Let's run down the list of the shooter's known traits and see how this fits the GOP agenda:
White
Male
Suburban
Privileged upbringing
Gun enthusiast
Registered Republican
YUP! Sure sounds like a CRT-lovin' Democrat operative to me! Can't wait to hear how these fascist psychos try to spin the web of Deep State bullshit into this one.
NEWSFLASH: There's only one side of this political climate that has been advocating violence from Day 1, dipshits, and it sure as fuck isn't coming from the Democrats.
brain washing half the country with your sick violent rhetoric.â
Greene in 2021 appeared in a campaign video holding a 50-caliber rifle and promising to âblow away the Democratsâ socialist agenda.â She then fired the rifle at a Toyota Prius with a âsocialismâ sign on its side. Footage showed the vehicle exploding with the words, âTarget destroyedâ displayed on screen. The video promoted a giveaway of the rifle âfor Americans only.â
When was the last time a Democrat appeared in a political ad with a firearm? More of the rightâs projection and gaslighting.
I donât see political ads - do the ones Bidenâs running say things like âTrump must be stopped at all costs?â I just worry that the dems will take the bait and turn down their messaging while the right keep the flames burning.
To Trump, the Paul Pelosi assault was the cause for yet another one-off joke, which should have landed with a chorus of boos at the California GOP convention. Nope. A laugh riot.
It's actually kinda funny watching them flail around blaming nothing and everything because one of their own tried to shoot Trump. They were NOT prepared to deal with this situation at all.
No no no. Voter party affiliation on voter registration doesn't mean anything on its own. People change their registered parties all the time to vote in the other party's primaries and such. Also sometimes people forget to switch back.
For kids, their party affiliation is going to be whatever their parents are (lest they be disowned by their family). For kids, their political views can and do change radically from 18 to 25.
Party affiliation on voter registration means nothing in the case of the shooter.
Fine, young adult, whatever. My point still stands. Young new voters are most likely to be registered with the same party affiliation as their parents. It doesn't mean the shooter is actually a republican.
If nothing gets released (like very little was released about the mini-arsenal, bump-stock Las Vegas mass shooter) heâs probably right wing. If thereâs anything leftist about it you can bet theyâll dig for every possible way to exploit it.
We may never be able to put him on so narrow a box, but he was registered, a gun nut, and he didn't donate to Dems - that was just someone with the same name in the same state.
That's not confirmation, but thus far there isn't any reason to believe otherwise.
But also he was 20. It's likely he didn't have a strong personal affiliation with any political party.
Smith shared an American history class with Crooks, and remembered a mock debate where their teacher made students stand on one side of the classroom or another to signal their allegiance. âThe majority of the class were on the liberal side, but Tom, no matter what, always stood his ground on the conservative side,â Smith said. âThatâs still the picture I have of him. Just standing alone on one side while the rest of the class was on the other.â
This was years ago. Kids change really quickly as they grow up. Ask me how I know. I used to be a kid in high school who was spouting my parents' bullshit conservative christian views. After high school I started thinking for myself and left all that toxic garbage behind.
I'll use that counterargument the next time someone brings up how he donated $15 to pacblue when he was 15 to convince me he's a crazy left wing antifa whackjob or similar. Edit: Apparently that donation has been debunked anyhow. So on the balance of available evidence...
As an aside, I've always found it hilarious when a Faux News host says 'the media', as if they're not one of the biggest media outlets in the world. It's an amazing disassociation and it seems to land somehow. The television screen tells you "the media doesn't want you to know the truth!", o fanged poet.
Donât you love it when the conservatives blame the Dems for what the conservatives are doing themselves? Itâs like narcissismâs victim-blaming 101: shifting accountability, gaslighting, and projection.
Pretty sure that's literally one of Eco's 14 characteristics of fascism. Publicly accusing the opposition of doing the exact (awful) thing they're doing.
If I'm not mistaken, it was a US Libertarian who attempted the assassination. It's analytically pointless to group them in with the Republicans, even if they're both horrible. Infighting is serious business. [redacted: see my reply]
But yes, they're still going to blame the Dems anyway lol.
I'm going to redact my claim until I find evidence, because I may have just misinterpreted a flag they had up. Outlets are reporting the were a registered Republican.
Donât you love it when the conservatives blame the Dems for what the conservatives are doing themselves?
And then the Dems agree that Something Must Be Done, so you get the next iteration of the Mulford Act and a SWAT Team kicking down the door of the Socialist Rifle Association.
Put your hand in the bowl. Grab as much shit covered spaghetti as you can. Now throw it at the wall.
