I was prepared to have the contract withdrawn. It has happened twice already this year. I guess I got lucky with this place. And they appreciated that what happened was 9 years ago, and that I was honest and upfront about it.
From everything you've written since I've been here, these people are happy to abdicate responsibility at the drop of a hat. The squeaky wheel gets the grease, and considering everything that's happened ie: you having to live in a hotel, what this moron has done to your stuff and the house, it's a very reasonable request to not only have everything replaced, but to have either a couple of workers, or in the least they could hire a security guard of some description.
I haven't been through what you have, but I know how shitty government beuracracy can treat you when you're young. How your needs can be ignored repeatedly.
They don't get to get away with the incompetence that has led to these circumstances. Fuck all that.
That aside, I have to say, if I was in your shoes, at your age, I wouldn't be handling this half as well as you are. I really mean that.
Good on you for keeping a level head and being systematic in how you're going to resolve this!
Iโm so sorry. What an awful thing to happen. I donโt know why people are like that. Do they feel good to trash someone stuff? Why??? Hopefully police will be helpful. Even if they arenโt, youโll be doing the right thing to report it.
I'm only just catching up on your saga now and holy hell. Your nightmare experience puts most of us sheltered plebs' complaints about shitty neighbours and housemates to shame - I can't believe that deeply fucked cockhead got away with so much cruel, wanton damage and you're left in such a heightened state. I'm so sorry. It's unbelievable that the State is exposing an underage person to levels of danger that would be unacceptable on so many fronts.
You write well and are level-headed Baku - I sincerely hope that helps you escalate this outrageous situation to the highest level and get some appropriate compensation and protection. I hope you never ever have to experience this sort of thing again.
Another suggestion that may help. Smear vaseline or similar all over the outside windowsill (if any). Anyone attempting to get in will not be able to get a grip on it to raise themselves up to that level. They'll have to bring a ladder or whatever which appears to be a level of forward planning that this nincompoop is not capable of. And bringing equipment makes noise. One very old trick is to attach a rattly thing or a small bell to the window at the top where it can't be seen from outside but will make noise if the window is opened unexpectedlike. Enough noise to alert you and get your phone up and recording if someone does break in. Like a shop bell - the old fashioned sort on a spring that tinkles when the door is opened.
Tinyest can now clap to the parts of "if your happy and you know it" which is pretty awesome. He's also waving "Hello" after being able to wave bye bye for a while now. He does both at random though, and occasionally wants a high 5 or clap in between a waves.
Still, progress. Scrubs was right, it really is like having a dog that slowly learns to talk.

