Eleven days until my 33rd birthday. When COVID started, I was 27 turning 28. My 30th happened during one of the lockdowns.
I've gone through 4 or 5 different calls centre jobs since 2019.
Now I'm studying animal care, with the plan to do either a Cert IV in Vet Nursing, or a Diploma of Animal Tech.
I spent only one year with my partner before COVID started. We've been together 6 years in Jan just gone.
It feels so long and no time at all. So much has changed.
I am grateful how I have managed to change my trajectory on a personal scale.
It's gonna be okay, eventually, and I hold enough hope about that for those who can't be hopeful.
I am eternally grateful for this community, a home made of code and human souls sharing their lives and advice. You've been amazing to me, even though I've been less than stellar at times.
Sending you all my love and good vibes! ๐๐๐
Everyone in the block of flats next door have moved out (was sold, probably end up being townhouses), last dude to leave who has early onset dementia came and said goodbye which was a bit sad. Really nice guy and can't imagine the move for him is gonna be easy.
Other place next door on the other side (with a bunch of noisy kids which is all good) have moved out cause they're about to do renos.
Completely neighbourless, and the lack of noise reminds me of locky lockdowns which to be honest isn't the worst thing.
Have the demolition company use an excavator to load it all into demo skips. e: My dad's a hoarder and once upon a time the stuff he collected was worth something, now it's a hectare of shit that's been left to rot out the back of Castlemaine.
Nah. 20 bucks at Big W. Runners donโt last me long anyway because my gait is weird, so if Iโm going to experiment with styles I go cheap. I go more upmarket once Iโm sure the style suits me and I wonโt destroy canvas shoes in six weeks!
Neck and shoulder tightness and strains also cause me to get headaches, especially if Iโve been hunched over at a desk and it bunches up all my muscles together.
The spinach recalls because of E. Coli remind me of when I got salmonella from spinach in the early 2010s. My ex and I were so so sick, dying on the couch watching TV together, when the news started talking about it - that's how we found out what we had and why we were sick ๐
I got poisoned by a piece of salmon. It was instant. First time I've ever walked into a doctor's clinic with a bucket. A few people were seen to that day who had purchased the salmon at the same place. And yes, I still eat salmon.
The man just tried to return a bag of spinach and the workers had no idea what he was on about. The manager was called.
The one exception I have with that is the time my shitty dad brought home some white chocolate bars home (probably got them for free from some event) and I already didn't like white chocolate much... only to discover halfway through the second bar there were dead insects and eggs inside ๐คฎ I still can't really eat white chocolate to this day.
much quieter here, last place had 5 neighbouring houses doing renos, one is a major demolition, the other uses jack hammers
and no aggressive junkies here, no porch pirates so far, had a package sit on my porch all day, was still there
and last thing I saw in my street in Carlton, first time I saw a homeless lady pushing a shopping trolley with her belongings, I went up to her and gave her a 20, she spoke in a middle class accent
I do understand living in the suburbs ( which I haven't done in 35 years ) means that even if I don't see social problems that doesn't mean the problem has gone away ๐
Apparently I had a deprived childhood. I have never made or worn an Easter bonnet or hat. I thought it was an odd new thing, but friends of the same vintage and similar geography tell me this had been happening for many decades, I've just somehow completely missed it. Huh.
They were usually made in art class with cardboard, coloured paper and pipe cleaners. Then everyone paraded theirs around at a type of assembly while the Easter bunny visited your classroom dropping an egg off on your desk.
That would have been fun. The few years at school we did them it was a chore given to parents, and then the children of the most creative/involved parents were given awards and made to feel special.

Once in you can pinch the base and twist it to try and help it pop open, run your finger around the outside, or try a different folding method.

