Whole family had a drink to mourn our cat.

Told my son off for taking a sip before clinking the glasses.

Boy gonna learn today.

Catfish@aussie.zone · 9 pts · 363d (2 replies)

This is just. May her memory be a blessing ๐Ÿฅƒ

MeanElevator@aussie.zone · 10 pts · 363d (1 reply)

Wife and I come from cultures where death and funerals are the most depressing things ever.

We're trying to change that.

Kids have divided her toys between them and will make ornaments from them.

Seagoon_@aussie.zone · 6 pts · 363d

youse guys are awesome ๐Ÿฅฒ

I will learn from this

Seagoon_@aussie.zone · 7 pts · 363d (1 reply)

that's very good of you to honor your cat ๐Ÿ˜˜

so many hugs

MeanElevator@aussie.zone · 13 pts · 363d

My parents taught me that pets are family, not animals.

Passing that sentiment along to my kids.

We had a good dinner banter session about the cat. Made inside jokes and had some reflection (not intentional, just flowed).

Everyone is in good grieving spirits.

MeanElevator@aussie.zone · 16 pts · 363d (26 replies)

Had to put our cat down last night. Poor little thing was sick all week, multiple vet visits and she deteriorated rapidly last night. Started as tummy issues but turned into a massive infection and didn't respond to treatment.

Absolutely devastated.

Please hug your pets extra today.

SituationCake@aussie.zone · 6 pts · 363d (1 reply)

So sad, sorry to hear. Pets lives are too brief.

MeanElevator@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 363d

For real. We made the best with the time we had.

SpinMeAround@aussie.zone · 5 pts · 363d (1 reply)

That's a tough decision to make, but so good of you to not let the little one suffer any more. Sending you and the fam lots of love and warmth!

MeanElevator@aussie.zone · 6 pts · 363d

Thanks, she was getting so bad even the vets said it's low chances she'll make it. Wish I could have hugged her more.

Bottom_racer@aussie.zone · 4 pts · 363d (1 reply)

Rough.

So sorry to hear that.

MeanElevator@aussie.zone · 4 pts · 363d

Thanks. The shock of it all took a lot out of us.

melbaboutown@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 363d (1 reply)

MeanElevator@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 363d

Thanks, we are. A lot to process very quickly. Try to grieve in a healing way and focusing on the positive impacts the cat had on us and vice versa.

tone212_@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 363d

MeanElevator@aussie.zone · 4 pts · 363d

It was bad. She was pretty young too. We'll manage but the house is so empty right now.

Thornburywitch@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 363d (1 reply)

So sorry for you and your fam. So devastating to lose one so young.

MeanElevator@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 363d

Thanks. Reality hit this morning when she wasn't waiting at our bedroom door for her regular hugs and room inspections.

We are gonna be in Reservoir tomorrow (for YL's nails). Where should we visit? Food & leisure. Where can we find the best chilli? Brunch, lunch? Bakery?

Got a decent sleep!!!!

Mild headache from sleeping like a clown but eh I'll take what I can get.

No gym today. It's the last weekday of freedom before I lock into study and the full job hunt next week. Yeeha.

Edit: slept even more after breakfast. Might keep it up for a few more hours.

Eeeeek I hope you enjoy it!

What should I make with this pile of diced goat? Not jerk/Jamaican curry. Has bones so not pie suitable.

SaneMartigan@aussie.zone · 5 pts · 363d (2 replies)

You could stew it to get the bones out then make pie.

Thornburywitch@aussie.zone · 4 pts · 363d

Second this.

Catfish@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 363d

I could, but expect to be coated in paint much of the day.

Slow cooked indian curry like this

Goat slaps when cooked and seasoned right.

Catfish@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 363d (11 replies)

That looks promising. Am def a cardamom fan.

MeanElevator@aussie.zone · 4 pts · 363d (10 replies)

'Sweetish' spices work really well with goat. Birria tacos use goat and cinnamon. You're going to feast like a medieval royal.

Catfish@aussie.zone · 4 pts · 363d (9 replies)

Ha! Medieval cookery is actually a thing of mine. Some [ingredient], enough, until it be done. Fuck your scales & thermometers!

MeanElevator@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 363d (8 replies)

Oh yeah, throw things into a pressure/slow cooker (or cauldron if at hand), let the ingredients dance and get to know each other and serve with crusty bread of some sort.

Quaff some ale or mead after for full effect.

Catfish@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 363d (7 replies)

underwatermagpies@aussie.zone · 5 pts · 363d (5 replies)

My predecessor at work has cracked the shits because I wouldn't let her "just log on and do a few quick things". Sweetheart, you don't work here anymore. And your bookmarks and passwords aren't magically still saved in the computer.

Seagoon_@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 363d (4 replies)

What quick things could she possibly want to do?

underwatermagpies@aussie.zone · 7 pts · 363d (3 replies)

Apparently some licensing stuff she doesn't trust me with. Which she's no longer authorised to do and which isn't her problem.

Honestly, she's retired, I get that change is hard, but she needs a hobby or something. Move on. Read a book.

Iโ€™ve stopped donating to the food pantry because money has got tighter (pensioner and cat getting sicker) and the local drop off point has closed.

oh gees, I just finished watching the exsoviet video , he loves his people and country, he cried

now I'm crying

as some who has tried to help, who knows people who helped and are still helping,

it's just so very hard to help, to do anything

all i can do is send everyday help to everyday people, and maybe that little bit of help will give people the knowledge there are others who are there, they are not alone, give them help so they are aren't so stressed about money, and maybe that will help them have the strength to help themselves in the ways they know to be effective

world is such a hard place ๐Ÿ˜ข I just don't understand it at all
