Can we all just bask in the lovely warm feeling that hanson has zero legal recourse now if you refer to her loudly and publicly as a racist

There really should be more politicians of a working class background representing the interests of ordinary peopleโ€ฆ instead we get that. :(

Also itโ€™s a bit rich for an Aussie to tell anyone to go back where they came fromโ€ฆ

Also itโ€™s a bit rich for an Aussie to tell anyone to go back where they came fromโ€ฆ

It's because those Aussies don't see First Nations as actual real people with rights lol

melbaboutown@aussie.zone · 6 pts · 1y (4 replies)

Yeah, Terra Nullius and all that. Itโ€™s fucked.

StudChud@aussie.zone · 7 pts · 1y (3 replies)

Absolutely. The only good things from when I went to Uni was doing the aboriginal languages, and first nations culture. I have a lot of sources I saved to whip out for deniers haha.

There's a harrowing recount of a massacre, written by a modern woman as a retort to another bloke who denies the genocides (they're both academics), and I like to pull that one out for the shock value. I have it available but it's nsfw

Seagoon_@aussie.zone · 5 pts · 1y (2 replies)

I once saw an interview on ABC of an old farmer from Gippsland , this was over 30 years ago, where he talks about giving local first nation families sacks of poisoned flour. He talked of finding the dead families, children included. He had no sense of shame or guilt. So the interview is about 40 years old now and the guy was about 80 talking about when he was in his 20s and 30s, so this was maybe 100 years ago, that's still 20th century.

This is what it was like, individuals like this evil bastard committing murder.

I don't know if there was any organisation by or talk among farmers to commit systematic genocide.

StudChud@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 1y (1 reply)

That is actually foul af, evil. I had not heard about that! Good fucking lord what the actual fucking fuck

Seagoon_@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 1y

I have heard of two instances from the mouths of the perps. The Gippsland one and Northern Territory.

It was farmers, always graziers.

They would run families away from natural watering holes too, ( who would then of course die of thirst or hunger. ) There is a chapter on that in "We of the Never Never".

Have you got food and a little cash? Hoping the weekend flies by

Gibsonhasafluffybutt@aussie.zone · 6 pts · 1y

Yeah I'm OK. I frantically messaged a friend and he was super cool about it. I feel really grateful for that :)

just_kitten@aussie.zone · 6 pts · 1y (4 replies)

Dafuq, what kind of bank locks you out over the weekend??! Surely there's a way through. People get stuck overseas at all hours AEST...

Gibsonhasafluffybutt@aussie.zone · 4 pts · 1y (3 replies)

Need to present at a branch with ID

just_kitten@aussie.zone · 5 pts · 1y (1 reply)

That sounds really messed up. How on earth would this be managed if you were overseas?! And with branches being few and far between this really sucks. After the commbank outage recently I'm starting to think it might be beneficial to have accounts with multiple banks as a backup.

If you were out east side I'd spot you some cash... will you be OK for today and tomorrow?

Gibsonhasafluffybutt@aussie.zone · 5 pts · 1y

I really, really appreciate that. That's incredibly kind of you โค๏ธ I reached out to a friend who was happy to help out.

But again, thank you :)

Duenan@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 1y

Oh man. The hops which they send you through to fix your account is atrocious.

My one beef is that they keep sliming down branch locations and opening hours and itโ€™s next to impossible to get it fixed at times.

I hope itโ€™ll be fixed for you soon. Keep us updated!

StudChud@aussie.zone · 6 pts · 1y (1 reply)

You gotta stop giving those drug dealers an upfront payment before getting the goods. Especially if they tell you to desposit it via cashapp or PayPal lol.

Always cash when buying, and no pre-payment lol

Nah jokes aside that's fucked up! Like wtf? And the fact they did it on the weekend when they aren't open is evil. There isn't an after hours number you could call? Or something you could do via the online portal? Idk I'm sorry

Gibsonhasafluffybutt@aussie.zone · 5 pts · 1y

Gibson must have been buying catnip and temptations treats from the dark Web lol

One of my neighbours has been playing classical music over the last week or two and it's just so lovely to go out on the balcony and listen.

