Frog species with rough skin texture due to wart-like parotoid glands tend to be called toads, but the distinction between frogs and toads is informal and purely cosmetic, not from taxonomy or evolutionary history.
If you hadn’t been messing with the frogs, OP, you wouldn’t have gotten corrected like that. Now apologize to the frogs and stop worrying about others’ sexuality.

I mean, it was one of these types of perfectly round angry little froggy guys. Common rain frog or the common sand frog most likely.
