I love my cat so much. I wish he could understand me just enough to hear me say it.

bacon@aussie.zone · 9 pts · 1y

he absolutely does

StudChud@aussie.zone · 8 pts · 1y

Cats can understand human speech, similarly to dogs. They know ๐Ÿ’œ

Seagoon_@aussie.zone · 6 pts · 1y

My boyz wiggle their tails when I say their respective names. They know. ๐Ÿ˜บ๐Ÿ˜บ

melbaboutown@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 1y

I say I love you to Melbcat or kiss her little head and she purrs at either, so they know. Also the cuddling lets them know.

Just back from dinner with the guy who organises the local Meetup dining group.
I'd dropped into the conversation when he invited me to a cafe that I wasn't looking for a relationship right now, just to lay it on the table, then after some messaging that was pushing the boundaries and some blatantly flirtatious behaviour in front of others I had to have a stern talk of the You're Making Me Uncomfortable Back Off variety.
So he walked me home, came in briefly to meet the cats and then I drove him home making it plain that I was just going to drop him home and run.
So what does he do? Ask me to stay the night!
Firstly NO, secondly I've never left the cats alone overnight and I'm not going to start now, thirdly I Told You I'm Not Interested Several Times Jesus Christ. ๐Ÿคฆ๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธ I think he's more of a clueless scungie type - I know the breed from Uni God knows - but seriously, which part of I Am Not Interested does this guy not understand?

CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone · 8 pts · 1y

Hun. Not after a relationship. Just a root. Urrrt no. Kick.

StudChud@aussie.zone · 8 pts · 1y (1 reply)

He understands, he just doesn't want to accept it. It's not about swaying you it's about making you so uncomfortable that you'll say yes just to get it "over with".

He doesn't care about your feelings or consent. And do not let him into your house again.

melbaboutown@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 1y

This.

It is such a good idea to have your own transport arranged to get home

just_kitten@aussie.zone · 7 pts · 1y

What is up with men who can't take a hint? Unfortunately not uncommon with some meetup groups :(

tone212_@aussie.zone · 7 pts · 1y (2 replies)

No means yes or possibly yes to some people, no matter how clear you are.

StudChud@aussie.zone · 6 pts · 1y (1 reply)

No is yes because some men get off on non-consent as well. Ugh UGH

Seagoon_@aussie.zone · 4 pts · 1y

THIS.

be so careful

melbaboutown@aussie.zone · 6 pts · 1y

Yikes.

This guy was being wilfully oblivious, ignoring all boundaries and just trying to take advantage โ›ณ๏ธ

Gibsonhasafluffybutt@aussie.zone · 6 pts · 1y

He thought you'd be swayed by his confidence.

Seagoon_@aussie.zone · 5 pts · 1y (2 replies)

Maybe next time don't ask boundary challenged guys in to meet the cats

StudChud@aussie.zone · 5 pts · 1y (1 reply)

Ugh I have no idea why you are downvoted - I agree wholeheartedly with this.

Do not allow men into your home who have already ignored your consent. Not victim blaming, but people perceived as women must be careful in today's world what with the utter disrespect and violence towards AFABs/women/femmes.

Seagoon_@aussie.zone · 4 pts · 1y

Long day... cranky... not a drop of moisture all day, but I just managed to miss the rain and got to come home to silky kitty and a bit of silliness (=much-needed energy expenditure) with the feather toy. Thank god I have food in the fridge... rest my tired soul with the sound of rain and a nourishing meal. I'm spent.

You should have seen everyone's face. The mood in the meeting plummeted instantly.

I'm expecting some resignations in the next few weeks.

tombruzzo@aussie.zone · 7 pts · 1y (4 replies)

That's barely covers inflation these days. It just make sure you're taking home the same realised income as the year before

Gibsonhasafluffybutt@aussie.zone · 5 pts · 1y

I'm here for 12 months to up skill. If I get a real promotion and it's equivalent pay rise, cool. If not, other plans will come into play.

just_kitten@aussie.zone · 5 pts · 1y (2 replies)

The only way to get a pay rise these days is jump ship, it seems. Unfortunately

Gibsonhasafluffybutt@aussie.zone · 4 pts · 1y

100%. That's worked for me whilst I've been in corporate.

tombruzzo@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 1y

That's how it has become these days. Companies don't invest in their people like they used to, so you have to become the master of your own career

tone212_@aussie.zone · 6 pts · 1y

Wow! And I used to get upset about my 5% yearly raise at my last job.

Tonight it's singing practice. I cancelled my plans so I could have the evening to myself to get my voice back to a usable state.

I miss performing so much. I just love the vulnerability that you feel when you're giving a part of yourself to strangers for a short while. Putting yourself out there.

Music had been such an important part of my life. Every step of the way music has kept me going when I felt I didn't want to. I could always rely on making music for catharsis.

And I think that's what makes it such an important part of my life. I feel like everything is bottled up unless I'm playing regularly.

Fed the kitty this morning and we went back to bed, cuddling sweetlyโ€ฆ she stretched her arm, dropped it and punctured a single secretly sharp claw into my eyelid like a fishhook.

After a delay of refusing to get up it was washed with antibacterial hand soap and dabbed with Betadine so fingers crossed. I have a spare box of antibiotics ready to go.

But yeah, that was literally half a centimetre from my actual eye.

useless_modern_god@aussie.zone · 6 pts · 1y (1 reply)

That makes me feel sick because I canโ€™t have anything go near my eye ( like I canโ€™t wear contacts because I freak out about it )

My painful cat encounter story is, I was trying to save someoneโ€™s cat in a tree so I climbed way up and grabbed it.