A๐นand a ๐ฉ for you.
Is there any avenue for you to replace the high value items via insurance or something like that?
Iโm sorry youโve had to return to all the chaos but in the end as much as it hurts to lose material items, as long as youโre safe, thatโs whatโs most important.
It was four months ago I wished you a happy birthday. Quick maths tells me you'll age out of the system in another eight months. I hope you're able to find your own place with some stability and safety to it.
Was just reminded that at my previous job, the 33f supervisor and the 40m appointment setter called each other "work husband/wife". She has a long-term boyfriend, and he is married to his husband...
I've given myself the ick again. I hate those terms. Like, we don't have to reduce every male/female friendship into "wife/husband", just with the "work" qualifier.
Men and women can be friends at the workplace, and it is entirely appropriate to call each other "friends". My hot take is that "work husband/wife" is gross and inappropriate.
Gross and inappropriate to dismiss male/female platonic friendships, and instead label it "work husband/wife".
Especially when both are already in serious relationships. I think I'm just sick of the lie that men and women can't be friends. Prolly from my own experience of being accused of cheating every time I spoke about work to my ex and mentioned a male colleague, now that I think about it ๐ Why do we have to add romantic undertones to a opposite sex friendship?
The terms are just weird. Like, it's not hard to say "my friend from work", "work friend", "James/Jessie/Meowth from accounting and I had a nice lunch together"
Got some news for you - now it seems that ANY platonic friendship gets sexualised in some people's minds. For me, I think someone that thinks that way is severely limited by their own expectations that ALL relationships MUST be sexual. And we all know that that just isn't the case.
The term doesnโt imply any sexual relationship. It means they are close colleagues and got each others backs at work, and can safely talk shit about the workplace with each other. I donโt think itโs gross but probably there could be a better term, maybe workplace besties?
Edit: I will add, that if itโs a manager/team member or some other connection that is leading to favouritism or unfairness in the team that needs to be addressed. But other than that I really wouldnโt care what people like to call their friendships.
I've been taking the dog outside on a retractable lead. I encourage him to do pee-pees but he's shy even though I know he's a dirty little boy.
So I put some newspaper down in the kitchen and explained nicely that in times of an emergency could he please use the facilities provided and NOT on my fucking carpet. ๐ค
I know how you feel. I felt the exact same way after my last breakup.
It'll get better in time. I know that doesn't help right now, but as you progress in your life, you'll meet other people who will make this guy seem like nothing in comparison.
Iโm so sorry dude. The people in charge of your situation fucked up royally and left you in this position. Theyโve put you in danger through negligence.
Please consider making a formal complaint if it wonโt endanger your accommodation, or reach out to some independent advocates and tell them everything. Also please talk to somewhere like Berry St or Orange Door.
Iโm wondering whether taking out an ivo will create enough political pressure for them to move you. (And be worth the potential risk of aggravating this kid further.) Though you generally need a name and address to serve it which may require cooperation from the organisation - and these jokers seem to be the type to suddenly remember โprivacyโ now that it suits them to. (They will likely go into arse covering mode.)
In your situation it would be called a Personal Safety Order. You are allowed to apply for one by yourself (not sure if your age affects that) or police may agree to apply for one on your behalf. You can apply online and court by WebEx is available sometimes, but if itโs in person there will be court volunteers to support you.
It may be harder to get one as it isnโt a family member or ex/partner but having it puts you in a stronger position to have something done if he comes back. If you wrote down what happened plus the dates, this is where that comes in handy.
Also please document that the lock was broken while you were away - even just a quick dated note, write that it happened in this date range so you remember. And preferably mention it in an email to the organisation for a paper trail that possibly prevents the damage being blamed on you or repairs billed to you. (Arse covering mode often involves blaming the victim for anything they can plus refusing to take responsibility or help.)
Potentially report the burglary attempt and property damage to the police - even if you ring the cops and agree to do the report via email. Send photos of anything you can - reporting the property damage may mean that you wonโt get charged for repairs or held responsible and have them try to kick you out.
Ps. Iโm sorry if this stresses you out worse. Itโs just coming from someone who has dealt with many ferals.
Stay safe dude. Itโs a pain in the butt but I suggest jot down anything that happens along with the date. (Even if itโs only a few words or one line.)
Also it might be good to set up a camera in any way that works for you.
De-toothing complete. Apparently the tooth was a stubborn little bugger, with an extra root and twisted on a weird angle. It didn't really hurt having it taken out, but now I'm back home and the anaesthetic is wearing off it is definitely getting painful. ๐ข
This would be useful information if I did not loathe peas and therefore have no such thing in my house ๐ Fortunately I do have an actual cold pack instead.
I'd be chasing a new macbook from them then. Also it WASNT old and missing screws. It was an M3, top of the line and needs to be replaced like for like!
They were never going to drop a minister into a shit situation, it'd make them look terrible. Here look Minister, a bunch of well behaved and settled kids, the system works, gib money.
I've had a few friends work in resicare, they said that there's basically either kids taken out of bad situations or kids who are the bad situation. They felt it was bullshit that both types got mixed up in the houses.
If you've met her before, mention it if you make contact.
If the poster is canvas backed, you might be able to take it to a picture framing place, and get the tear(s) mended at the back with light canvas or paper tape. A canvas backed map is worth the bother. You might even think about getting the mended map laminated to protect and preserve it. The line will be still be visible from the front but the structural integrity will be nearly as good as new. Basically, they'll flatten the map and then tape it from behind. You could do this yourself on a large tabletop I think - press it flat with a cool iron and then stick it together on the back. Please don't use duct tape - that could ruin it.
Someone with a very low frustration tolerance. And anger management issues. And no respect for other people's belongings. This guy sounds very high risk for returning to the scene of the crime to do more 'I spit on you' antics. It's not so much the damage, I expect, it'll be more his way of expressing contempt for anyone that he feels is not 'respecting' him. Which makes no sense, but I suspect he's not doing too much objective thinking.
That would make me feel so ick. Throw out your toothbrush. Bleach the hell out of the toilet. It feels so violating to have someone in your house. Hopefully you can talk to someone about how to improve security in the house? Will they provide that in the housing youโre in? Like does it have security door (like this mesh ones)? Lockable windows?
I have decided to make a homemade pizza for dinner as a treat. Got a night out booked with some friends next weekend to celebrate.
So tonight it's be hassled by the cat as usual, and video games.
I may also be looking at a new guitar I've been thirsting over the last few months. But we'll see...
Still hasn't quite sunk in. But there's definitely a weight off my shoulders. I almost fell asleep right after the meeting lol
So Cyberpunk 2077 is the game that pushes all of my buttons. As in I think about it when I'm not playing it. I deleted it off my PC while I was unemployed because I didn't want to get sucked in and waste time.
I just installed it, updating now, and then mods will be installed.
