's crazy how tiring it can be to change bedlinen. I know this and still curse at having to do it every time. I splurge on nice sheets so the fresh sheet feeling is elevated even further. (and I change the doona cover less regularly).
Sunday's going to be linen day for me. Brand new (but washed) sheets after 2 years.
My ex actually taught me the method I use for getting a doona in a cover. You start with the cover inside out.. reach inside it to the far corners and use the corners like mittens to grab the corners of the doona where they should go. Then you just kinda pull the doona through/inside out in one big flamboyant motion like a magicians trick. Then tuck the other 2 corners in but they'll be easy, the ones near the opening. It works really well.
Before that I used to get inside the doona cover, briefly be a ghost and ghost tackle her, then awkwardly try to stuff the doona inside the cover and it'd be a whole thing.
Picked up a bit of Macca's for lunch because I hadn't had it forever and just wanted something quick, and jesus fuck do I feel sick this arvo. I'm supposed to be doing dinner but I loathe to move because my stomach's so gurgly and upset.

I'm writing a cover letter for the first time in 7 years (got my last job through contacts and personally introducing myself).
This is so tedious and frustrating. I keep writing "I bring..." and it ends up sounding like "I bring tales of adventure, stories of wisdom, and the skillset of a wizard" or something stupid like that.
I'm also trying real hard not to start a paragraph dissing myself with "While I have an unconventional background in..." - like, don't lead with negatives. hard habit to break
The best and most effective cover letter I ever wrote went like this : "This job sounds interesting. I think I can do it well." That was all I wrote. Got a call back within 15 minutes.
If someone said something original and genuinely entertaining like "I bring tales of adventure, stories of wisdom, and the skillset of a wizard" I'd give them a job!
๐ญ I wish I had a radar for detecting which people reviewing job apps would have enough of a sense of humour because I'd have os much more fun writing that.
If you love Taylor Swift or know somebody that does there is Taylor Swift Girlfriend Magazine out now with posters and stuff in it. Gee I loved Girlfriend back in day.
Ah, to relive that first time feeling. Yeah, that scene broke my heart. But I enjoyed seeing how things change after that character's absence and on rewatches was really left wondering whether his way of doing things would've survived the changing reality on the street. It isn't a cheap act, there are good narrative outcomes...
I love the show so much because even though that character's departure left a hole, there are so many other well-written, compelling characters that I never felt like it impacted the enjoyability of the show.
Dude that plays Bubbles (2nd best character after Omar) has a story where he was in the middle of shooting and was in character, a proper junkie came up to him and handed him some vials and said 'you need this more than I do'.
The show is, apparently, very very realistic and portrays those snippets of street life very accurately.
It helps where a good chunk of the cast are ex criminals and cops.

Aaaaahhh. I finally finished the entire application. My butt hurts from sitting too long and I haven't eaten since 11am and I still fluffed up a passage about time management, lol.
Once upon a time I would've felt profoundly sick at having to talk myself up so much and "sell" myself to an employer. I guess now I'm just jaded enough to recognise it's a game I have to play to keep a roof over my head. Just gotta give it a go. I'm not super invested in this job anyway tbh but figure it's the best option going atm and worth a try.
Still waiting for that 3-day a week/short term contract job that would work so much better for me.
Called up Cennalink because the situation with the car and the payout is enough of a grey area that I need to talk to an actual person.

