Ted watching the rain.

Gibsonhasafluffybutt@aussie.zone · 12 pts · 1y

Last real day of work tomorrow.

Mainly meetings. Monday is do nothing day and Tuesday is the last day. Catching up with people Tuesday for lunch.

It's almost over.

repomonkey@aussie.zone · 12 pts · 1y

Thunderstorm just rolling over the village, but the house battery is fully charged and I need not fear the inevitable power cut.

StudChud@aussie.zone · 11 pts · 1y (2 replies)

Submitted another assessment, and passed the two I submitted last night. Phew!

Gotta wait for the quizzes to open, and complete the last two assessments on WHS, and I should be good.

I really hope I hear back about that job I interviewed for on Tuesday. I'm trying not to think too hard on it, just remain hopeful but not dwell. It's so hard because I'd freaking love it. Argh!

Gibsonhasafluffybutt@aussie.zone · 6 pts · 1y

Good luck! It's their loss if they don't contact you :)

Someone's playing guitar real late. It's pleasant though. Twangy, slow, country/blues-esque tune, a lilty voice that's too faint to make out.

It's a vibe and I'm vibing

There was 6 lamb chops. Theoretically 2 each but they were so good and the kid took too long to get to the table that I declared "there's only one chop each" and wrapped the other one up for the dog and I to share for ron.

AITA?

P.s. Don't worry. She won't starve. I gave her more vegetables and she didn't even mention how delicious the chop was. Only mentioned how good the mushroom was.

RustyRaven@aussie.zone · 7 pts · 1y (3 replies)

YTA. making the poor dog share a chop when you have already had your share. Shameful.

CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone · 4 pts · 1y (2 replies)

Thought as much. I give him a bit of mine and he didn't even chew. He better not blab or he'll get zilch.

He needs a little doggy raincoat and boots. Although I suspect heโ€™d be completely fine getting wet, and would love to roll wet-dog-smell all over your carpets

RustyRaven@aussie.zone · 7 pts · 1y (3 replies)

He does have a raincoat. No boots though. He's fine getting wet, but when he is wet he will roll on everything and run up and down the hallway rubbing against the walls. So if he does get wet he has to wear his robe until he dries off.

I'd pick up $1 or $2. Amounts under that will depend on my mood.

New AC game out, which shall be purchased swiftly

My new cannabis script is arriving at some stage.

Gonna be a good day

TinyBreak@aussie.zone · 5 pts · 1y (7 replies)

New AC game out, which shall be purchased swiftly

NOOOOOOO. Read a review or something first. People have got to stop giving ubisoft money if the game is shit. I stress the IF there. If its good go nuts! Took me ages to get my wife to see she was in an abusive relationship with AC games. She hate played odyssey and I had to put my foot down after she was yelling at the tv.

MeanElevator@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 1y (6 replies)

I have read reviews and watched gameplay videos over the past while.

Looks better than previous iterations.

And honestly, I've enjoyed each AC game to some extent. Valhalla was a low point for me, but had fun at the start. Mirage was decent, with a fine story.

By all accounts this one is an improvement over the previous RPG ones.

Duenan@aussie.zone · 1 pts · 1y (5 replies)

Valhalla didn't gel with me for some reason after awhile, maybe it was the itemization.

I can't say I've been following Shadows but I have heard about the twin protag thing and I'm not really sure I'm so keen on it being a dual protag game.

I've got Xenoblade Chronicles X today to pick up, I think Shadows can wait for a discount or something.

MeanElevator@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 1y (4 replies)

I'm actually looking forward to the dual protagonist thing. Syndicate was fine with it, but the characters were too close to each other. This one offers two very different gameplay styles.

From what I've seen combat is better then before and actually requires a bit of skill. They seem to have taken cues from Ghost of Tsushima.

In any case, got nothing else to play at the moment, so this should do me nicely. I'm off work next week, so can fully immerse myself in it.

Duenan@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 1y (3 replies)

I'll keep my eye out on Shadows as I do love the Japanese setting. I'm hoping we'll see Ghosts of Yotei later this year somewhere.

Let me know how Shadows go after you've had a good play session or two out of it.

MeanElevator@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 1y (2 replies)

Will do. I'll probably post my feelings and experiences later today, or tomorrow.