Thank you โค๏ธ The meeting this morning where I told her about the police check was nerve wracking. But she said it's ok and she was appreciative that I told her in advance which is nice.
It's only basic: Pita bread base, diced tomato, mozarella, salami, capsicum and olives.
I haven't had anything to eat other than chicken, veggies, and tuna pasta in about 4 months. This is a nice treat lol
Hell yeah gotta love that rush of relief and acceptance and then the permission to keep the good feels rolling with some nice food. Still sounds like a very satisfying pizza indeed ๐บ You absolutely deserve a treat! I hope it's onwards and upwards from here with being secure and not being hampered by the past.
Coped a lecture about how climate change isn't real by an older bloke in front of me at the shops. Retorted that he'll be dead before he see's any real problems from it, which he didn't like.
"Nah, you don't know what you're talking about, the weather changes it always has, they used call it global warming, now they call it climate change, they don't know, you don't know" [sic]
It does my head in when people are loud in shared workspaces, like shut up, people are working here. Thereโs a special circle of hell reserved for the woman who does personal calls on speakerphone in my office.
haha they did that to my department a while a go. Closed our office moved us into an office building in the middle of a floor with all the sales guys on the phone all day. Didnt last 12 hours before a department head was telling us to shut up, and the head of our department went "well, maybe don't close our office and stick us in the middle of everyone else then ya dick!"
Mad respect for the guy.
The countown is on for my de-toothing. About an hour to go. Hopefully it will be fairly straightforward, but those back molars can be a bit stubborn - and last time I had a tooth in poor condition removed it splintered in to lots of pieces and was an absolute mess to get out.
I have given myself permission to sook about it for at least tonight and tomorrow. I may also decide to aquire icecream, although with the current temperatures may just decide to increase my custard intake.
I like the idea of pain relief as a concept, but I have developed an intolerance to codeine. I'm not sure what other options might be available, but I'm honestly a bit nervous about trying anything new in case of side effects - I took panadeine after my last tooth removal and ended up with agonising stomach pains. I think it gave me a bit of painkiller PTSD.
I'm grateful that I'll be able to get one of those awesome sausage rolls for lunch from the bakery with the nice sausage rolls today. I'm also grateful to my parents dog Vegas who is a sweetheart and has been comfortable and happy with the 2 air conditioner repair dudes in the house at the moment (after an initial cautious sniff introduction when they got here)
I'm grateful Mr P has started cooking dinner so that's one thing I don't have to worry about doing. I'm grateful for our new hires being somewhat experienced, makes training a shiteload easier.
Seem to have hit the post-dinner slowdown. Come on you fellow spammers of the echo chamber, what's happening this evening?
I ate 3 tacos because I only made two at work before realising that was a stupid idea, then I had a bowl of leek and tuna pasta. And now I'm chilling out to Boz Scaggs to lift my mood a bit this evening.
I'm also so grateful for my reverse cycle splitty. Found out my cousin in the sticks has had to turn down the central heating thermostat to 16C because their power bill is too high and my poor uncle from the tropics is wearing four layers indoors. That's new builds for you, with the giant house footprints and warm air leaking everywhere...
At high school? I was a fat kid, so was condemned to the outer darkness as far as sport was concerned. Was forced to participate in basketball, hockey and swimming. Successfully avoided tennis, squash and softball/baseball, cricket and anything even remotely resembling gymnastics. As I have no depth perception above the horizon, anything that required me to catch or hit a ball overhead was doomed to failure. Also very small and badly engineered feet, so running sports were off the table too. Hockey was OK - I was the goalie (most of the time) as no one else wanted to do that bit. Had quite a lot of fun whacking people's shins with my stick (named Excalibur). Revenge is sweet. Did OK out of school at ice skating. As my Dad was ex-navy, all of my siblings and me learned to sail small boats and race them in the school holidays. Which was OK, but not really my bag long term. Also got thrown out of ballet classes due to complete lack of talent. But I do love to dance - just not ballet.
The real irony came in my mid thirties, when due to unrelated circumstances, I did a reflex speed test. And tested out at the top 3% of the population. If only they'd offered jet fighter pilot training as a sport at my high school ... I could have been a real star at that.
As things turned out, I ended up as a professional equestrian for over 20 years. The reflexes came in real handy for that. And on the back of a horse I didn't need to use my feet much so that was good too.
None outside of forced PE class. I was not a sporty kid at all. I ditched PE as soon as I could, I think year 10 was the last year it was mandated. Early high school I played tennis but I started to not like it once I had to play in competitions.
It seems now that kids doing a sport all through high school is the norm? My parents never forced me.
Now I play a team sport to make up for my sports-less adolescence.
I didn't play any sport in high school; I hated it (and still not really keen on it either). Maybe a bit of lousy badminton with friends. I did play netball in primary school till my immune system got whacked and I was never the same afterwards
Mostly soccer. Some softball, hockey, and Touch. Useless at most, especially gym. If this is because my Primary school didnโt teach them so I was delayed, or just a general klutz remains debatable.
It's early. I'm waiting for fence builders. What I can tell you is, when getting the quotes, the dude who turned up with thongs on did not get the job.
Lol we got fence quotes a couple of years ago and one of the dudes who turned up was pissed as a newt, reeked of it. Then the neighbour lost his job so we couldn't get it done anyway.
The guy turned up to remove the old fence. It's been laying in the neighbours waist high grass for the last 6 months so there was most likely weeds growing through it.
Also the neighbour sleeps outside like a hobo so he's probably awake now.
What happened to the rain? Seems like it mostly fell while we were all asleep.
I had some Spirited Away-esque dreams where there were all these fantastical characters and a huge restaurant with many inner workings and lowly staff being turned into turtles and retro computers for being slow or seeing the wrong thing. It was kind of heart-breaking, really...
I looooove hard rubbish days. We had one here in Thornbury just recently. My haul this year included a really nice persian carpet approx 2 metres by 1.5 metres. Someone threw it out because they'd just replaced it with 'something that suits the decor'. It's in perfect condition - just a little grubby. No stains, no pet smells. It's going off to the rug washer tomorrow for a thorough tubbing. Cost will be approx $150 for a really nice rug that suits me just fine. You couldn't buy a nice wool persian carpet for that.
I also scarfed some very nice wire trellis that will fit the fence around my back courtyard too. Come springtime I will install this and plant a grape vine on it. My nice italian next door neighbour has given me a potted shoot from his grapevine that his family brought over when they came to Australia - which makes the most amazing grappa so I am anxious to give this a go when the vine is fruiting. Lovely big reddish green grapes that are so so sweeeet.
I miss Hard Rubbish! One booked pickup a year here, and you supposedly need permission of the property manager. Presumably so the landlord can gazzump you.
I take back everything I said about the rain because lo, the moisture hath intensified. Needed to postpone one site visit to tomorrow. Absolutely horrible commute on the way back (even with it being school holidays). I think next Wednesday is a definite WFH day again. It's such a shit route.
Today's been yuck enough that I just want to delete my brain and reset it for tomorrow. I suppose this is why people drink