Recent Wikipedia rabbit holes have taken me to some interesting places. Did you know you can cook watermelon rinds?!? Apparently it tastes like a cross between squash/zucchini, carrot and cucumber. I don't normally even buy watermelon but I have to try this out...
Melon & Lemon jam was a staple of my childhood. That is, jam made from melon rind cooked translucent with lemon juice for the pectin. Very beautiful on the plate or as a topping on pies - 1 cm cubed pale yellowgreen jewels in a sweet/tart matrix. Gorgeous on crumpets. Not made anymore as farmers aren't growing the right kind of melon for jam, which was too bitter and stringy to eat raw but the rind cooked up beautiful. Let us know if watermelon rind cooks up translucent - if so I want to try making jam with it.
Part of my wiki travels suggest that the suspected ancestor of sweet watermelons was indeed bitter and stringy as well. A close relative continued to be grown for jams (due to its high pectin content) as citron melon. I imagine it's quite a niche product.
This recipe for watermelon rind jam - no watermelon flesh - sounds very similar to what you were describing. Looks translucent!
e: it appears there are in fact many receipes for watermelon rind preserves (cubed) - most stating they are old recipes, some from the Depression era, or traditional recipes hailing from Iran, Armenia, Greece... I reckon if you get a cheaper watermelon that's got more rind than usual it would be great for making these preserves.
Banana peels gross me out, the texture is yuck. But watermelon rinds sound intriguing - so much firm edible matter that gets wasted, it's clean and fresh and blemish free (it's generally recommended to peel the tough green skin off). I'd give it a go
Doesn't matter what you do to Stone's GG wine - instant hangover for anyone over 18. Doesn't matter what you mix it with either. Have written myself off far too many times in my yoof on that shit. Made from hospital grade brandy and offcuts from the glace ginger industry. And hospital grade brandy is distilled grape stalks and seeds and only good for disinfectant. Granted it's quite good disinfectant.
EDIT for l'esprit d'escalier - think of the above as chocolate/orange flavored Handy Andy.
IIRC it was about 2 tsp choc, a dash of hot water to melt it and a shot of cointreau, possibly topped off with soy or milk. It was not a professional shot but more of a stoned bartender creation in a bar with a very limited range - Meyers Place.
But choc and orange, it's not rocket science, you're a capable person.
(Spent most of my time in Melbourne in areas that rarely get night copters, so now I know what people go on about... I'd close the window but it'll get stuffy. Wonder what/who they're looking for.)
Sorting the craft stuff into tubs and deciding what to get rid of. I really should be decluttering my wardrobe but turns out it's the newer 'replacement' clothes I want to ditch (plus the still new looking things that don't get worn) and the tatty frequently used clothes I want to keep.
The obvious answer is to get rid of both worn out and unworn items then buy more clothes I will actually wear, but the options in my price range are not looking good. It really seems the quality of clothing has gone down steeply
It's more that they're scratchy, thin, not breathable, uncomfortable seams and stuff like that. Or they have a skimpier cut which makes them sit weird. Though I have noticed the size/fit on things can be all over the place too
Anyone awake enough to play brains trust? I want a female singer from approx 1989. Rich voice like Tracy Chapman, pretty sure Caucasian but had long dreads. Album cover
Kaleidoscopeic? Something about a broken heart or tea cups?
DT brain trust, I'm wanting to replace the radio in my car and was wondering how anyone in here has gone about it? Usually I would do something like this myself, but new car has lots of scary buttons and I'm feeling lazy about it.
Do I buy the parts and drop it at the mechanic, do I go to a special place, do I just say I want a new radio and they collect all the bits and do it?
Edit - I'm in the outer west if anyone has any recommendations.
If it's got a standard DIN/double-DIN head unit then it's usually fairly straightforward, but these are becoming more rare.
If it's fully integrated with the car and not a 'standalone-style' unit stuck in there, then it gets more complex. There are sometimes third party units that get buried in the dash or replace part of the dash (I know this is an option for Falcon/Territory) that also take over the HVAC and other controls, but your mileage may vary and install can get pretty tricky.
Mines got an info system in the dash above the radio which is why I loathe to touch it. Such a pain cause as I said I'd just do it myself, but I'd rather not end up costing myself more money by accidentally crossing my wires.
In your position (I was in similar with Felicia) I'd check with the mechanic first and they'll tell you whether to get the parts and bring it in or go to either a car place that sells radios or somewhere like JB HIFI and have them do it.
I'm in the south east so can't help you with recs, alas.
I just saw the Autobahn near me does it, and they have some good reviews. Might give them a ring and see how that goes, fingers crossed, I'm very very over the radio.
Depends on the model, but you might be able to find a Joying (Android) unit that fits your car - Website. I replaced the stock radio on a 2010 Honda CRV with one. It came with the correct wiring harness, was shaped to fit in the same space etc. Installed myself following a YouTube tutorial, took about an hour or so. Hardest bit was finding and then not breaking the little clips on the dash as I took it off.
This week has absolutely blazed by. I feel like I just got back from my border trip last weekend. Now I gotta think of what to do THIS weekend! I have absolutely no idea what I want to do but I won't sit in my apartment for it, that's for sure.