GOY is my most anticipated game this year (I'm pretty certain it's a 2025 release).

Hoping AC is big and decent enough to hold me over until the official announcement for the other one.

Duenan@aussie.zone · 1 pts · 1y

Well that didn't take long to escalate.

Apparently there's going to be a day 1 patch due to complaints about shrines and temples.

"The day one patch will make tables and shelving located in in-game shrines indestructible and will reduce non-essential depictions of bloodshed taking place in shrines and temples. In addition, when attacking unarmed NPCs, there will no longer be depictions of blood. "

dumblederp@aussie.zone · 8 pts · 1y

Stupid back and the stupid amount of pain it brings. Can barely even get on the foam roller.

Catfish@aussie.zone · 8 pts · 1y

Keys to the old house handed it. Good riddance, hope they knock it down.

Less great it looks like the next door neighbour who helped himself to our garage is going to be an ongoing problem. No, your tradies may not traipse back & forth through my house all day. Grrr.

tombruzzo@aussie.zone · 7 pts · 1y (13 replies)

I got very lucky with my tech support session yesterday. I just had to set up a scanner, which could have been simple enough, but the laptop wasn't connected to wifi, nor was it picking up the hotspot from my phone.

Fortunately, the laptop was old enough to still have a disc drive. So I was able to install the drivers from the disc that came with it instead.

Taleya@aussie.zone · 4 pts · 1y (12 replies)

Every house with those demon driveless devices should have at least one usb cd/dvd rom. People mock the humble optical drive until the shit hits the fan, then they roll around squealing

RustyRaven@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 1y (4 replies)

I have one of these. I also have a usb 3 1/4 floppy disk drive, do I get bonus points for that?

Taleya@aussie.zone · 4 pts · 1y (2 replies)

Those floppy drives are mad useful when you do a deep clean and find Ye Olde Shite. I've still got one kicking around, amazing how many times it gets used once people realise you have one

RustyRaven@aussie.zone · 4 pts · 1y (1 reply)

I don't have Ye Olde Shite, those li'l guys are in current use here. My sewing machine uses them for design files, so they are my link from the computer.

PII-200 running dos 6.2.2 and win 311 with a working 3.5 and 5.25 drives for retro gaming here :)

fuck all network capability tho, so I keep my USB floppy handler for anything I snaffle from the net

Bottom_racer@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 1y

I have a zip drive which I proudly display at the back of a cupboard somewhere.

Used to be used for a medical practice where they'd send disks up to Syd. every week for back ups.

dumblederp@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 1y (1 reply)

I plugged a leftover usb sata hdd controller into an internal cd-rom drive to get USB CD action a few months ago. Kinda surprised, kinda impressed.

Taleya@aussie.zone · 1 pts · 1y

nah that's all standard connectivity.

What was insane was watching a friend with a busted touch screen on his phone attach a fucking computer mouse via a USB to micro USB adapter cable in the charging port and use it like that for a couple months

tombruzzo@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 1y (4 replies)

It worked in this case. But it was so weird with this laptop, it wasn't picking up any wifi networks. They had an ancient laptop at home as well and that one was connected to the wifi there. I was even able to connect the printer to the wifi via WPS. This laptop was picking up nothing. I was ready to drive down to the nearest Jaycar and pick up an ethernet cable.

I think I assume to much of a tech competence baseline in these sessions. At first I was worried they wouldn't be able to login to the laptop because they bought it a while ago specifically to scan photos and hadn't touched it in years. I should ask people to have their diaries with their passwords handy, make sure they can login to the devices and accounts they want to work on, and I should bring a couple of common cables just to make sure as well.

