I had my covid booster yesterday. Free from Chemist Warehouse (probably lots of other places too), got an easy online booking within 48 hours, was straight in and out when I got there and the pharmacist was lovely. No side effects except a sore arm.
Hospitalisations are rising again, get on it if you're due for a jab (if it's been more than 12 months).
Until covid I've never had any reactions beyond a sore arm and a mild headache. The Covid vax was so awful I have decided I can't put myself through that again.
Clearance Kmart sketch kit arrived yesterday. The first thing I cracked into was the sandpaper sharpening board. It's really small and the wooden backing is chipboard but it's a vast improvement on trying to smooth/taper pencil leads with a pack of emery boards. (Doable but awkward and very easy to start honing at the wrong angle. They were previously all that was on hand and it was a hassle to buy sandpaper alone.)

A place I was in in Sydney the landlord painted the whole building with a plastic coat sort of thing. Suddenly mould everywhere! The people downstairs lost everything they owned it was that bad.
They just spackle over it and next time it rains water comes right through again. One time they did go up to the roof and said it was some issue with water getting under the flashing due to the join of units.
Yup. Same place they moulded with paint idiocy had a plumbing block. Landlord turned up himself with a rug gaff taped to a 2x4 as a plunger and expected this object to be kept on the porch for future use.

This week the man was nominated as worker of the month. So he spun the big wheel. Literally. And won a $50 card to spend. Question is do I spend it on food, beer or fuel?
My pavement gets ripped up seemly every 2 months. Sometimes it’s gas, sometimes telecoms, sometimes fixing the mess the last lot made. Never any notice and they block the only way out of the building.
Last time I got a letter. From council I think? They're responsible for local roads. And then the planned date came and went, and they came and closed the road on a completely different date with no notice. I guess they kind of tried?
I had a letter posted about works that were nowhere near me, so disregarded it. Then I got a hastily hand addressed notice in my letterbox telling me about work starting the next day, so I think they stuffed up the address.
I haven't always been notified of work in the street where they are closing the roads, but they generally haven't completely blocked access, I've still been able to drive in and out with supervision (to make sure I don't run over the workers!). I did have to park a few houses away temporarily once when they did block access for a bit, but the workers were very friendly and helped me carry my groceries home 😁
One person won the 150 mil, and still went to work today! I would have stopped working immediately. Call in the morning, sorry I’m rich now bye. Actually, an email.
I'd keep going to work, at least until I figured out how I was going to deal with having life-changing money. Maybe another month?
Even once I'd figured out what my plans were, I expect it'd still involve some sort of work. It's not like I'm going to sit and do nothing the rest of my life. I would just be doing projects that were of interest to me and on my own terms - instead of needing to work 40 hours a week and contributing to the family finances.
Oh there would definitely be some form of work happening after winning, I agree. But I would be thinking of what that could be while on my yacht in Europe.
I doubt I could concentrate on work having just won 150 million. I think I'd need at least a week off to have a minor nervous breakdown while I sorted myself out.
Afterwards I definitely would not want a job. Which is different from not wanting to work or do anything productive. If I won a massive amount like that I would look at starting a charity, probably focused on providing housing and support to people in need. Working out how to do that would probably be a full time job, just figuring out how to actually set up and structure something like that, what the goals etc. would actually be, finding the people needed to make it a success.
I've had a brain cell chugging away in the back of my head for the last hour or so thinking of what I'd really like to do if I had this sort of money. The first idea that has come to mind is something like Coles/Woolies online. No stores. You order what you want and it is delivered in x hours.
Set it up as a non-profit to break up the duopoly. Give the farmers somewhere to sell their produce besides those jerks. I might be showing my naivety, but I believe with that much money on the logistics, it should be able to compete price-wise.
I honestly doubt 150 million would be enough for that.
What I would probably do in that regard is look at where the missing links are in allowing a more community based supply chain. Most likely something like developing community hubs that can serve as a distribution link between suppliers and consumers. Farmers and bigger suppliers are not generally set up to provide retail quantities, but you can often set up "group buying" schemes to buy in the bigger quantities and divide them up. But they tend to be limited by the lack of places to store and distribute those purchases. If you could set up points that could do that you could have people pick up directly or organise deliveries using uber or other locally available delivery options. Because everything is pre-ordered you would not be trying to handle a retail style shop but could provide a lot of the benefits. If you could provide the initial funds for communities to set up something like that and they could collect a small amount to provide ongoing running costs it would be self sustainable.
This already happens on a limited basis, through places like CERES and community centres. It even happens informally within groups - we have people at work that regularly take shares in a cow and have had things like bulk mango or pumpkin purchases split up there!
I was wondering why I wake up in morning with a body battery of 10% and sometimes 90% (according to my watch) even though I get the same amount and quality of sleep.
So I'm doing experiments and found it mainly comes down to night snacking. The more snacks and/or closer to bedtime equals lower body battery in the morning. No snacks equals higher body battery in the morning.
I find late snacking and alcohol are two culprits. Or stress/allergies/bug. I had the flu a few weeks ago and I am finding it hard to get the body battery back up. I feel like I am sleeping the same but I am obviously coughing or sniffling or something during the night. I actually find it kinda validating to know when I have to rest
On Saturday mornings I'll wake up with a body battery of 5% which means alive. You can't get no lower than that. My husband will wake up with a 70+% body battery on a Saturday. Usually he wakes with a near 100% every day so alcohol definitely plays a part.
Well it's early days for my experiment but I'd take a guess and say it wouldn't be good for energy levels the next day. Who can resist stuffing face with cheddar shapes at anytime though?
I succumbed to the desire and am paying for it now. Eating extra for the gym is fine, but waking up 3 or 4 times in the middle of the night to smash shapes into my gob isn't great when you eventually wake up properly.
Pretty sure I'm meant to be working hard, I have a lot of things to do, but instead I'm just aimlessly staring out the window or refreshing my feeds. It's been a long week.
I binged Fallout in 2 nights. I’ve never played the game so I have no comments on its authenticity, but it was a fun escapist watch. Built up the mystery in each episode to keep me clicking Next Episode.
I’m basic and lazy. For meals I like to put effort in, but snacks need to be instant. Fruit, slice of cheese, nuts, crackers, biscuits. If I’m feeling particularly energetic I might have a carrot with some dip. But I don’t faff around with making carrot sticks, just slice on the diagonal and dip in. I actually think it’s better slicing like this because more surface area to scoop the dip.
My very favourite snacks are Toasted Turkish bread with cheap olive oil spread and 333s mighty Mite or crunchy peanut butter, popcorn, dark chocolate, sliced tomatoes on wholemeal bread toast, mi Goreng noodles, something with pesto on it, olives, those rice cake things made of corn, breakfast cereal had at any time other than breakfast time, chocolate and oat snack bars, mandarins, tiramisu, chocolate eclairs, table grapes, vanilla yoghurt, lightly salted kettle type chips, bread, trail mix.. and actually a frightening amount of whatever the kids haven't finished.
Seaweed flavoured rice crackers smeared with cream cheese - agree that snax need to be instant. So packet of crackers on one side, tub of cream cheese on the other, plate and butter knife in the middle. If I'm feeling fancy I grind pepper on top of the cheese. Or plain saladas with pate.