MSP's in general, from my experience, are usually pretty shitty. There's one in particular, rhymes with "RataFrom" that is by far, the absolute worst MSP I've ever had to deal with. (I hope that's not the one you work for).
haha not sure im familiar with that one. Nah I'm internal now thank f. Havnt done msp work for years now and do NOT miss it. This was the MSP before the last MSP who were supporting my current employers environment back in the day leaving their shit around.
Woke up, very ready for breakfast and the kitchen sink isn't draining. Guess one of the housemates clogged it last night. Woooooooooooooooooo coffee for breakfast
Recently frustrated with one of them. They're usually all good. I've tried to complain about one issue and got brushed off. Might need to be more assertive.

On the topic of Tolkien, this morning I was going through some old books that were still in boxes from moving house last year. Found a copy of The Adventures of Tom Bombadill which I've had for decades, I remember my grandmother used to read it to me when I was a kid in the 70's. Well, it turns out that this little hardback is a first edition print from 1962 (UK release) and some are selling online for $700+, one seller had a copy up for $1100!
No plans to sell it, but I should probably take a bit more care with it :)
The arcade next to Kmart between Bourke & Little Bourke St has a student friendly soup with things in it bar that's VERY popular. Not costly and very good smelling. Haven't eaten there myself but it sure seems to be a popular option.

HL is surprisingly fun to roam around, the castle especially. Spell slinging combat as well is pretty fun but itโs a little challenging at times.
The recent patch introduced some bad crashing bugs on both PS5 and PC though but there are workarounds. you need to turn off raytracing on the PS5 and for the PC version you need to turn off something call HOGs through the windows system settings.

