I'm starting to think about retirement. Not very seriously, it's still over a decade away - but in a "how the hell are we going to get a house and pay it off before that?" kinda way.

But if we somehow manage it, retirement is going to be awesome.

Seagoon_@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 1y

got me in the first half ...lol

Alamutjones@aussie.zone · 11 pts · 1y (2 replies)

Big-ass bowl of pasta and an episode of Spooks?

Donโ€™t mind if I do

Seagoon_@aussie.zone · 6 pts · 1y

I just had some fish and chips

and I might lie down and listen to an audio book

Duenan@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 1y

I had 2 lamb souvlakis. That sort of a day.

Will retire with wine

just_kitten@aussie.zone · 11 pts · 1y (4 replies)

30C outside, 24C in the shade, perfectly cool but not cold breeze, just the sound of leaves rustling, and I have the place to myself for 1 hour while everyone goes out for an appointment. A moment of bliss... There are times where I've started missing the familiarity of Melbourne but in this moment I am definitely not missing it

Bottom_racer@aussie.zone · 4 pts · 1y

12c here for the next few :)

You're not missing out on much.

Seagoon_@aussie.zone · 4 pts · 1y (1 reply)

SaneMartigan@aussie.zone · 4 pts · 1y

Cold days too.

Duenan@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 1y

Very windy and rainy here today. You donโ€™t want this

calhoon2005@aussie.zone · 8 pts · 1y (5 replies)

I was just having a coffee and I looked up and I saw a mouse running out of the kitchen. it ran straight towards my dog, over his paws and around him and under the couch. He looked at me like what the hell did you see that ? Useless dog sigh

MeanElevator@aussie.zone · 6 pts · 1y

Dog was looking at you thinking how could YOU let this happen

Catfish@aussie.zone · 4 pts · 1y

Some previous cats did that. I even trapped the thing in the bathtub for their entertainment. Nope.

Eagle@aussie.zone · 4 pts · 1y

Want to borrow a Jack Russell? Your flooring may never recover, but you'll have no more rodents.

anotherspringchicken@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 1y (1 reply)

When we had mice the cat did nothing, either. Apparently she was too well fed to bother

melbaboutown@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 1y

tombruzzo@aussie.zone · 7 pts · 1y (3 replies)

Everyone is bringing their kids into the office today. Two people have already swung by with their kids and mine are coming this afternoon. The women in the office are getting spoiled

Eagle@aussie.zone · 6 pts · 1y (2 replies)

My favourite part of the work day is when my Grade 6er arrives at my work after school.

tombruzzo@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 1y (1 reply)

It's a little different when it's your own kid. A guy's 3 year old daughter comes into the office here and all the women rush from their desks to form a circle around her.

Eagle@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 1y

Puppies and babies are a trap!

Alamutjones@aussie.zone · 7 pts · 1y (2 replies)

Have fortified self with lunch burrito

SpinMeAround@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 1y (1 reply)

Yummo! What's your go-to burrito of choice?

Some of the office peeps and I went out to out local Malaysian place, always an excellent feed. Now I'm trying to stay awake at my desk. Today is shaping up to be an excellent food day!

Alamutjones@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 1y

I went chipotle chicken today. Normally, from this place, I favour their barbacoa.

I don't get work burrito very often. Normally my work lunch of choice is crispy pork or crispy eggplant banh mi from the excellent banh mi joint, but the line there was mental

Catfish@aussie.zone · 7 pts · 1y (4 replies)

I need to rehome some hobby items, and the most interested person is somebody I loath. Hundreds of hours in these things so yeah it does matter. Ugh.

Seagoon_@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 1y (3 replies)

sell them on ebay

Catfish@aussie.zone · 1 pts · 1y (2 replies)

Probable same result. Do I care more about the where or who?

Eagle@aussie.zone · 4 pts · 1y

Elevate the price to the point it doesn't matter, and buy yourself something nice with the extra.

Seagoon_@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 1y

ebay it will be someone who really wants the items ๐Ÿ˜Š

not someone who is taking them for reasons you can't be sure are personal and not good

melbaboutown@aussie.zone · 7 pts · 1y

Regretting the accidental nap when I got home

Edit: I am also hating how Apple Music works now. Thought Iโ€™d try to buy some of the music I like to rely less on YouBoob but itโ€™s so focused on shoving a subscription service down your throat that you have to close that signup window after trying to do anything. And it makes you jump through hoops just to access being able to listen to a song version before you buy.

Capitalism is truly ruining everything.

