Bruce Lehrmann raped Brittany Higgins, judge finds.

I'm shocked, I tell you!

Extra bonus comment: "Having escaped the lion's den, Mr Lehrmann made the mistake of coming back for his hat."
Such a great way to put it. That criminal trial was not going his way. When he escaped with a mistrial, he really should have faded into obscurity. But noooooooooo, he willingly went back for more. Idiot.

To think, 5 years ago, he harbored the idea of going into politics.

TinyBreak@aussie.zone · 9 pts · 2y

so now can we drag 7 over the coals for buying this fucker hookers and blow?

melbaboutown@aussie.zone · 6 pts · 2y

Good. (The validation of the finding, not that it happened.) They put her through so much shit.

Duenan@aussie.zone · 5 pts · 2y

Been looking at this today. Sadly even though the judge has come to that judgement it can't incur any criminal penalties according to the ABC.

""I hasten to stress this is a finding on the balance of probabilities."

Mr Lehrmann faced a criminal trial in the ACT Supreme Court in 2022, which collapsed without a verdict due to juror misconduct.

This trial is a civil defamation trial where the burden of proof is less and does not lead to any criminal punishment."

Despite that it's a good ruling.

SituationCake@aussie.zone · 5 pts · 2y

Heโ€™s so full of himself, itโ€™s amazing his head can squeeze through the courtroom doors. But I guess thatโ€™s what makes a personality for politics, probably would have risen to the top in no time. Hopefully he finally fades away never to be seen again.

Thought youse might like a little laugh. This is my iron. It's about 25 years old. It still looks brand new. It's like a kid's toy. It's the size of a tissue box. My mum bought it when I moved out of home. Her words were "You may need it one day". Today is that day.

Tip:
Don't fall for the temptation of cranking it to max heat. Reserve that for linen and pure cotton. Medium heat will work perfectly well in almost all circumstances.

On Saturday morning we woke up to the news my FIL had a mini stroke the night before. My husband got a pretty nasty text from his sister which he was about to retaliate to until I reminded him that she just buried her FIL three days ago. Then we have stabbings and shit going on overseas, protests here and I still had to hem pants for my daughter for school tomorrow. Although nothing really directly affected me I'm like "enough already". Hence the reason Comfortably Numb popped into my head last night.

Update: Just got good news that my FIL is being discharged from hospital in the next couple of hours.

TinyBreak@aussie.zone · 5 pts · 2y (1 reply)

Controversial opinion, but I think the tv coverage of the Bondi incident has been too saturated. The exact same images and story over and over again without anything new to report. Yes, itโ€™s a terrible tragedy. But wow the media latches on and just wonโ€™t let go until itโ€™s absolutely drained every last drop of blood out of it.

TinyBreak@aussie.zone · 6 pts · 2y

did you see the footage broadcast live on Saturday arvo? I thought the presenter was about to pop a boner from the excitement of having a story. It was disgusting.

SpinMeAround@aussie.zone · 5 pts · 2y

Or something "more interesting" comes up. It's fucked.

CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone · 4 pts · 2y

Agree.

tone212_@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 2y

Yes! I noticed this. I think this has become much more common after the COVID era of people being glued to media for an extended period of time. The powers that be want that behaviour to continue.

Seagoon_@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 2y

I don't watch aussie news at all and read newspapers maybe once a week

so missed all the arseholery by the media

Duenan@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 2y

I Agree with you.

I saw quite a bit on tv over the weekend and all they did was rehash and even reword sentences over and over just to extend the coverage and constantly interview people who said were guessing what happened but that the police had to complete their investigations and stuff before they could make a factual statement.

Baku@aussie.zone · 1 pts · 2y

PeelerSheila@aussie.zone · 1 pts · 2y

I didn't watch a lot about it but was still surprised at how gratuitous some of the images and footage were. One that surprised me was the ABC when they did an article about the response from the guy's parents and actually showed the police car outside their house.. We don't need to see where his parents live, they've done no wrong and feel awful about it all, why show everyone where they live?

It's been a helluva day after a busy week - 4 loads of laundry, wrangling more car inspection logistics, dealing with more family drama, figuring out work things...

Luckily I was granted my first wfh day tomorrow so I don't need to worry about getting to work and organising lunch on top of it all. Slotted in a car inspection that feels very promising. Please cross your fingers for me that this is the one, it ticks all the boxes. I really need something before next week...

My apartment is the physical manifestation of depression and untreated ADHD. I've written a list for each room and general cleaning, and will start from the back and move to the front.

