I'm back.

It was a very nice house and the area is quiet and very safe. People have garden decorations in their front yards! That stuff would get stolen in a day here. 5 minute walk to the beach . ๐Ÿ™‚

only 3 other people were looking and one of them left very quickly, so 2 other people ๐Ÿคž

Now I'm off to to typo to get some big diaries and the chem to get lip balm. I have burnt lips ๐Ÿฅบ

RustyRaven@aussie.zone · 7 pts · 1y

I haven't been out looking at houses for sale in about 30 years. Back then it was primarily newspaper listings of open house times with minimal details and no pictures. The whole process has changed a lot since then.

I dug a hole :)

For the rain gauge post.

I'm very proud of myself.

70cm, so was paranoid was gonna hit a pipe as it's close to the tank / pump.

Interesting thing was seeing the soil horizons. They were textbook all there.

And once again the cheapo manual auger is useful.

Saturday. Laundry done and out on line - nearly ready to take in again. Shopping still to do. Will indulge in a banh mi from my local bakery on the way home. On second thoughts, shopping can be tomorrow. Banh mi is a must though. They've recently added a roasted mushroom one to their line up. It's yummmmmm.

On another note, this hot weather has magically removed 5 kilos of weight from my person.

Marketplace sales back on track today - two boxes of tools gone (and I was able to fit them in my garden cart to move them to the front of the house without killing myself). A few legit seeming offers on another item. But no interest on the stupidly heavy hunk of iron drill press so far.

In other good news I have realised I still have two hard rubbish pickups available to me, and get another two next financial year. So stuff I can't sell/give away I can still get rid of fairly easily. Operation clean-up-before-I-move as going very well.

Edit: other item also sold - my first postal sale over Marketplace. Probably because I usually sell big things And because I am not willing to cut the items to postable size with a hacksaw.

dumblederp@aussie.zone · 4 pts · 1y

I had someone come by this morning. Large sale item + small car = no sale. :(

tombruzzo@aussie.zone · 1 pts · 1y (1 reply)

I'm glad the postal sale worked out. That's one of the typical ways scammers try get people, so it's good they were genuine

RustyRaven@aussie.zone · 1 pts · 1y

There is always still a risk they will try to claim a package didn't arrive and get PayPal to refund, but with postage tracking it would be unlikely to be successful. The scammers generally try to push you into some dodgy or new payment system and then bamboozle you with fake emails, refunds and paying money to "release funds". They generally sound so ridiculous I am amazed people fall for them, but obviously lots of people do.

Overall I think the majority of people are pretty honest, but unfortunately the dodgy people have a disproportionate impact because they are playing a "numbers game" and contact a lot of people. The majority of the poor experiences when buying and selling are more the result of poor communication and mismatched expectations. I think that's one of the things that was good when eBay was the main selling system - they managed the whole process and made sure everything ran in a consistent and orderly way. Dispirate individuals trying to work everything out is like herding cats and ends up with a lot of chaos and some people getting scratched even if no one actually starts out intending to do harm.

Anyway, thank you for coming to my TED talk, I think I spend far too much time thinking about such things!

Our wall of east facing windows gives a lovely view but on days like today it's like having a full wall radiator on full blast. I closed the blinds so I'm no longer being broiled alive, but unfortunately that also means that instead of a nice view over the Dandenongs all I can see outside is passing traffic.

just_kitten@aussie.zone · 8 pts · 1y

I seem to have naturally woken up at 7:30 after emerging from some strange dream I don't remember (and it took me a few minutes to work out which day of the week it was. Isn't it amazing how much has to boot up in your brain before anything makes sense?)

My phone was flat, so... I just got out of bed like a normal person and went to the shops across the road for some milk and random things. And now I'm ready for breakfast and the rest of the day. Rather than rolling out at 10am after spending forever on various dopamine hits.

I think I really need to start forcing myself to sleep without my phone. It's insane how much it can consume the start of the day and set the tone. I have a bedside clock and a Kindle, that should be enough...

underwatermagpies@aussie.zone · 7 pts · 1y

I'm going on a picnic night- going to Macbeth in the Botanic Gardens with a friend. I haven't picnicked in yonks.

So I went to fish out my picnic basket this morning, and discovered that my favourite lifter/spatula thing, that's been missing for YEARS, and which I'd given up on (assumed I must've left it somewhere) was in fact hiding in the picnic basket the whole time. This has absolutely made my day.

I've also made a Blackberry & Bay Leaf cake that smells delish, and I get to see a lovely friend, so the play could be rubbish at this point but I'm giving the experience five stars.

Iโ€™m not sure if itโ€™s just me but I think Coleโ€™s hasnโ€™t been as generous with their fillings in their hot cross buns based on buying them last time.

I usually get the apple and cinnamon and you usually get your hands sticky from just taking out of the bag and a nice punch of sweetness with how much apple sauce they used.

Didnโ€™t get that last time. :/

Does anyone here listen to The Drums? I put on 'Let's Go Surfing' before swimming lessons in the morning.

I remember hearing around the time their first album came out they learnt how to play guitar because their music just wasn't working with synths. Did they continue down the guitar path or did they go back to synths?

anotherspringchicken@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 1y (2 replies)

Was it an orb weaver? We had a very stubborn one that kept building webs across the front path

RustyRaven@aussie.zone · 4 pts · 1y (1 reply)

It was too dark to see, but probably. Orb weavers regularly take down and rebuild their webs just to be extra tricky - I almost never run into them when I do a 4am walk, but a few hours later there seems to be more risk. With the notable exception of the time one built a web fully blocking the path which is the only exit from my property.

The non-inviters I posted about a few months back have invited me out after seeing them at a birthday today, thought I better take up the offer. Back from shopping and settling down. It was a lot hotter inside than I thought.

Why does Coles have to be on the other side of the shopping centre. Had to go back and forth because of cheaper beef mince that will be turned into burgers tonight pending my motivation.

Aldi didnโ€™t seem to have dim sims anymore so I went without and got some battered fish instead.

Also picked up the Aldi snacks priced at 1.69 a box.

Tried some, seasoning and flavour is a little subtle but very crunchy though.

I know the regular shapes have been going down in quality with their seasoning too but I havenโ€™t had those in ages.

I think for the price point at Aldi itโ€™s ok for what it is.
