Very hard counselling session today, still glad we're going but it was very difficult. We're both giving each other some space in the house, and I've been listening to Radiohead all afternoon ...sad and confused relationships are hard face
The Olympics are the one time countries from all over the world come together in the name of friendship. Sure it's an ideal, the world can be an awful place, but we need ideals to aspire to.
For me, I love having something to stick on in the background, to occasionally watch. The kids love the idea of the best of the best smashing it out too.
Have you ever been in an office and you've scrunched up a piece of paper, aimed at the bin, got it in and others in the room gave a little cheer "shot wscholermann!"?
Well times that by 100. These athletes are the best of the best, on the world stage competing for a medal. Why wouldn't you want to cheer these guys on?
For me itโs something that I love watching and have taken an interest in. I listen to sports related stuff and it gives me something to do and enjoy.
I support a team and feel passionate about it to the degree that I hate seeing my team pounded and lose that I turn off the tv or switch channels.
Iโm not sporty by any means but in a unique sort of thing it allows me to connect with people at work and have chats to people about it if they follow the same sport that wouldnโt otherwise allow me to because my other interests are something that are hard to talk about to others (gaming).
I donโt have any interest in everyday sports. I donโt watch it and donโt play it. (And I donโt gamble, which I think is a big attractor for some people being very into sports). But I enjoy the olympics to see some of the exotic sports like gymnastics and javelin and diving. I donโt really care who wins. And the olympics has a different atmosphere, it seems more pure or something? (I know itโs full of cheats, I mean itโs not for profit)
Morning all.
Friend I haven't seen since - geez, since before Mum died - is coming down for a catch-up and to see the new place (and meet the cats). House unit is a bit messy, so I'm trying to motivate myself to get out of bed and start cleaning. A difficult task when Sammi's snuggled into my side.
Some days a surface level clean wonโt do and today was one of days. Love the feeling of a freshly cleaned house, but none of the steps to achieve it.
Rewarding myself with a cheesy pasta bake and beer.
Went to Crown Gold Class tonight to watch Deadpool & Wolverine.
Jfc, the food there has always been overpriced "shitty cinema food", but now it's absolutely revolting. I had to spit out my first and only bite of the cheese burger, and my partner couldn't eat her margarita pizza as it was more salty than the heavily salted popcorn. Also why did they take nachos off the menu, something it would take a buffoon to fuck up?
Gold class is well worth the money if you've never been. As there are so few seats in the room and it being more expensive, it weeds out people that may disrupt your viewing experience. The seats are very comfy too. It's like having a real home cinema screen. But it's easy to get carried away and spend money though with a "press this button on your table for food or drinks" being available on demand.
But yeah, the people staffing at the Crown one are polite stereotypical minimum wage idgaf people, which is probably the same experience I assume at the Hoyts you've been to.
So to original replier: if you're short on cash just don't be a knob and no one will care. Maybe buy a drink / soda!?
Edit: typo
Edit 2: I've been there in gold class when people have brought in takeaway food before. No shits given.
You know in all my years of living here I've never seen that KFC but a quick Google says it exists and is open until 5am.
I've probably never seen it because of the golden rule of "never eat at Crown". I made an exception for the cinema and that was definitely the last time.
If you're gagging for chicken mate, it's better to jump on the 86 for a few stops and hit The Birmy for a parma. Way better value for money, and I bet you can't finish it all without being overfull.
more boring long tales of adventures in the domestic arts
Some more steps in restoring a pair of antique chairs. Here I have started to strip the old chair seat off, , exposing the springs. I took all of it off, the cover and padding, took out all the tacks, then removed the base and springs. Then I reversed it. Put a new base liner on then sewed the springs back on, then wove new supporting webbing and stapled it on . Put the original kapok padding back on, then a new padding liner, then the tapestry cover. Lastly I will put on a strong fabric liner over the webbing and springs. Nearly done!
When my neighbours moved in they rekeyed the whole house. Screen doors, sliding doors, solid doors, window locks... everything. They now have 1 key for their entire house. I think it's a great idea, but I didn't ask how much it cost.
I looked up the prices recently - it depends on how many locks you have, but a whole house is a few hundred dollars. From memory it was a call out fee and $70 per lock.
That's it, tonight is pizza night... No energy for much else... couldn't get myself out of bed/couch let alone the house. Had a bit of a think through finances today, and it's been sobering to look at the budget I need to set so I can go down to 4 days a week while also reaching savings goals. But I think I can allow myself a pizza tonight, at least.
So hard to wrap my head around. Meanwhile in Singapore, every coffee related drink is an average of $10. Even in SGD, that is $8, which is wild. But even Melbourne coffee is pushing up over $6. (I guess when it comes to commercial rent I can understand why.)
I sometimes wonder when Iโll one day just go, nope. I think itโs because Iโm not a big spender in other areas that I kind of justify the cost.
But pizzaโฆ I love it, but rarely eat it anymore because even consistency is an issue. The fancy pants pizza is nice, but Iโm still always hungry.
Peruvian restaurant has been tried (excellent) and friend has decided to head straight to Brunswick to hopefully avoid the worst of the traffic.
Now snuggling with Sammi while Zooki bops around on the newly vacuumed floor.
Carls Jr Review: Don't worry about it. It is similar to HJs, worse, but similar. I don't mind having gone, but I'm unlikely to go again. Oh and they stooged me with a half full large chips.
Took the kids to the Tram Museum today. It was a big hit, they just liked climbing up and down the trams. I liked it as someone who didn't grow up in Melbourne I got to learn a bit more about the history of the trams and the tram network.
I also learnt in a video that Melbourne has the largest tram network in the world at 250km of tramline. Whilst it's good to have that title, it doesn't sound like much. We could certainly do more to up those numbers.
It's on the list of places to visit. The boys always have to stop what they're doing and point to the sky when they hear a plane.
Morrabbin is only a slightly longer drive from our place than Hawthorn thanks to the highways. I saw another place that is part of the Melbourne Open House weekend so we could easily make a day of going there
Going to see Arj Barker tonight. Surprised at the choice of venue for an international comedy superstar - Moorabbin Arts Centre - but looking forward to it :)
Went to Lucha Fantastica again today, after going to Raphs Deli for brunch. It's becoming a tradition for us. Elder and I especially love the theatrics of it. Mr P loves the margaritas they serve. They're $20ish but they free pour the tequila and are quite strong! Tastes like well more than a couple of shots in there for sure. Am now on a binge of watching 1960s/70s luchador movies, such B grade quality but heaps of fun.
PSA: For those that remember Sizzler, do you remember the cheese toast? I have only ever been to sizzler once many many years ago and barely remember it but I remember the cheese toast. Well apparently Coffee Club is doing a temporary revival of the famous cheese toast. Have not tried it yet but I will definitely go try it.
Temu shoe report: one pair of boots was great, one pair of shoes was squashed in transit and had a visible crease line across the toe of one shoe. I have now received a refund for the damaged pair, which they did not require me to send back. So now I have to decide if I want to give it straight to the op shop or keep it in the cupboard for a couple of years first because I "might decide to wear them one day".