Work relationships are so complicated.
My co-worker/superior spoke badly to someone I'm friends with and unfortunately also at the same time spoke for me.
Had to go during my break to apologise for it all I suppose explain a few things and whatnot.
Incident involved a really rudely delivered snappy comment about being busy but it came off really badly I felt.
Anyway I don't understand why she snapped like she did and I couldn't explain it and often I see double standards about things.
Just need to get through the rest of the day now trying to maintain the peace.

My pavement gets ripped up seemly every 2 months. Sometimes it’s gas, sometimes telecoms, sometimes fixing the mess the last lot made. Never any notice and they block the only way out of the building.

I usually get a letter telling me they're doing road works of some sort in my area. I can't remember who they came from though.

Last time I got a letter. From council I think? They're responsible for local roads. And then the planned date came and went, and they came and closed the road on a completely different date with no notice. I guess they kind of tried?

I had a letter posted about works that were nowhere near me, so disregarded it. Then I got a hastily hand addressed notice in my letterbox telling me about work starting the next day, so I think they stuffed up the address.
I haven't always been notified of work in the street where they are closing the roads, but they generally haven't completely blocked access, I've still been able to drive in and out with supervision (to make sure I don't run over the workers!). I did have to park a few houses away temporarily once when they did block access for a bit, but the workers were very friendly and helped me carry my groceries home 😁

Oh look it might have blown away, letterbox got missed or you might not have got one at all but they do usually notify you.
Is there any cars not parked on the road that are normally there? That might be an indication that there was notification.

I'd keep going to work, at least until I figured out how I was going to deal with having life-changing money. Maybe another month?
Even once I'd figured out what my plans were, I expect it'd still involve some sort of work. It's not like I'm going to sit and do nothing the rest of my life. I would just be doing projects that were of interest to me and on my own terms - instead of needing to work 40 hours a week and contributing to the family finances.

