Edit: OH! And sorry, just a heads up. At least 2 of the following will fail in the next 12 months. No your house is not cursed. No one can explain WHY it happens: Hotplates, Hot water unit, Oven, Dishwasher, or a shower leak.
It's good to hear from you! I was worried you'd joined the many who have departed for one reason or another. I hope you're able to take things easy for a while.
It was a bit weird - I thought I was better, but I just couldn't be bothered doing anything. Then I actually got better and realised I hadn't actually been completely well after all! A bit like having a dream that you woke up, and then actually waking up.
I did get one good symptom - it killed my appetite for a while, and whilst it has come back it is currently still just at a fairly normal level instead of the weird constant peri-menopausal super hunger I've had for ages. I'm hoping it lasts as long as possible, it might actually be possible for me to lose some of my excessive weight - I've already lost enough that my clothes are fitting properly again.
Got some crap news last night.
::: spoiler Very Sad don't read if your not up to it
The animal rescue reached out to us the other week to ask if we'd noticed anything wrong with Jill (the rescue kitten). Apparently she had some balance issues or trouble using a back leg. We were sort of steeling ourselves that she might come back to us (we told them if she had any trouble finding a home she was always welcome with us.) They were talking her to the vet to get checked over.
We hadn't heard anything so followed up yesterday only to find she didnt make it. She passed shortly after we spoke to them the other week. They dont know exactly what was wrong, but she apparently had some issues. We are shattered. She wasnt even our cat but..... fuck man. just.... fuck.

Oh that is so sad. Many many hugs. I've been watching their lists waiting for her to pop up!
But she had warmth, comfort, food and peace which she would not have had without you.

Alrighty. The 2nd referee was just over to catch up and has completed his part of the form.
Let's see what happens. I was worried that letting him use my computer to do the reference check might put up some red flags but we'll see what happens.
Okay so I've always had this problem with the hot water tap in the shower where if you turn it far right enough it turns on again and goes to full blast (not an analogy for conspiracy theorists, I promise). I have usually been able to turn it to just the right point to get it to stop running without starting again.
However as of the last 3 days or so the showerhead has been dripping incessantly and getting worse and worse. Right now it's a constant trickle. Even if I turn off the tap as much as possible and turn the shower head upside down. I tried to turn it off completely at the mains and IT STILL WONT TURN OFF (and I can see it's my meter for sure as when I have the tap running I can see the mini meter spinning). update: I was an idiot and turned the mains tap the wrong way, it took a lot of turning to go completely off but I managed to shut it down thankfully.
This is beyond an attempt to DIY fix the shower tap, right? Contact the REA asap instead? The main bother is the dripping at night as I can't sleep (E: not without turning off hot water at the mains each time). Nobody's charged me for hot water so far so that's not the issue ... It would be costing the owner a lot though I imagine
E: email sent. Making it sound as dire as possible. Basically either I have increasing dripping or no hot water. I hope they get someone in asap, but it's the same REA who didn't even respect the law and tried to arrange an inspection 2 months into a 6 month lease, so...
Definitely contact someone and donโt try to tackle it yourself (just in case). Iโm no expert but there could be something wrong that could go sideways and result in difficulty turning off a strong flow
If it was minor it would be the kind of thing I figured would keep me on their good enough side if I fixed it myself (lease ends in mid May with potential for extension and I really do need it for just 1-2 extra months).
But the fact that even turning off the hot water at the mains did nothing has me worried
This is great to know. I wasn't sure it counted as urgent repair but I will definitely be making that clear to them now. The leaking is pretty bad now, I think all my tap turning has made it worse. I may have to put a towel in the bathtub to soak up the water so I can sleep at night.
Shit timing though, idk how long to wait before getting my own plumber and trying to get LL to reimburse
Thank you thank you thankyou. Good update is I managed to turn off the hot water at the source, like an idiot I had turned the knob the wrong way around. At least I can sleep tonight. Took video of dripping shower head and faulty tap mechanism and will hope for the best
Melbcat hid from me when I came back in the room after giving her meds :( She got over it quickly and is cuddling again but thatโs the first time sheโs ever acted scared of me. (Iโve never hurt her.)
Sheโs perked up a lot and seems to be feeling better on everything so I think itโs all working. It just sucks that the routine sheโs currently on is full on and stressful (not helped by her refusing to eat medicated food like before).
I hope that when the antibiotics are done she starts eating her usuals in wet food again so she only has to drink one med once a day.
Thanks. Sheโs definitely feeling better. Sheโs walking around, washing herself, curious about things and hungry for treats. Her fur looks good and her eyes more normal.
I think she knows I would never hurt her. Sheโs just overwhelmed by the current hardcore meds regime. Still sucks to see her anxious.

If my dog saw me get something from the fridge he likes, he'd do a little Irish jig but now he sits nicely like a drug detection dog.

I swear my dog knows the sound of cheese being grated. Mind you for tax time, I can make it rain (cheese) for him.
CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 1y
Oh yeah. Radar ears. Drop a vegetable and it's like I'm poisoning him. Drop cheese or meat and he doesn't leave my side.

I tried to turn it off completely at the mains and IT STILL WONT TURN OFF (and I can see it's my meter for sure as when I have the tap running I can see the mini meter spinning).update: I was an idiot and turned the mains tap the wrong way, it took a lot of turning to go completely off but I managed to shut it down thankfully.
I hope they get someone in asap, but it's the same REA who didn't even respect the law and tried to arrange an inspection 2 months into a 6 month lease, so...
melbaboutown@aussie.zone · 5 pts · 1y
Definitely contact someone and donโt try to tackle it yourself (just in case). Iโm no expert but there could be something wrong that could go sideways and result in difficulty turning off a strong flow
Catfish@aussie.zone · 4 pts · 1y
A tap shouldn't full circle like that in the first place. It's a safety hazard. You could probably DIY it, but what are you paying the bastards for?
just_kitten@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 1y
