Ah my nemesis has shown themself

Complete display of failure on the part of the KDE developers for not calling it "Klock" or something similar

kautau@lemmy.world · 51 pts · 359d

Yeah those devs used to be Konquerors

artiman@piefed.social · 96 pts · 359d

checkmate the repo name is kclock https://invent.kde.org/utilities/kclock

lemmydividebyzero@reddthat.com · 81 pts · 359d (2 replies)

KDE Plasma - The only OS UI where sorting apps alphabetically is pretty useless.

Capricorn_Geriatric@lemmy.world · 35 pts · 359d

If you want systems utilities, no need to look at the entire app list or a special exception for the sort! Just go look into the K area instead. A few other apps may invade the space, but all your system apps are gonna be in one place!

dontmindmehere@programming.dev · 1 pts · 357d

I thought most DEs gave apps generic names on their .desktop these days? gedit -> text editor, file-roller -> archive manager, baobab -> disk usage analyzer, etc.

maybe just a Mint thing, I actually used to struggle to find the actual name of an app there

bent@feddit.dk · 57 pts · 359d (9 replies)

Should be Klokk tbh.

whosepoopisonmybutt@sh.itjust.works · 92 pts · 359d (8 replies)

Its never wise to put that many k's that close together.

In Germany we have the same thing with S’s, that’s why we invented ß

„Fitnessstudio“

Pechente@feddit.org · 10 pts · 359d (1 reply)

I propose that we change it to Fitneßßtudio just to be safe.

alezyn@feddit.org · 5 pts · 359d

Next thing you know they’ll do 10 minutes on the “Marschband” for warm up and then 3 sets of “Armheben”.

idiomaddict@lemmy.world · 6 pts · 359d

Three is okay, that’s just a snake.

That's just how you write "clock" in Norwegian (klokke)

gaybriel_fr_br@jlai.lu · 2 pts · 359d

Unless you're Brazilian.

Zier@fedia.io · 43 pts · 359d

That's krazy. That kant be legal. All KDE must be Kool branded.

kadup@lemmy.world · 32 pts · 359d (2 replies)

While I love the fun of having a pattern like that... It's actually kinda dumb (with all due respect) that KDE had a naming convention of starting every app with K, and at the same time, a standard app menu that lists applications alphabetically.

Which means if you install a standard, expected "clean" version of KDE Plasma and it's default apps, the alphabetical sorting is almost useless yet it's the primary UX element of the most important menu in the interface.

Still love KDE though.

kureta@lemmy.ml · 11 pts · 359d

Never thought of it like that. You're right.

zeca@lemmy.ml · 5 pts · 358d

Besides, the search from klauncher should probably show kalendar if i type calendar, its a bit annoying to have to remember these alternative spellings

abbotsbury@lemmy.world · 31 pts · 359d (2 replies)

It's okay, GNOME picked up the slack with Galculator

I hate how some modern apps are just misspelled words.

Kolanaki@pawb.social · 11 pts · 359d (3 replies)

Like Google instead of "googol?"

aliser@lemmy.world · -6 pts · 359d (2 replies)

like Konsole. Google existed since forever and I doubt much people use or even know what "googol' is.

APF@discuss.tchncs.de · 13 pts · 358d

Konsole is just console in german

Revan343@lemmy.ca · 11 pts · 359d

Lol, Konsole is only a couple years younger than Google

lobut@lemmy.ca · 13 pts · 359d

I remember using KDE back in the day and that so many applications started with K that using the start menu to look for my application was jarring.

zarkanian@sh.itjust.works · 9 pts · 359d

I'm disappointed.

normalexit@lemmy.world · 8 pts · 359d

Recently switched to kde, and I've been enjoying it. The hardest part is the app names.

SpiceDealer@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 4 pts · 359d (3 replies)

Unrelated but what fediverse social is this?

Ludrol@szmer.info · 6 pts · 358d (1 reply)

Screenshot was made in app.wafrn.net

Dreaming_Novaling@lemmy.zip · 3 pts · 358d

God I hope wafrn takes off in a few years, I wanna leave Tumblr. Also got a silly email being shamed by the devs for not interacting much after my initial joining 😅
