Absolutely. The only good things from when I went to Uni was doing the aboriginal languages, and first nations culture. I have a lot of sources I saved to whip out for deniers haha.
There's a harrowing recount of a massacre, written by a modern woman as a retort to another bloke who denies the genocides (they're both academics), and I like to pull that one out for the shock value. I have it available but it's nsfw
I once saw an interview on ABC of an old farmer from Gippsland , this was over 30 years ago, where he talks about giving local first nation families sacks of poisoned flour. He talked of finding the dead families, children included. He had no sense of shame or guilt. So the interview is about 40 years old now and the guy was about 80 talking about when he was in his 20s and 30s, so this was maybe 100 years ago, that's still 20th century.
This is what it was like, individuals like this evil bastard committing murder.
I don't know if there was any organisation by or talk among farmers to commit systematic genocide.
I have heard of two instances from the mouths of the perps. The Gippsland one and Northern Territory.
It was farmers, always graziers.
They would run families away from natural watering holes too, ( who would then of course die of thirst or hunger. ) There is a chapter on that in "We of the Never Never".
I haven't done any in a while. Just spent too much time sick in bed this year, at least 4 months ๐, and the rest of the year was doing big house cleaning and sorting
That sounds really messed up. How on earth would this be managed if you were overseas?! And with branches being few and far between this really sucks. After the commbank outage recently I'm starting to think it might be beneficial to have accounts with multiple banks as a backup.

Saturday morning insight into the weirdness that is my brain:
Dream recollection #1: being unable to breathe (scary, I have a feeling of being somewhat aware that I was dreaming but couldnโt quite wake myself up).
Dream recollection #2: randomly eating a piece of 5 day old bread.
Because your brain now remembers it needs to breath and not to eat 5 day old bread! Remember to thank your sleep paralysis demon for the good advice ๐
It's self care. It's okay to have leisure time, in fact it's normal and human and healthy. Do your best to quell those self sabotaging thoughts and enjoy! You're allowed to enjoy things guilt-free, but if you require permission then it is granted ๐
I think youโve just got to come to terms with that itโs not a waste of time and just gradually change your viewpoint on things.
Youโre having some recreational time to yourself, would you feel any different if you read a book, listened to a podcast, movie or watched tv or did something socially?
I often feel like I'm "not allowed" to do nothing, especially when there is housework or similar I "should" be doing. I feel enormous guilt at the "wasted time," even though it's actually really important. My parents especially would have frowned at the periodic inactivity, but they aren't living my life.
drainage. Our land slopes, the previous owners put in a brick retaining wall for a level garden bed. It had zero drainage, so was essentially a bathtub. The pipe is socked 65mm AGI, the arms slope down to the centre line, except the last one that the centre slopes into, and then goes out a drilled hole that will hook into further drainage. Finish gravelling over the pipe, fold the geotextile over like a fat sausage, kick the dirt back and then later putting in decorative dividers that will mimic what used to be a pile of concrete and brick bed dividers I painstakingly dug out.
::: spoiler Title
The brain is a ruminant,
Though only when the sun sets,
Reclaim the ruins and the remnants,
The river mouth regurgitates
Riddles from the red-raw years,
Rhymes to ride the tide of tears,
Resolute in the face of fears.
Re-masticate the reveries,
Feel them flow forth freely
Between the gaps and synapse.
A lapse of judgement partly
Resides within the wraps,
The wrinkles, and the folds
Of the grey matter maps;
Memories unresolved, retold.