It got scared and wriggled and thrashed around so much that it fellโ€ฆalmost. It managed to hook a single claw into my forearm and was just hanging thereโ€ฆstretching my skin.

I could only freak out and scream and shake it off. Of course it landed on its feet and just sauntered away.

melbaboutown@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 1y

Itโ€™s ok, it was just the top eyelid near my eyelashes. Nothing actually went in my eye.

Taleya@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 1y (3 replies)

Keep an eye on that shit. Uh. Pun unintended

melbaboutown@aussie.zone · 1 pts · 1y (2 replies)

I clip her claws but she always secretly sharpens just a single one so I donโ€™t notice. Itโ€™s her stiletto.

Wondering about those colourful nail caps but they seem like theyโ€™d cause distress

Edit: And yes, Iโ€™m watching it because litterbox paws and will start the box of antibiotics thatโ€™s on hand if anything changes. It would be a nasty spot for an infection

Speaking to my therapist last night. We were talking about my anxious mind craving distractions and the amount of screen time I'm racking up on my phone. He was talking about just sitting, no noise or anything and just taking in whats going on around us. I've never been so proud of myself cause I stopped short of shouting "RAWDOGING! Gen Z call it rawdogging when you just sit on a flight and do nothing!"

Fuck i'm weird ey.

Reddit only seems to exacerbate my anxieties. Too much bad news coming from the world, condensed into a toxic cesspool of misogyny, racism, and arguing in bad faith.

I prefer YouTube, but avoid the comments.

And yeah apparently some people use "rawdogging" to describe going without their phone/music/whatever when travelling or doing something - which is just.... No.

Rawdogging is a gross term to use colloquially in those situations. But language is language and youth will create slang as they always have done since language became something utilised by humans for communication.

mysticgreg@aussie.zone · 4 pts · 1y

This is something I've been working on for about 18 months now, and it definitely helps.

When I get home from work my phone goes in a different room and I don't touch it at all. No laptop or iPad either. I usually read once our 5 year old is in bed and the dishes and chores are done and I get the chance to sit down.

I flew to North Qld and back a few weeks ago, no devices or screens.

My 'online' time is during breaks/lunch at work and that's it. I deleted Instagram a couple of years ago and haven't had Facebook since 2008.

I drive to work and back with NOTHING playing, no podcasts or music or anything, 3-4 hours of driving per day.

Being 'in the moment rather' than being attached to a screen or 'content' has really helped. Although I've found it DOES make me irrationally angry when I walk around (or even am at other family member's houses) and everyone is glued to their screens. Not to mention the at least 1 person a month I see watching YouTube while driving on the freeway...

Bottom_racer@aussie.zone · 11 pts · 1y (1 reply)

Well that's a first. Found a stick insect on my subwoofer. I don't think I've actually seen one before in the wild:

It has been put back outside on a tree. But glad to see there's another real junglist saying wicked.

This most definitely calls for a rave choon:

Considering it was on the subby... Suicide bassline!

I am the great cornholio! I need tp for my bunghole.

And it isn't just you, people are just that much more inconsiderate. I blame lockdowns, but also the general state of the world right now - wars, rescinding rights, needless death, no ability to buy a house, pollies are landlords and two faced scum, far right bullshit, climate change... I can understand people reacting with general disrespect when it doesn't feel like this world will last, and we suffer.

But I also believe in times like these, we have MORE of a duty to be kind to one other, to show compassion and grace. And that is severely lacking within the general population. Their attitudes compound upon the state of the world and just hurt us even more than we already are.

melbaboutown@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 1y (1 reply)

It would be nice to be kindโ€ฆ but Iโ€™ve found people are just getting more predatory and boundary stomping to the point Iโ€™m forced to be hostile to protect myself. :(

Absolutely, and it's painful to do because it goes against our personalities and our very nature as human beings. Empathy and compassion is sacrificed for survival.

I have hope kindness and love will prevail, but our suffering in the meantime is wearing on me.

melbaboutown@aussie.zone · 7 pts · 1y

Yeah Iโ€™ll order the motion activated light and see what I can do. Then if that doesnโ€™t work out things are about to get stinky. I also have some creative plans for bike locks.

Ultimately though Iโ€™d love to just move somewhere less eventful and have a proper little garden, catio, maybe a shed to tinker. Maybe a fire pit. In my dreams. Maybe if I win the lottery

Feeling awfully impatient at work today. Thereโ€™s someone in the office that just manages to bring the whole place down and loads of us are on edge. At least thereโ€™s a yum lunch to look forward to, and then end of the day to look forward to after that!

Duenan@aussie.zone · 6 pts · 1y (3 replies)

So as I was out and about today I was inside a sit in cafe place.

I wondered if I should have maybe bought something from inside the counter.

Took a photo so if I decide to go there again Iโ€™ll know whatโ€™s there and the price.

Force_majeure123@aussie.zone · 4 pts · 1y (1 reply)

1 prosciutto panini please

Duenan@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 1y

I would have chosen that one too or the mortadella focaccia.

The focaccia actually looked massive when I was there.

tombruzzo@aussie.zone · 4 pts · 1y

That's a good selection. Chicken schnitzel or meatballs are always a safe bet. I'd try the meatballs as it's not as common an option

Iโ€™m definitely going to have to buy a few more of them either this weekend or next week.

First day of the free food market in its new location. I don't think Eastland security were impressed by the unruly mob, hopefully they get crowd control sorted out and don't get kicked out. The old location was closer to home, but being under cover is a massive advantage.

My main wish for today was tomatoes, and I got three of those so I'm happy. Also lots of bananas, I'm not sure what I'm going to do with all of those.