Bathroom and kitchen sinks cleaned, toilet done. Vacc'd the study and hallway. Wiped windows, benches, fridge and walls.

Tomorrow I will tackle the bedroom and living rooms and hopefully my LL won't realise I'm an actual piece of shit.

Also, can anyone confirm that lack of airflow causes mold? I found some on the fridge and windows and wonder if my lack of flyscreen is to blame? (As in I am hesitant to open doors/windows due to bugs because I don't have flyscreen at all). Weighing up whether it is worth grabbing those temp ones from Bunnings or not...

CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone · 7 pts · 2y (2 replies)

It's probably condensation from cooking. If you have a kitchen door to the outside keep it open a little during cooking and always use your range hood if you have one.

StudChud@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 2y (1 reply)

The kitchen is in the complete opposite side of the room to the windows ๐Ÿ˜ญ and we do use the rangehood. I disinfected the windows and fridge and will keep an eye on it.

Nothing in the bathroom, interestingly, doesn't have windows either. But it does have two exhaust fans ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ

Freakin love the home affairs youtube ad talking about setting up Multifactor auth. I mean, Bro I'm in talks right now with Microsoft regarding best practices of conditional access MFA and the depreciation of per user MFA policies, so you might've wasted the budget on me. But its good to see someone OTHER than the banks starting to push this shit. We've gotta get past this "I'm old. I dont GET computers" attitudes, cause if that's your take you better get off the internet and go back to a pen and paper as you're doing exactly what attackers want you to do: Bury your head in the sand under the guise of "its all too hard".

A lot of people you see having episodes are fucked on ice. I know this for a fact because I used to run with a lot of them.

Some want to quit and they should have access to treatment and resources to allow them to reintegrate into society.

But then there's the others. And honestly, these people are the larger percentage. They don't want to quit. They either see no issue with their lifestyle or are too dependant to even consider quitting.

It's this second cohort we need to figure out what to do with. The first lot just need government funding.

Baku@aussie.zone · 5 pts · 2y (1 reply)

TinyBreak@aussie.zone · 5 pts · 2y

Perhaps the solution for the second group is to figure out a way to make them not get on drugs in the first place, at least not the variety that is prone to inducing psychosis.

That requires some really difficult conversations about how western society is broken AF, and no one seemingly wants to have that cause it doesn't help the capitalist system.

Taleya@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 2y (2 replies)

Both of them are due to Shit Life Syndrome. Honestly with everything electronically tuned to produce the biggest state of fear imaginable on top of end stage capitalism, I'm not surprised that substance escapism is rampant.

TinyBreak@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 2y (1 reply)

that substance escapism is rampant.

escapism as an addiction is a huge problem. But no one wants to talk about phone or alcohol addiction as its often not as public.

Taleya@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 2y

I'd easily argue alcohol addiction is very much public in Australia. But as long as it's the amiable cool fun guy social drinking you get a pass.

It's probably really good the institutions were closed due to the human rights violations. But austerity and cuts in mental health have done so much damage.

Nath@aussie.zone · 5 pts · 2y (1 reply)

It's a classic tactic: sit at the aisle and look like a hassle to sit near. Maybe put a bag next to you. When there are free seats, this even works - people will subconsciously just go sit somewhere easier. But there comes a point where that is the only seat and someone will sit there.

Carpet moths and nests have been sprayed with cleaning solution (because bug spray is exxy and unsafe for the cat, this cleaning solution is meant to be safe though) and they seem to be carking it. I hate myself for not realising sooner - depression is a hell of an illness ๐Ÿ˜“

Edit: also located small handheld vacc so I can clean the exhaust fans in the bathroom.

I can see why people hire cleaners.

melbaboutown@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 2y (2 replies)

Don't beat yourself up. I totally get it.

I'd be interested in knowing the cat safe cleaning product that kills carpet moths pls ๐Ÿ‘€ One still flew by last night

::: spoiler For what I know of/use

I hate that there aren't more safe products for using around cats. There is Sundew flea control spray which I don't use as it's scented in Vanilla and Lavender, but if you're not worried about scent around the cat that costs less. It's pyrethrin free so seems safe.

Another more expensive option is the Frontline spray. That's also pyrethrin free, they say to spray it on the pet but due to cost I save it to spray in carpeted places that are harder to vacuum frequently/bugs may easily flee to and hit the more open spaces with the vacuum. These are obviously flea products but I don't think moths would like them much.

Between moths and fleas I'm still hot washing and drying all my clothes to put in bags and plastic tubs.