I think I lucked out either environmentally or genetically. I always feel so awkward when allergies pop up in convos.
The old man (who's a sub specialist doc) says "that's because i didn't care when you were crawling through the garden or dog shit as a kid". I mean thanks but maybe it worked.
Me too. I don't fully understand the grief people go through over allergies, as I don't have any myself. I too credit my lax (by current standards) parents who turned us kids out of doors a lot so long as we stayed in a pack. Also many childhood pets, cleaning with soap and water only (no anti-bacterial shit). And home cooking by Mum, a survivor of the Great Depression and rabidly anti-waste of good food. Tea yes, but no coffee or lolly water for us kids either.
In an exciting start to the morning I have done some more updates to my budget spreadsheet. I have now mastered the use of TRUNC, ROUNDUP and EVEN functions. Hopefully my pay calculations will now match my actual payslips without rounding errors.
Ended up making a shit tonne of food, in addition to the dal and the slow cooked jackfruit, made a massive broccoli and pea and cashew curry that is bloody delicious if I say so myself. Not much progress with the jars and haven't started pantry cull yet. But I don't mind because I have momentum and a plan... and had a few nice family chats today so that was worth it.
Downside is I've picked up a nasty headache out of nowhere this arvo. I'm going to dish out this food, chuck everything in the dishwasher (I will fucking miss this dishwasher), finish the leftovers and call it a day. Gotta love winding down to Fresh Produce on PBS
Thanks. Had some Nurofen earlier which did nothing. I am gonna have some again, plus extra water as I think I'm dehydrated. I suspect it'll be better once I wake up. Feels like it was a reaction to something. So tired! I'm going to take it easy when I get back tomorrow.
Your food sounds awesome! Sometimes I get a mid afternoon headache from standing at a prep bench all day. It's something to do with the angle of your neck. I hope you feel better soon!
Oh, I hadn't thought about neck angle at all! That's something to keep in mind. I'm really glad to read that you're feeling better too despite the Dr being unhelpful the other day. Here's to a restful and healing night for us both.
I think it is supposed to be pikelets, so that's really on me. I presume picklets are some sort of pickle pikelet hybrid. Maybe a version of okinomyaki, which would be pretty awesome. Just not with cream and maple syrup ๐คฃ
Pickle pikelets is doable, as there are recipies for gherkin filled cheese scones. They are very yum. Particularly with bacon or peanut butter on them.
It said there was stock online. I've been checking stock levels and it wouldn't let me buy it until now because it was out of stock. Something must have changed on the backend of their website
What tends to happen, especially if itโs Kmart or big w is that theyโll say they have stock but as people buy them the stock levels donโt update.
Itโs not until they go and allocate your items in person that they discover they have no stock left.
Iโm pretty sure their systems arenโt live updated regularly enough.
Edit: also because theyโre slow with click and collect.
I know I'll probably get a refund but I'd like to think someone at dispatch for Kmart is now going on a Jingle All The Way style quest to find me a copy of this book

Yeah I'm definitely finding it hard to relax. There's always this nagging in the back of my mind "you're wasting time, do something more productive".
It sucks and I don't know how to stop.
StudChud@aussie.zone · 6 pts · 1y
It's self care. It's okay to have leisure time, in fact it's normal and human and healthy. Do your best to quell those self sabotaging thoughts and enjoy! You're allowed to enjoy things guilt-free, but if you require permission then it is granted ๐

I think youโve just got to come to terms with that itโs not a waste of time and just gradually change your viewpoint on things.
Youโre having some recreational time to yourself, would you feel any different if you read a book, listened to a podcast, movie or watched tv or did something socially?
Gibsonhasafluffybutt@aussie.zone · 4 pts · 1y
I think this is left over from when I wasn't working. It's left an imprint on both my space and my state of mind.
Going to have dinner and try to settle into some gaming :)

I often feel like I'm "not allowed" to do nothing, especially when there is housework or similar I "should" be doing. I feel enormous guilt at the "wasted time," even though it's actually really important. My parents especially would have frowned at the periodic inactivity, but they aren't living my life.

So what actually is going on here? What's the pipe?
Taleya@aussie.zone · 1 pts · 1y

Re-masticate the reveries,

TheWitchofThornbury@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 1y

Why did you let me buy it if there's no stock, Kmart?
Seagoon_@aussie.zone · 4 pts · 1y
It's sold out nearly every where. Choose a store near where you live that has stock and do a click and collect
tombruzzo@aussie.zone · 6 pts · 1y
It said there was stock online. I've been checking stock levels and it wouldn't let me buy it until now because it was out of stock. Something must have changed on the backend of their website
Duenan@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 1y
What tends to happen, especially if itโs Kmart or big w is that theyโll say they have stock but as people buy them the stock levels donโt update.
Itโs not until they go and allocate your items in person that they discover they have no stock left.
Iโm pretty sure their systems arenโt live updated regularly enough.
Edit: also because theyโre slow with click and collect.