I doubt I could concentrate on work having just won 150 million. I think I'd need at least a week off to have a minor nervous breakdown while I sorted myself out.
Afterwards I definitely would not want a job. Which is different from not wanting to work or do anything productive. If I won a massive amount like that I would look at starting a charity, probably focused on providing housing and support to people in need. Working out how to do that would probably be a full time job, just figuring out how to actually set up and structure something like that, what the goals etc. would actually be, finding the people needed to make it a success.

I've had a brain cell chugging away in the back of my head for the last hour or so thinking of what I'd really like to do if I had this sort of money. The first idea that has come to mind is something like Coles/Woolies online. No stores. You order what you want and it is delivered in x hours.
Set it up as a non-profit to break up the duopoly. Give the farmers somewhere to sell their produce besides those jerks. I might be showing my naivety, but I believe with that much money on the logistics, it should be able to compete price-wise.

I honestly doubt 150 million would be enough for that.
What I would probably do in that regard is look at where the missing links are in allowing a more community based supply chain. Most likely something like developing community hubs that can serve as a distribution link between suppliers and consumers. Farmers and bigger suppliers are not generally set up to provide retail quantities, but you can often set up "group buying" schemes to buy in the bigger quantities and divide them up. But they tend to be limited by the lack of places to store and distribute those purchases. If you could set up points that could do that you could have people pick up directly or organise deliveries using uber or other locally available delivery options. Because everything is pre-ordered you would not be trying to handle a retail style shop but could provide a lot of the benefits. If you could provide the initial funds for communities to set up something like that and they could collect a small amount to provide ongoing running costs it would be self sustainable.
This already happens on a limited basis, through places like CERES and community centres. It even happens informally within groups - we have people at work that regularly take shares in a cow and have had things like bulk mango or pumpkin purchases split up there!

I was wondering why I wake up in morning with a body battery of 10% and sometimes 90% (according to my watch) even though I get the same amount and quality of sleep.
So I'm doing experiments and found it mainly comes down to night snacking. The more snacks and/or closer to bedtime equals lower body battery in the morning. No snacks equals higher body battery in the morning.
Interesting. I will keep experimenting.

I find late snacking and alcohol are two culprits. Or stress/allergies/bug. I had the flu a few weeks ago and I am finding it hard to get the body battery back up. I feel like I am sleeping the same but I am obviously coughing or sniffling or something during the night. I actually find it kinda validating to know when I have to rest

On Saturday mornings I'll wake up with a body battery of 5% which means alive. You can't get no lower than that. My husband will wake up with a 70+% body battery on a Saturday. Usually he wakes with a near 100% every day so alcohol definitely plays a part.

I succumbed to the desire and am paying for it now. Eating extra for the gym is fine, but waking up 3 or 4 times in the middle of the night to smash shapes into my gob isn't great when you eventually wake up properly.

I’m basic and lazy. For meals I like to put effort in, but snacks need to be instant. Fruit, slice of cheese, nuts, crackers, biscuits. If I’m feeling particularly energetic I might have a carrot with some dip. But I don’t faff around with making carrot sticks, just slice on the diagonal and dip in. I actually think it’s better slicing like this because more surface area to scoop the dip.

My very favourite snacks are Toasted Turkish bread with cheap olive oil spread and 333s mighty Mite or crunchy peanut butter, popcorn, dark chocolate, sliced tomatoes on wholemeal bread toast, mi Goreng noodles, something with pesto on it, olives, those rice cake things made of corn, breakfast cereal had at any time other than breakfast time, chocolate and oat snack bars, mandarins, tiramisu, chocolate eclairs, table grapes, vanilla yoghurt, lightly salted kettle type chips, bread, trail mix.. and actually a frightening amount of whatever the kids haven't finished.

Seaweed flavoured rice crackers smeared with cream cheese - agree that snax need to be instant. So packet of crackers on one side, tub of cream cheese on the other, plate and butter knife in the middle. If I'm feeling fancy I grind pepper on top of the cheese. Or plain saladas with pate.

The movie making, the script , is so subtle you don't notice, it looks gentle, not much seems to happen, it's just slow. Everybody else seems to making the decisions for homeless people. 5 hobbits
I read somewhere that life is about fighting entropy, without great effort everything will tend toward chaos and then cessation. We get poor when we do not work. A society that doesn't let all people work, that doesn't reward work, there is something wrong with that.
In a harsh society true wealth is having friends and family.
