basically since the 90s if you consider netscape, considering firefox was spun of from them

9point6@lemmy.world · 22 pts · 2y

And between the two we had Mozilla Suite (which is what SeaMonkey basically is today)

@tommi

They should use scissors instead of a knife, as a symbol for supporting Russian censorship.

It's the choice of either blocking some extension(s) or getting their whole domains blocked in russia, so mozilla chose the first

elmicha@feddit.de · 5 pts · 2y

This decision has been reverted.

I am not going to support the foundation.

In 2021, Mozilla Corporation generated $441 million in royalties, which represented almost 89% of its income.

As of 2021, Mozilla (including the Foundation and the wholly owned For-Profit Corporations), had total assets worth over $1.1 Billion USD [...]

tommi@pan.rent · 4 pts · 2y (3 replies)

@anonicus @firefox @mozilla Unfortunately they are just giving it here, I could not get it!

@tommi @firefox @mozilla Smh, They really need to bring back the Merch store. I used to see it as a kid but as soon as I turned adult and able to buy something, There's no more merch store.

x4740N@lemm.ee · 2 pts · 2y

Likely cost more than the funding it would have or was bringing in to support Firefox development

TexasDrunk@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 2y

I miss the old one. The current one isn't great.

Here is an alternative Piped link(s):

Wheeeee!

Piped is a privacy-respecting open-source alternative frontend to YouTube.

That seems kinda sad and pathetic for a celebration.

What would you say if they had a big party with a lot of PR/marketing behind it;
"they're wasting all this money to have fun instead of making the product better"?

ripcord@lemmy.world · 11 pts · 2y

Yes, because they just want to shit on stuff.

Dirk@lemmy.ml · -6 pts · 2y (2 replies)

Most of the money does not go into the browser anyways.

sugar_in_your_tea@sh.itjust.works · 1 pts · 2y (1 reply)

It really should...

Dirk@lemmy.ml · 0 pts · 2y

Absolutely. But running after the latest hypetrain bullshit and managers cashing out on corporation income is more important to them.

Till this day the mobile browser absolutely sucks (you don't have a tab bar and you can't even set a homepage! What the hell?!) and the desktop browser gets slower with every update. But at least we now have AI nonsense, not stylable UI by default, and massive loads of telemetry and user tracking only configurable via about:config.

Firefox could be such an awesome browser if it would be modernized, made faster, and made fully configurable (mobile and desktop alike).

I'm not mad at the main devs or the volunteers. They do an awesome job! The state Firefox is in is entirely the fault of the foundation management.

We all knew the enshitification was coming when they put someone from Airbnb in charge. It begins by sucking up to Russia.

ripcord@lemmy.world · 15 pts · 2y

They suspended it temporarily while they figured out what to do, then reinstated already.

elmicha@feddit.de · 5 pts · 2y (2 replies)

It has been reverted.

Used by the Kremlin themselves aww .

Also the Firefox suit look fucking depressed .

ripcord@lemmy.world · 13 pts · 2y (2 replies)

Ah, you're here to shit on something you're out of the loop on

Psych@lemmy.sdf.org · -1 pts · 2y (1 reply)

Wait did they go back on it ?

ripcord@lemmy.world · 6 pts · 2y

Yes. And as they said they only temporarily suspended it while they figured out what their options were.

But people gotta feed their outrage addictions, I get it.