Some opera singers, classical instrumentals shame I know the songs but not the names of them.

Edit: O Sole Mio!!! That's it! That's what my neighbour is playing right now

Pilk@aussie.zone · 6 pts · 1y (1 reply)

That does sound lovely.

StudChud@aussie.zone · 6 pts · 1y

It really is so soothing. I think the neighbours playing the classical music might be the two Melbourne famous musicians who live in my building. The lady is a composer and conductor for an orchestra, and the bloke is a semi-well-known jazz sax player. They are so cultured ๐Ÿ˜ญ I'm intimidated lol but they're extremely down to earth and lovely people tbh

Took the Minipeelers out for an ice-cream and walked along the local creek. It's a windy, polleny kind of day but it wasn't unpleasant, not along the creek path anyway. Cut some of a plant outside that had keeled over for some reason. Did a couple of loads of washing and cleaned the bathroom. Am procrastinating on the kitchen.

Drove all the way to Preston to fill up at the last servo still doing 169/L (forgot I gotta drive to Ballarat tomorrow). Saved $7 compared to the other joints at 189, probably worth it as it would've only been about 50c extra of petrol. Dropped off some insanely overdue library books. Worked out how to undo the key lock I had my spare keys in. Laundry done. Now time to make a brunch of spinach, scrambled eggs, smoked salmon and toast.

Next up, grab some boxes and sort out empty jars (colleague has offered to take em all) and expired/unlikely to be used food in pantry. Might use up some of the pantry stuff to take tomorrow, maybe a big batch of BBQ jackfruit. E: nope it's going to be rice and curry, so jackfruit curry it is. And toor dal with spinach.

Llabyrinthine@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 1y (1 reply)

Yeah, so good. I paid over $2/L Blergh.

just_kitten@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 1y

Saturday morning insight into the weirdness that is my brain:

  • Dream recollection #1: being unable to breathe (scary, I have a feeling of being somewhat aware that I was dreaming but couldnโ€™t quite wake myself up).
  • Dream recollection #2: randomly eating a piece of 5 day old bread.

How did I even get this far in life?

StudChud@aussie.zone · 6 pts · 1y (1 reply)

I think youโ€™ve just got to come to terms with that itโ€™s not a waste of time and just gradually change your viewpoint on things.

Youโ€™re having some recreational time to yourself, would you feel any different if you read a book, listened to a podcast, movie or watched tv or did something socially?

Gibsonhasafluffybutt@aussie.zone · 4 pts · 1y

Taleya@aussie.zone · 1 pts · 1y (1 reply)

drainage. Our land slopes, the previous owners put in a brick retaining wall for a level garden bed. It had zero drainage, so was essentially a bathtub. The pipe is socked 65mm AGI, the arms slope down to the centre line, except the last one that the centre slopes into, and then goes out a drilled hole that will hook into further drainage. Finish gravelling over the pipe, fold the geotextile over like a fat sausage, kick the dirt back and then later putting in decorative dividers that will mimic what used to be a pile of concrete and brick bed dividers I painstakingly dug out.

Me too. I don't fully understand the grief people go through over allergies, as I don't have any myself. I too credit my lax (by current standards) parents who turned us kids out of doors a lot so long as we stayed in a pack. Also many childhood pets, cleaning with soap and water only (no anti-bacterial shit). And home cooking by Mum, a survivor of the Great Depression and rabidly anti-waste of good food. Tea yes, but no coffee or lolly water for us kids either.

Seagoon_@aussie.zone · 4 pts · 1y

7/12.

Llabyrinthine@aussie.zone · 4 pts · 1y

Hmm, bumbled a couple of questions, but happy with 8/12.

CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone · 4 pts · 1y

9/12

RustyRaven@aussie.zone · 4 pts · 1y

5/12

I actually knew one answer, the rest were all complete guesses.

anotherspringchicken@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 1y

9/12 with a couple of lucky guesses

Force_majeure123@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 1y

No thank you. Not my strong suit

StudChud@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 1y

9/12

Questions 4, 6, and 8 I had to guess and guessed wrong haha love me music trivia

just_kitten@aussie.zone · 7 pts · 1y (4 replies)

Ended up making a shit tonne of food, in addition to the dal and the slow cooked jackfruit, made a massive broccoli and pea and cashew curry that is bloody delicious if I say so myself. Not much progress with the jars and haven't started pantry cull yet. But I don't mind because I have momentum and a plan... and had a few nice family chats today so that was worth it.

Downside is I've picked up a nasty headache out of nowhere this arvo. I'm going to dish out this food, chuck everything in the dishwasher (I will fucking miss this dishwasher), finish the leftovers and call it a day. Gotta love winding down to Fresh Produce on PBS

Duenan@aussie.zone · 4 pts · 1y (1 reply)

I hope you feel better soon.

Give yourself a gentle shoulder shrug or three and see if you can feel any points of tension.

Pop some nurofen or panadol if you have any with your meal and that might make you feel better.

just_kitten@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 1y

Thanks. Had some Nurofen earlier which did nothing. I am gonna have some again, plus extra water as I think I'm dehydrated. I suspect it'll be better once I wake up. Feels like it was a reaction to something. So tired! I'm going to take it easy when I get back tomorrow.

PeelerSheila@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 1y (1 reply)

Your food sounds awesome! Sometimes I get a mid afternoon headache from standing at a prep bench all day. It's something to do with the angle of your neck. I hope you feel better soon!

just_kitten@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 1y

Oh, I hadn't thought about neck angle at all! That's something to keep in mind. I'm really glad to read that you're feeling better too despite the Dr being unhelpful the other day. Here's to a restful and healing night for us both.

@Catfish - sent you a DM with the source I have that's nsfw (discussed earlier in this thread)

Force_majeure123@aussie.zone · 5 pts · 1y (5 replies)

(it's pornhub.com)

StudChud@aussie.zone · 4 pts · 1y

You wish!

Pornhub would be preferable to what the source actually is lol

Some rather impressive model tram work here. I think the guy made these models himself and the overhead wires actually deliver power

I misread that as pickles and you know what? Still down for it

RustyRaven@aussie.zone · 4 pts · 1y (1 reply)

I think it is supposed to be pikelets, so that's really on me. I presume picklets are some sort of pickle pikelet hybrid. Maybe a version of okinomyaki, which would be pretty awesome. Just not with cream and maple syrup ๐Ÿคฃ

TheWitchofThornbury@aussie.zone · 4 pts · 1y

Pickle pikelets is doable, as there are recipies for gherkin filled cheese scones. They are very yum. Particularly with bacon or peanut butter on them.

tombruzzo@aussie.zone · 5 pts · 1y (4 replies)

Maybe The Hobbit isn't in stock. My order has been 'partially shipped' with the Hobbit being the only thing not sent.

Why did you let me buy it if there's no stock, Kmart?

Seagoon_@aussie.zone · 4 pts · 1y (1 reply)

It's sold out nearly every where. Choose a store near where you live that has stock and do a click and collect

tombruzzo@aussie.zone · 6 pts · 1y

It said there was stock online. I've been checking stock levels and it wouldn't let me buy it until now because it was out of stock. Something must have changed on the backend of their website

Duenan@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 1y (1 reply)

What tends to happen, especially if itโ€™s Kmart or big w is that theyโ€™ll say they have stock but as people buy them the stock levels donโ€™t update.

Itโ€™s not until they go and allocate your items in person that they discover they have no stock left.

Iโ€™m pretty sure their systems arenโ€™t live updated regularly enough.

Edit: also because theyโ€™re slow with click and collect.

tombruzzo@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 1y

I know I'll probably get a refund but I'd like to think someone at dispatch for Kmart is now going on a Jingle All The Way style quest to find me a copy of this book
