People writing "seperate" instead of "separate"

I hate it. And this is the right place to rant about it, right? I don't mind people confusing your and you're, or then for than, but when I read "seperate" my eyes cringe. It's painful.

AAAAAAAGH

WHY.

I'm a writer and always did exceptionally well in English; I also sometimes can't remember how to spell separate. Imagine how difficult it is for someone who doesnt know English as their primary language. Or an average American.

To separate is to part, not to pert. Easy.

English is not my primary language either, I wonder if that has anything to do with it. BUT I STILL HATE IT

Welcome to English where the spelling is made up and the rules don‘t matter.

Don't hate me...

People here say "sep-rate".

Mothra@mander.xyz · 3 pts · 1y

Thanks for pointing that out. I wrote "say" in the same sense one would say writing can convey what one says. But my problem is specifically with writing. So I've amended the post title.

I’ve never heard any difference in how people pronounce that word. Can you make it more explicit? Recordings perhaps?

Sep-er-ate vs sep-ret

Sep-ret as the adjective, sep-a-rate as the verb? That's how it's said where I am.

This is one of the mistakes I keep making cause it's pronounced "seperat" in my dialect.

reddig33@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 109d

“There’s a rat in separate.”

lokiprime@lemm.ee · 1 pts · 1y

If it weren't for spellcheck, I'd definitely make this mistake.

FreshParsnip@lemmy.ca · 1 pts · 110d (1 reply)

I actually didn't know the verb and adjective are spelled differently

Mothra@mander.xyz · 2 pts · 109d

"seperate" isn't a word in english. Separate is spelled the same way if used as a verb or adjective, sorry.