The Meluna are good and come in normal or Shortie but keep in mind theyโre a bit pricey and depending on your needs the smaller sizes could be way too small. Definitely look up size comparison charts online
I haven't used cups but I want to try them as well lol
I use period undies, and overnight pads on the heavy days. Period undies are good, but the best ones are ones made from fabric - cheap ones are mostly polyester/synthetic and they cause a bit of sweat rash. The fabric ones are breathable, and I haven't leaked once with them.
Not really part of this discussion but which are the good brands? I have to start thinking about this soon for Miniest and I want to have some in the cupboard handy for when the painters suddenly arrive ๐ณ
I've got bonds, kmart and love luna, and the bonds are better. I don't trust them on heavy days though because they leak through the side seams at the gusset when the river is flowing.
Seconding Bonds. At Woolies they're sometimes on special, usually just next to the pads/tampons. The cheaper versions are synthetic polyester stuff which isn't great in hot weather, makes my ass sweaty and rashy, so check what they're made of - any lace ones are also not great and will fall apart. But anything that's fabric blend is good for breathability and longevity. I can't remember the other brand of fabric ones (maybe love luna?) I have but I also got them from Woolies.
Been a couple of years now since I got an IUD and haven't needed a cup. But I used one for a few years and had a great run (wish I'd been brave enough to use them before). Sadly they were some no name brand I got on special overseas so couldn't tell you what to get. They sent a medium and large size, the medium was supposed to be for women my size who hadn't had vaginal births but it leaked so I tried the large and that fit me just right. Though it took a few tries to work out how to fold and insert smoothly. Also my very first time I pulled it out without releasing the seal... do not, under any circumstance, do that.
But yeah it's hard to tell without just trying one first, to work out the size and shape of your vagina. The first may not be the best fit and you may have to wear the cost of trying again. Once you find one that works though, it's SO awesome - cleaner undies, fresher cooch, much less anxiety around leakage.
Had to do something pretty unfortunate this morning, so to balance it put, I finally got some lobster ramen. While the lobster itself was so-so (a bit tough) the lobster bisque ramen soup was the stuff my dreams are made out of!!
DUDE!! You were the one who posted about the lobster ramen a while back. I kept meaning to post asking who it was and how it was. Nice to see a review and post. Thanks, I was really curious...
Honestly the bisque alone was absolutely worth it - though the sparkling sake was always worth the stop off. As mentioned, the actual lobster was a bit of a hassle, but for the cheese and pesto sauce, worthy of its place all the same. I would love to try out of their more regular, down to earth ramens!
Among my recent purchases is a pair of canvas high tops. Because why the fuck not.
The process of stretching them slightly to get the fit just right - they ARE the right size, but feel just a smidge too small at the heels - is ongoing. I have stuffedโฆabout four pairs of bundled up socks in these sneakers?
I thought the denizens of this shithole had finally left the bird water aloneโฆ Nope. Same tweaker came back yesterday and stole the metal pet bowl I was using to weigh the foil pan down.
Threw the water out of it the same aggressive way before stealing it so I have no idea why he keeps stealing them.
Heโs always around here being a dickhead. And that was Melbcatโs old bowl, I was still using that. I wish stolen items could carry a curse.
I went out and checked the yellow sticky traps. They got a few but the whiteflies were mostly clustered underneath the leaves and the traps had caught multiple long legged fliesโฆ aka the beneficial insects that eat the aphids. Plus one tiny katydid. They might have got a weird kind of ladybird yesterday (which I freed).
Not happy Jan. Iโve taken them down and wonโt be using them anymore.
It was an aph-ocalypse under there on the worst plant so I ended up using a strong solution of natural dish soap to douse and scrub wherever they were. It ended up leaving a thin wet lather of detergent behind which might harm the plants and encourage mildew (already an issue) but is hopefully insecticidal. Fingers crossed it doesnโt affect the good bugs.
Melbcat wasnโt impressed that I was out there for ages while she had to stay inside, so sheโs off in her bed. Itโs a shame. She could have sat with me or sunbathed. But I need her to accept staying a fully indoor kitty and not expect to be let out.
My gum near the problem tooth is looking red and sore so I think thereโs a problem again. Hopefully only a minor infection from a floss nick but Iโll have to get that sorted between everything else going on.
Neighbours are already either up and drinking or haven't stopped. Given I heard them at 2am but they were quiet by 6am, I suspect they at least had a disco nap.
Had a late & boozy one yesterday and no energy for cooking anything so took myself out to a sit-down brunch for the first time in a while. I remember why I donโt do this anymore. So expensive and small servings. At least the coffee slapped, Iโm feeling human again.
ahh yes. the old game of "did the circuit trip because the PSU blew or did the PSU blow because of the circuit trip" Followed swiftly by "where the fuck did my spare PSU go" and then onto "Fuck me, what the shit happened to PC stores while my back was turned"
(I need to get my UPS on a separate circuit, about once a year we get a dirty feed that it regulates and then the RCD shits itself thinking it's a spike)

We had a good day at the Zoo today, the tigers and monkeys were fairly active.
My biggest takeaway was the Norco Scene is the zoo's bike of choice. If I was Norco or a reseller I'd get on that for a campaign

I'd looove booby trapping/ambushing this fucker! In a way that you can't be obviously blamed for it.

Aah I've got nothing ๐ I've been racking my brain and can't come up with anything completely foolproof and unproblematic.

Does anyone know of an animal rescue or shelter that takes strays?
The ones I've tried just say to contact the council and that's not going to lead to a positive outcome.
