It's more relevant what we should/can do now than what we should've done years ago, no?
I mean, obviously learn from history and not make the same mistakes, but it's also not necessarily the case that whatever would've been the solution back then, still is today.
Side benefit is that everyone who prefers reading text, can read text, and everyone who wants to hear a robot read it, can have their own robot do that.

But I am surprised by the Cloudflare numbers, which are a lot more reliable, and still have Linux at ~5% worldwide, which is still higher than I thought! And even ~6.5% for the past two months, though I imagine that's a seasonality effect - maybe Linux users in the northern hemisphere are more likely to use their computers at home during summer? :P
Yeah it's very likely that the first thing that came into some Lemmings' minds was completely overlooked in the extensive planning process that precedes projects like this.
From my point of view, a good reason would be that €50 bank notes are annoying :P A lot of the transactions I make are far less than that, and shopkeepers get annoyed at needing a lot of change for me and then not being able to use my €50 note as change for other customers.
Another reason might just be to make it less practical to rob them, i.e. the same amount of money taking up more space? There have been quite a few plofkraken (explosive robberies?) in recent years.
This is nice work @jrahmatzadeh@blogs.gnome.org, and if there's a recommended template for new extensions, it should probably include an AGENTS.MD with this, or at least with a pointer to this.
I don't get what the problem is with writing code that works on multiple GNOME shell versions at once though, rather than individual ports for every version. The former feels like it could make maintenance a lot easier if an extension developer wants to support multiple GNOME versions?
Edit: I see that there's gnome-extensions create --interactive that can create a skeleton extension from a template. That would be the perfect place for this, probably.