I canโt seem to find a matching yarn for the jumper repair (to be fair the colour, texture and thinness are very specific). I looked to see if there were any embroidery flosses that kind of tone but there were only bundles that didnโt have great matches. So I may either try eBay for a single skein or do a temporary job with doubled thread just to hold the hole together and stop it unraveling larger. This is kind of a favourite jumper.

I'm really fucking sorry for what's happened mate. I really am.
What an absolute piece of fucking shit.
This is also on the people running the house. Speak to your worker about being reimbursed for what's been destroyed.
It's their responsibility to provide a safe place for you and your stuff.
Don't let them off the hook.
And I would be demanding someone stay at the house with you for the next few weeks at minimum. Your safety is their responsibility.
Baku@aussie.zone · 6 pts · 2y
Gibsonisafluffybutt@aussie.zone · 6 pts · 2y
Good on you for standing up for yourself!

Baku@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 2y

Put empty glass bottles around where the window is, that way any intruder will make a noise.
Baku@aussie.zone · 1 pts · 2y
Thornburywitch@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 2y

TinyBreak@aussie.zone · 9 pts · 2y
Fully support this. Its a term that feels like it belongs from an early 2010s buzzfeed list. Gross.

CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone · 5 pts · 2y
I wouldn't say it's gross or inappropriate just weird.
StudChud@aussie.zone · 7 pts · 2y
Thornburywitch@aussie.zone · 9 pts · 2y
Got some news for you - now it seems that ANY platonic friendship gets sexualised in some people's minds. For me, I think someone that thinks that way is severely limited by their own expectations that ALL relationships MUST be sexual. And we all know that that just isn't the case.
LowExperience2368@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 2y
CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone · 4 pts · 2y
Oh I getcha now.
SituationCake@aussie.zone · 4 pts · 2y
The term doesnโt imply any sexual relationship. It means they are close colleagues and got each others backs at work, and can safely talk shit about the workplace with each other. I donโt think itโs gross but probably there could be a better term, maybe workplace besties?
Edit: I will add, that if itโs a manager/team member or some other connection that is leading to favouritism or unfairness in the team that needs to be addressed. But other than that I really wouldnโt care what people like to call their friendships.

I'd be asking for pain relief and if they suggest panadol then sad face ๐
RustyRaven@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 2y
I like the idea of pain relief as a concept, but I have developed an intolerance to codeine. I'm not sure what other options might be available, but I'm honestly a bit nervous about trying anything new in case of side effects - I took panadeine after my last tooth removal and ended up with agonising stomach pains. I think it gave me a bit of painkiller PTSD.

Take the codeine. You may be able to swap it for something on the streets.

Ok gang, let's send this thread over the edge. What sport did you play during high school? What sport did you like, what sport did you hate?
For me I played soccer, table tennis. I hated gymnastics.
Thornburywitch@aussie.zone · 9 pts · 2y
CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 2y
Wow. That's some impressive sports rรฉsumรฉ.
Catfish@aussie.zone · 1 pts · 2y
Nothing like a good revenge hockey stick to the shin. You may keep your horses though shudder

Ice skating.
I made particular efforts to avoid all forms of team sports. I also sucked so badly at swimming I managed to fail a Girl Guide swimming badge.

Mostly tennis, some volleyball due to lack of choice.

just_kitten@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 2y
I didn't play any sport in high school; I hated it (and still not really keen on it either). Maybe a bit of lousy badminton with friends. I did play netball in primary school till my immune system got whacked and I was never the same afterwards
Catfish@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 2y
Mostly soccer. Some softball, hockey, and Touch. Useless at most, especially gym. If this is because my Primary school didnโt teach them so I was delayed, or just a general klutz remains debatable.
Gibsonisafluffybutt@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 2y
I was fat until year 9 term 1 holidays. I grew a lot taller in what seemed like a short time.
Also got fitter magically. Good old testosterone lol
I played hockey and volleyball and did running as well. Was actually a pretty fast runner.
However:
I also played smoking and drinking at lunchtime on the oval with my mates which had detrimental effects on my athletic performance.
These days I do rock climbing and kickboxing (plus the gym). I had a mid 30's crisis and lost a bunch of weight and put on some muscle.
Kinda changed my whole life honestly. Was weird standing out a bit. Wasn't used to it.

Netball as an extracurricular I enjoyed.
Hated volleyball and the beep test ๐

CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone · 5 pts · 2y
๐ oh fuck!

Thornburywitch@aussie.zone · 7 pts · 2y
