A bit sad, yes. However, this image does somewhat validate my decision to stop watching after season 13. When the DVDs were selling, I bought up to that season as well. This image is also missing seasons 32-35 which looks like there are some better rated episodes. I am sure there are funny bits in the later seasons, but I am not really interested anymore.
1 - Don't even waste your time
2 - Really really bad
3 - Has some good things, but mostly bad
4 - Fell flat quite a lot, but still enjoyable
5 - Mid/Average
6 - Decent
7 - Pretty good
8 - Good
9 - Great
10 - Masterpiece
So, from my list, it looks like it's been consistently okay, which is what I would expect from a show that has run as long as it has!
That's my personal rating system too. 5 I would literally not watch, 6 probably not either unless it is maybe close to 7 and something simple like some action flick. Haven't watched the Simpsons in a long long time though. I wasn't even aware it got this bad. Even before I quit people often said the "new" stuff wasn't that good but I still felt it was quite enjoyable most of the time. I guess at some point any successful product just becomes a milking process.
This comes real handy as I am watching The Simpson as a comedy relief series with my girlfriend for the first time ever (she watched several episodes, and I watched even less).
Thanks for the recs, though I thought season 7 was pretty boring and do not remember the episode you're referring to haha. But 1-3 I know basically line for line
Krapopolis was painfully unfunny. I wanted to like it going in but everything felt so contrived. I pushed myself through 5 episodes before throwing up my hands

Those outliers in the golden era seasons are all clip shows.

Having grown up with Simpsons, it makes me sad to see it visualized that Simpsons has been awful much longer then it was actually good.

Had to look up why season 6, episode 3 was so hated...it's a clip show that I had completely blanked out of memory.

I mean, anything above a 5 is above average?

If I remember correctly the IMDB average is closer to 7.

I'm disappointed that it doesn't incorporate any other information such as artists, writers, directors, producers, budgets, etc cetera.

I mean how much new shit can you really come up with at this point? R&M ran dry after like 3 seasons and latest one was just gore porn and callbacks
What would you do if you're the writer? I think I'd pat myself on the back, milk a paycheck for a while, and find more fertile ground to impregnate

He didn't really write that much.

He wrote a decent number of classic episodes and has later been a creative head of a TV show.
There may be other classic writers who could be a showrunner, but I feel like Command definitely could.

How to get the ratings of a series on IBDb?