I find the pheromone glue traps are good too, they're catching some moths and seeing new bodies lets you know if they're still around. :::

StudChud@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 2y (1 reply)

Idk if it is actually safe, but it's just the cleaning powder mixed with water. Diluted. But it doesn't seem to set the cat off or make him sick.

They come in sachets and you just add to water in a squirt bottle.

I've chucked out what I could, that has moth shit on it, and sprayed the stuff I cannot wash. The stuff I can wash is going through a few hot water cycles with some detergent. Idk if that will be enough, having worked for pest control I know they're fkn hard to be rid of. But maybe this will cull them down significantly that my LL won't lose their freaking minds ๐Ÿ˜ฌ

melbaboutown@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 2y

::: spoiler Moth rambles It's a shame pest control often uses chemicals that are dodgy for cats. I had my place sprayed once years ago in desperation and it's meant to be safe once dry but I was feeling pretty dizzy going back in after it was done. I wouldn't want my cat walking on it and licking her paws, and the spray takes hours to dry.

I'm washing drying and bagging my clothes and just keeping out the most frequently worn easily washed stuff in bags/tubs. Spritzing Frontline spray under furniture, inside the hanging fabric shoe shelves I use as a linen press, and will do the inside of my crappy fabric/cloth drawers. Might use those to store non-cloth things. My yarns and fabric can stay in sealed space bags indefinitely until anything is dead.

I may have to scrub out my pantry with vinegar and keep any kind of food in the fridge so the moths can't feast. (I mostly do but I'm talking anything that's feasibly edible - I'm already keeping the cocoa and teabags in there and may add more.)

The decluttering and routine vacuuming is going to be the real killer though. The physical labour and focus required is really going to drag this shit out unless I get help. If it ever gets resolved. Thought they were gone but saw one fly past. I don't even know how the little bastards got in. :::

My workplace does not have a dog of any sort.

Um maybe you, as a company, need to come together and train the dog that is annoying that random person. So inconsiderate /s lol

I'm very very glad that this sudden and weird internet outage happened this close to five. Shitty that I'm WFH when it happened though.

Anyone else's network gone down? I'm with exetel in the northern suburbs on a HFC network.

EDIT: Welp, clearly something's wrong, given I called the support number 35 ago. Was supposed to have a haircut this arvo, but guess that's not happening until the weekend

I'm in Brunswick with Aussie Broadband, and my net seems to be okay. I mean, I'm connected to wifi on my phone, so I assume the ethernet connections are okay as well. Is there any outages listed on exetels website?

Not as yet, nor on NBN, but they can take a while to update their maps

Hmm, it's not like the physical locations have giant, unsubtle signage or anything. And noisy ambulances coming in and out. The locals definitely know where the ambulance station is.

I have zero clue where the Ambulance substations are in WA - other than the local one in my area. So far as I know, the ambulance services here aren't even run by the government. The main service is provided by St John's Ambulance, and there are private ambulance services that do some events and patient transfers.

I assume the latter sort operate out of some industrial area depot(s) somewhere.

St Johnโ€™s is a not for profit charity though, so I guess that makes it slightly less shit

St John's has near universal acclaim in the community. I honestly never hear anything against them.

It's not so much that the government "went the private route" as that St Johns have been providing services since the 1800's. I just looked it up, the city ambulance service started in 1922 - over 100 years ago. So, it's more that we already had a perfectly good ambulance service and the government has never needed to replace it.

TV review

Griselda, from the people who brought you Narcos and Narcos Mexico.

The first series, Narcos, was from the viewpoint of the two DEA officers who hunted down Escobar. ( I read the book, these true life guys are national heroes in Colombia ) Narcos Mexico was from the point of view of the guy who created the Mexican cartel system, third series view point of local police trying to save forgotten victims and Griselda is the view point of a drug lord.

I really recommend these stories, they are violent tho. 4.5 hobbits

The Vault. It was boring. Made me really appreciate the story telling of Uncharted, which this movie unashamedly stole from. 1 hobbit

Nobody Knows I'm Here. The lead character, I just didn't care. 1 hobbit

Yep. It's about the information, not the document. Go for it.

And I am shocked that that info isn't readily available on their website.

The only thing that occurs to me is protecting privacy of ambo staff ( i.e. you need to know where the cop station is but you don't want randos going to the ambo depot for treatment or because of some perceived slight against one of the staff).

The other realistic reason would be that there's restricted drugs stored at some (most?) of these depots and so, while you need some level of openness about where the depots are, making all those addresses available publicly would probably be perceived as a major risk. Although you can get it now, there's at least a barrier.

Likely there's a bunch of politics wrapped up in this and the lack of comms about why its restricted info is shite but I can see why it might be refused.
