Induction cooktops are just a ruse by big cast iron to sell us skillets we don't even need.

They doing great job with the propaganda, because I've bought 2 and love them.

Wow, that's awful—my condolences.
Which ones, tho? I need to know what to stay away from. 👀

I have one of the normal sized Lodge ones and one comically small one that turned out to be actually pretty great for one egg or one portion of anything.

Shove a wire through a piece of bacon and watch that thing fry.. in mid air even!

Really leveraging "need"

Instructions unclear, all bones in hand now broken.

Thanks, I hate it.

You don't even need a stove if the weather is hot enough

festnt@sh.itjust.works · 6 pts · 1y (2 replies)

yeah just live on the equator, it's simple

BmeBenji@lemm.ee · 6 pts · 1y (1 reply)

Or just wait a few years

KammicRelief@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 1y

I hate that I laughed kind of hard at that. Oh well! Have an upvote.

Honestly if I was stuck with one of these shitty resistive heater stoves I'd definitely do this for stuff like warming up pancakes. Less energy and time wasted on heating the pan.

TheDorkfromYork@lemm.ee · -22 pts · 1y (3 replies)

This is not a resistive heat stove, but an induction stove. induction stoves are amazing.

EvacuateSoul@lemmy.world · 43 pts · 1y (1 reply)

No, this is just a glass top resistive stove.

TheDorkfromYork@lemm.ee · 40 pts · 1y

You are right and I am embarrassed.

TheSlad@sh.itjust.works · 21 pts · 1y

An induction stove would not cook a bacon like that lol

ZILtoid1991@lemmy.world · 16 pts · 1y (5 replies)

Good luck with cleaning it, or even boiling water for pasta!

Bytemeister@lemmy.world · 13 pts · 1y

It's easy to clean, just use water and wipe it clear. Never soap. If you put soap on it, you'll ruin the coating and will have to re-season your stovetop again.

Cleaning away all the good taste?!

Sacrilège !

ByteJunk@lemmy.world · 12 pts · 1y (1 reply)

There's a restaurant in France that's been in the same family for 4 generations now, and they cook all meals in a stove just like this, with no pans.

Yhey've been accumulating the juices and flavours all this time, and while it takes a long time to cook a dish, the taste is absolutely unique.

Or so I've heard.

I actually warm up tortillas this way.

slingstone@lemmy.world · 9 pts · 1y

Take that, Big Pan!

That uncontained bacon grease really hurts, but at least you know you're not contributing to the culinary-industrial complex.

kaidezee@lemmy.ml · 2 pts · 1y

Well yes, technically the amount of heat released because of current going through the coil can heat things up on it's own, but this is generally a huge waste of power and kind of misses the whole "induction" part of "induction cooking". And those things (the coils) aren't meant to heat up for that exact reason. Edit: I really thought it was a shitty induction stove, but apparently it's just a resistive stove...