I wish cds were better in op shops and the ones on eBay were less expensive. I wish I could read sheet music and wasnโ€™t surrounded by people so I could just damn well sing it myself

tone212_@aussie.zone · 6 pts · 1y (2 replies)

Iโ€™m the type to help keep the door open if someone is not too far behind me, walking the same direction. You know, politeness and all. Just witnessed someone at the gym look back, see me walking towards them, open the door the slightest amount possible (push open and it automatically shuts) and then it slammed right in my face. Thats humanity for you.

RustyRaven@aussie.zone · 4 pts · 1y

I've been on the other side of that situation. Usually the story is something along the lines of looking back to see someone is following, misjudging how long it will actually take to reach the door, struggling to decide whether to wait and then totally fumbling the door and walking off in shame because I completely messed up what should have been a straightforward interaction. Now that I'm older I'm less stressed about that sort of thing and would probably apologise for totally messing up the door holding thing, but when I was younger I would have been too overwhelmed by messing up the first interaction.

Of course that person could just have been a dick, in which case fuck them and I hope they stub their toe on an exercise bike.

Gibsonhasafluffybutt@aussie.zone · 4 pts · 1y

Some gym people shouldnโ€™t be classed as people and I say that as a gym person.

The non stimulant is probably called Zyban. And yeah it's around 150 a month.

Sorry you've had such a hard time with it. Tbh I did as well for about a month. It's hard to put your life on hold for that long experimenting with dosage.

Fingers crossed it works out with the psych :)

Duenan@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 1y

Either a bad flu or covid.

Hope you get plenty of rest and feel better soon. A real shame to miss out on this weekend.

Nice to be asleep for a while.

MeanElevator@aussie.zone · 4 pts · 1y (6 replies)

I have this stupid notion that only warm drinks provide energy/stimulation.

There is zero facts to support it, but that's what I choose to abide by.

melbaboutown@aussie.zone · 4 pts · 1y (3 replies)

Sounds like why Chinese people drink hot water.

Dang old Dao Yin typa stuff man

MeanElevator@aussie.zone · 6 pts · 1y (2 replies)

Used to work with a chap (very white aussie). He'd always drink hot water and take Chinese herbal meds for everything.

Never met a person who would get sick more than him.

Seagoon_@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 1y (1 reply)

poison has a tendency to make people sick

MeanElevator@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 1y

Oh yeah. He used have a hacking cough and would take some weird shit for it. He'd be 100% certain that the medicine helped to cure the cough after like 4 weeks.

4 weeks!!!

Alamutjones@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 1y (1 reply)

Depends on the weather. If it's hot there is a temp threshold the drink must be below, in all other conditions hot drinks are preferable

MeanElevator@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 1y

Peak of summer, I'm still doing a hot coffee.

Or a nicely boiled Red Bull

Seagoon_@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 1y

Let's post photos of old clocks that don't work.

I have no idea what this one is, I believe it's a wind up something or rather but it belonged to great grandparents. probably hasn't worked in a century lol. Looks nice though.

Seagoon_@aussie.zone · 4 pts · 1y (4 replies)

i mop the floor every time anyway, cat paws are yucky, only takes 5 seconds with the dettol wipes mop https://www.dettol.com.au/cleaning/wipes/dettol-antibacterial-floor-mop-system-pack-of-25-wipes/

carpet, I do not like carpet

melbaboutown@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 1y (3 replies)

RustyRaven@aussie.zone · 4 pts · 1y

A wet and windy day to follow such a lovely day yesterday. Most of my cardboard managed to stay in place, just a couple of bits that were not weighted down enough. The bins were another story, there are wheelie bins strewn everywhere up and down the street, plus a lot of rubbish blowing around from bins that fell before collection.

I took a trip to Bunnings and now have picture hooks, a new hose connector for the tap, weed killer for the path and an edger for the grass. That used up all the gift certificates I had that needed to be used in store (thanks to Flybuys and Telstra), plus a few dollars off a pre-paid Mastercard I've been gifted. I've still got a couple of hundred left on the Mastercard to buy mulch & fertiliser etc. before I have to start using any of my own money. ๐Ÿ™‚

Iโ€™m excited to see how the pork bellies pieces turn out in the air fryer over the weekend.

TheWitchofThornbury@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 1y

Pork belly goes good in airfryer. Nicely crackles up the rind. Great way to render out plenty of pork fat for other dishes too.

Canoli is expensive but when it's good it's hard to say no

MeanElevator@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 1y (1 reply)

As other said, it's either okay or God tier. Very little in between.

There's a Canoli stand in our shopping centre and they're very mid.

There's a cake shop in Tullamarine that does absolutely amazing ones. Not worth the venture out, but if you're ever in the area, Eiffel Tower cakes is the bomb.

They pretty much catered every wog function, I have ever been to, with pastries and cakes.