Repeat this on multiple stations a day 24/7 and it won't matter how ludicrous it sounds, it'll stick. You'll be covered in it. It'll be fuckin everywhere.
saying we are too divided while casting blame is entirely self consistent, if one's actual implied position is "we think everything bad is your side's fault, we want it to stop existing, and then there wouldnt be a division anymore".
Well of course they are. Anybody with half a brand new they were going to do that the second that the news came out about the assassination. I sure did.
You mean rhetoric? (Sorry if I'm out of the loop and this is an intentional misspelling. I'm even more sorry if this is actually spelled correctly somehow!)
Not long after the attempt to assassinate former president Donald Trump, Republicans began to blame the Democrats; the media; diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts; and critical race theory as responsible for the shooting, even though law enforcement thus far has not shared information about the shooterâs motivations.
Twenty-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks, a registered Republican who once gave $15 to a progressive anti-Trump political action committee, opened fire at a Trump rally in Pennsylvania on Saturday.
âThe central premise of the Biden campaign is that President Donald Trump is an authoritarian fascist who must be stopped at all costs,â the Ohio senator wrote on X, formerly Twitter.
Another GOP politician on Trumpâs shortlist for VP, Sen. Tim Scott, on Saturday baselessly claimed that the âradical leftâ and the media âaided and abettedâ in the shooting.
âThis was an assassination attempt aided and abetted by the radical Left and corporate media incessantly calling Trump a threat to democracy, fascists, or worse,â Scott wrote on X.
Johnson wrote on X that the House will âconduct a full investigation of the tragic events today,â including seeking testimony from Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle âand other appropriate officials from [the Department of Homeland Security] and the FBI.â
The original article contains 844 words, the summary contains 202 words. Saved 76%. I'm a bot and I'm open source!
Yea it totally wasn't Republicans who have alluded to killing their opposition on multiple occasions. Totally not their fault that people have been more polarized, especially maga chuds, into committing violence.
Democrats in Hollywood, DC and mainstream media has made the claims that Trump will destroy democracy. He will be a dictator. He's a fascist. He's going to kill anyone and everyone who opposes him... the left wholeheartedly created this environment. I'm not even surprised. Just look at the Lemmy posts about Trump. It's a no brainer.
You don't get ride in on your high horse. This is the sentiment around Trump because of Trump. You don't get to run your campaign like half the country is the enemy and be surprised when the political temperature rises.
Pretty sure mental health is more of a concern. Gun control doesn't deter violent criminals. And especially now? In this environment? Good luck with that. I sure as fk wouldn't listen to the government if it told me that my tool for self defense is now illegal. They can eat cow dung.
So you somehow seem to be very willing to shoot people at the same time that you're trying to blame other people for people getting shot. Enjoy your cognitive dissonance.
Trump openly said he'd be a dictator and talked about locking up his political opponents, it's not like anyone is putting words in his mouth. He IS a fascist piece of shit, and I don't understand how an assassination attempt now makes him any less of a fascist piece of shit.
And which of those things is untrue? The Republicans have openly said that they don't want a democracy (Also, we already don't really have one.). Trump has tried to stay in power beyond his term. He is a fascist. He probably won't kill anyone who opposes him but only because he won't live long enough (he's old) to eliminate the government red tape to do it.
Democrats in Hollywood, DC and mainstream media has made the claims that Trump will destroy democracy.
Trump has also been making this claim, explicitly calling for State Secretaries to tamper with election results and state legislators to send up faithless EC delegates.
He will be a dictator. Heâs a fascist. Heâs going to kill anyone and everyone who opposes himâŠ
My man has compared himself to Mussolini and called for the arrest/killing of political dissidents on a regular basis.
Just look at the Lemmy posts about Trump.
Are you suggesting that the guy who shot Trump was reading too many posts on a Reddit knock-off, rather than spending all his time down the YouTube gun nut rabbit hole?
While there's some element of truth to what you've said- the DNC is using the "End of Democracy" meme as one of their primary themes in their campaign messaging- I don't think that had anything to do with this shooting.
Statistically speaking the vast majority of domestic terrorism comes from far-right extremists. We don't know the motivations behind the shooter at this point in time, but the consensus seems to be so far that he was conservative.

a) wanted to kill Trump to further polarize the political tension in an accelerationist sense (sort of like how far-right organizations were shooting both protestors & police during Euromaidan. Just to increase the outrage, the violence, etc).
Basically an attempt to weaken the regime
Or
b) he became a white supremacist and those tend to hate Trump. Go on stormfront forums and see what they say about Trump. They think he's a jewlover, fake messiah, etc. They hate Jews, Trump loves jews. Therefore, Trump is a potential target.
Or
c) was just nutty plain and simple. Ie killing Trump would unite him with some cartoon character from Nickelodean in the afterlife.
All of those are vastly more likely than someone being radicalized by DNC messaging, I believe.