Parking between 2 large cars with a small hatch back is a nightmare to navigate when you're leaving and having to reverse.
So much easier leaving when reverse parked. I only front park when there's too much traffic around or I need to get in quickly to do something.

There was talk of electrons and...that's as far as I remember because I tuned out but I nodded at the right times then I made an escape but not before I turned to the dog and said "I live in a house with nerds". He agreed.

Had the sudden urge to strip my bed. It was a lot of effort for a Friday night. Worked up a sweat getting that doona in the cover perfectly. My technique for this is a workout, thereโs probably an easier way. But itโs done and now I have fresh sheets sleep to look forward to.
just_kitten@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 2y
It's crazy how tiring it can be to change bedlinen. I know this and still curse at having to do it every time. I splurge on nice sheets so the fresh sheet feeling is elevated even further. (and I change the doona cover less regularly).
Sunday's going to be linen day for me. Brand new (but washed) sheets after 2 years.
bull@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 2y

Recent Wikipedia rabbit holes have taken me to some interesting places. Did you know you can cook watermelon rinds?!? Apparently it tastes like a cross between squash/zucchini, carrot and cucumber. I don't normally even buy watermelon but I have to try this out...
Thornburywitch@aussie.zone · 5 pts · 2y
Melon & Lemon jam was a staple of my childhood. That is, jam made from melon rind cooked translucent with lemon juice for the pectin. Very beautiful on the plate or as a topping on pies - 1 cm cubed pale yellowgreen jewels in a sweet/tart matrix. Gorgeous on crumpets. Not made anymore as farmers aren't growing the right kind of melon for jam, which was too bitter and stringy to eat raw but the rind cooked up beautiful. Let us know if watermelon rind cooks up translucent - if so I want to try making jam with it.
Catfish@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 2y
I imagine the melons were more along the lines of the below. You donโt need to go full GMO salmon gene splicing to massively change a plant.
just_kitten@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 2y
Thornburywitch@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 2y
Oooh thanks for the recipie - this looks very similar.
Catfish@aussie.zone · 5 pts · 2y

just_kitten@aussie.zone · 4 pts · 2y
Banana peels gross me out, the texture is yuck. But watermelon rinds sound intriguing - so much firm edible matter that gets wasted, it's clean and fresh and blemish free (it's generally recommended to peel the tough green skin off). I'd give it a go

Edit - I'm in the outer west if anyone has any recommendations.
mysticgreg@aussie.zone · 4 pts · 2y
Done a few, realllllyyy depends on the car.
If it's got a standard DIN/double-DIN head unit then it's usually fairly straightforward, but these are becoming more rare.
If it's fully integrated with the car and not a 'standalone-style' unit stuck in there, then it gets more complex. There are sometimes third party units that get buried in the dash or replace part of the dash (I know this is an option for Falcon/Territory) that also take over the HVAC and other controls, but your mileage may vary and install can get pretty tricky.
bananafungus@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 2y
Mines got an info system in the dash above the radio which is why I loathe to touch it. Such a pain cause as I said I'd just do it myself, but I'd rather not end up costing myself more money by accidentally crossing my wires.
oztrin@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 2y
In your position (I was in similar with Felicia) I'd check with the mechanic first and they'll tell you whether to get the parts and bring it in or go to either a car place that sells radios or somewhere like JB HIFI and have them do it.
I'm in the south east so can't help you with recs, alas.
bananafungus@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 2y
I just saw the Autobahn near me does it, and they have some good reviews. Might give them a ring and see how that goes, fingers crossed, I'm very very over the radio.
calhoon2005@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 2y
Depends on the model, but you might be able to find a Joying (Android) unit that fits your car - Website. I replaced the stock radio on a 2010 Honda CRV with one. It came with the correct wiring harness, was shaped to fit in the same space etc. Installed myself following a YouTube tutorial, took about an hour or so. Hardest bit was finding and then not breaking the little clips on the dash as I took it off.