RustyRaven@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 1y (3 replies)

My older laptop stopped working with my WiFi at some point, I had to buy a wireless dongle to work with the newer wifi equipment.

tombruzzo@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 1y (2 replies)

That's what's so weird. This laptop isn't ancient but it couldn't find anything. The older laptop looked like it was from 2009 and was connected to the internet

Taleya@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 1y (1 reply)

what os on the non-ancient laptop? I'm guessing some proprietary wlan handler that windows is having a bargy with

tombruzzo@aussie.zone · 1 pts · 1y

It was out of the box Windows 10. It seemed like a mid-tier laptop for the time, I can't remember brand. These people probably just go to JB Hi-Fi and buy a $500 laptop when they're on sale so I haven't seen anything too exotic in my support sessions so far

just_kitten@aussie.zone · 7 pts · 1y (1 reply)

Alright I have bought a carrot, quarter head of cabbage, red capsicum and some green beans to cook with the remaining eggplants and new pack of tofu puffs. And braved Glenferrie Rd to get the requisite spice paste earlier. Let the sayur lodeh commence. Even though I will not have lontong to eat with it

E: it only took an hour but it is done. It is not really sayur lodeh but an inspired stew absolutely overstuffed with vegetables. I should've really kept it to cabbage, eggplant, half a carrot, green beans and tofu puffs. But I also threw in leftover bottle gourd, red capsicum, and tempeh. Barely enough space but it all cooked. Half of it is going in the freezer.

::: spoiler yikes :::

anotherspringchicken@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 1y

That looks amazing!

thatKamGuy@sh.itjust.works · 7 pts · 1y (7 replies)

Legitimate question; what has happened to the Monash Freeway the last four or so weeks? Morning commutes are now ~75 minutes from like 6:30am onwards. Used to be a clean run up until like 7:15 or so.

dumblederp@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 1y

If it were a family feud question I'd answer with accidents, return to office and dual cabs.

just_kitten@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 1y (5 replies)

More return to office mandates is my guess.

SituationCake@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 1y

Itโ€™s economically rubbish all round. More costs for government: More wear and tear on roads, more road accidents; Bad for environment: more petrol burnt, more pollution; Bad for employers: Less productivity, cranky staff, more leasing costs for offices, less access to talent because geographical restrictions; Bad for the employees: less personal time and family time, bad for kids, bad for community, and cost of commuting mean less money to spend elsewhere so cost of living impact. Itโ€™s completely ridiculous anyone would try to claim it has net positives, itโ€™s nothing but a power trip for shitty employers. But this is the world we live in. Thereโ€™s no sense to it.

thatKamGuy@sh.itjust.works · 2 pts · 1y (3 replies)

Itโ€™s absolutely atrocious now; was hoping it might be temporary due to roadworks elsewhere, or bus replacements due to train works.

Makes my commute cancer, and I donโ€™t even have the option to take public transport instead ๐Ÿ˜ญ

just_kitten@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 1y (2 replies)

I've been going down a good length of the Monash counter peak a couple days a week the last 3 weeks for work, and I always look at the peak direction hellscape with a mix of horror, pity, and depression. It's horrible. Even at 7:30am it's backed up in Dandenong...

thatKamGuy@sh.itjust.works · 2 pts · 1y (1 reply)

Thatโ€™s what Iโ€™ve been experiencing as of late, too. Inbound, where the Gippy Hwy joins onto the Monash is slows to a crawl, then picks up until the Eastlink merge, where it slows to a crawl and continues until around Warrigal Rd where (thanks to the added lane?) it opens up again.

Now Iโ€™m to try and avoid the impact I have to either leave at before 6am or after 9:30am in order to have a somewhat decent (sub-45 minute) run into the office; but at least Iโ€™m lucky enough to have that flexibility!

just_kitten@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 1y

Definitely milk that flexibility as much as you can. Spending all that time and energy stuck in (and causing) traffic is not how we were meant to spend our lives as humans ๐Ÿ˜ญ

It has been. I think between Wordpress and Woocommerce they're trying to expand what you can do through visual editors, but there are still some problems.

I figured it out though, and I figured out how to do it with a live preview all through Inspect Element on the site. If anything, having limited editing and styling options was a distraction because I was trying to do it through there instead of just making custom CSS

I finally got sucked in by the advertising and bought a pair of loop earbuds. I come home exhausted from my office days and I think the ambient noise is partly to blame. And I get a bit of traffic noise at home. Trying them at home today and seem ok but the test will be the office tomorrow.

Warehouse manager and I are good friends outside of work, but inside of work it's a tough slough. Our brains just work so differently, it's both infuriating and hilarious trying to understand each other.

This rain is making me so sleepy. I want to curl up under my desk!
