- Poland says it shot down drone-like objects which violated its airspace during a Russian attack on Ukraine
- This marks the first time a member of the Nato military alliance has directly engaged Russian assets in its airspace since the Ukraine war started in 2022
- Poland's president will soon be chairing a National Security briefing with key officials
- The Polish PM says the operation is "ongoing" and he is in contact with the Nato chief; he will also be conducting an extraordinary cabinet meeting in an hour
- The Polish military says the incident is an "unprecedented violation of Polish airspace", an "act of aggression that posed a real threat to the safety of our citizens"
- Citizens in three regions along the border with Ukraine, including Mazowieckie where the capital Warsaw is located, have been urged to stay home and shelter
- Operations at four airports have also paused, with the country's major air hub Chopin airport in Warsaw saying that airspace over the country has been shut

Clearly, this unprovoked attack against Russia must be answered with force. /s

This is what .ml actually believe.
mrbutterscotch@feddit.org · 21 pts · 351d
Do we know why this is? Is the ml Instance located in Russia or something? Because my God some of their views and takes are wild
EldritchFeminity@lemmy.blahaj.zone · 22 pts · 351d
Because the ml stands for Marxist-Leninist. They live in a world of communist theory where nobody but capitalist pig-dogs suffer.
Quittenbrot@feddit.org · 31 pts · 351d
With a very big emphasis on "theory". They somehow got so consumed by their theories that they now live in a parellel reality - or they don't actually believe what they say, I can't tell.
LePoisson@lemmy.world · 21 pts · 351d
I wouldn't even say that live in a world of communist theory because a lot of their egregious takes are contrary to actual theory, Marxist-Leninist slant or not.
I'd just say they live in alternate reality land.
EldritchFeminity@lemmy.blahaj.zone · 2 pts · 350d
The ones that I've had any negative interaction with in regards to anything related to politics have always quoted theory at me and told me that if I just read some theory, I'd agree with them.
I honestly haven't cared enough to see if theory actually agrees with them or if they're like those Christian extremists who believe that the Bible says to hate minorities.
mrbutterscotch@feddit.org · 1 pts · 351d
Ah I didn't know that... That does explain a few things lol
EldritchFeminity@lemmy.blahaj.zone · 3 pts · 350d
Yeah, the creators of Lemmy are communists of some form (I don't remember exactly), and the older instances are largely groups of like-minded people, some egregious and some not. The most intolerable of the instances have been defederated from the rest of the instances, so they can't interact with the rest of Lemmy. ML is probably the most mild of the bunch and is largely just one of the big instances full of memes and such, but you'll occasionally see why they use the .ml address flare up in threads.
mrbutterscotch@feddit.org · 1 pts · 350d
Oh wow, thats super interesting to know! But seeing some of the ML takes does make me wonder how extreme those defederated instances must have been.
Psythik@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 350d
Where are they from, though? They speak perfect English but they're clearly not American nor European.
EldritchFeminity@lemmy.blahaj.zone · 4 pts · 350d
All over the world I believe. The US, Europe, South America, Canada. The ones that I've seen talk about this sort of stuff seem like they could be from just about anywhere except for China or Russia. They talk about those countries the way that somebody outside looking in on a culture would, not in a way that somebody with firsthand experience living in a place would, if that makes sense.

"/s" isn't 4chan slang, it's generic forum slang that existed before 4chan. It's a shortened version of XML-style closing tag.

This is hilarious. I'm picturing some old person just sitting behind their screen screaming. A real old man yells at clouds vibes.

Old people actually know what /s means. I'm pretty certain this is somebody who's probably brand new to the internet and slightly new to the world.

Well, first of all, it's old people slang at this point.
And second, I don't understand your outburst. You're free to start a serious thread about criticizing Russia's rhetoric, right next to the sarcastic thread that is criticizing Russia's rhetoric.

I get your point but I don't think Russia recreating the first acts of WWII on a NATO country can be dismissed as a 'distraction' from many real world events short of actual official world war 3, or Putin being arrested or something.
There is also a strong argument that illegally invading a country is always quite a significant event, certainly to the people in that country.

Pretty close to Warsaw too. Look for Lublin, then Lviv and Lutsk in the bottom right. The stretch of border between Lublin and Lutsk is where it all happened:
SabinStargem@lemmy.today · -7 pts · 351d
I hope that Poland and the rest of Europe just declares war on Russia already. Putin is going to be a thorn for decades to come, and would likely spit-roast Europe with Fascist America if allowed to fester.
Should there be a WW3 due to Dogey American aggression, it would be best if Russia is a footnote in that history book.
moubliezpas@lemmy.world · 14 pts · 351d
Yeah, but most of us have this funny idea that war is a bad thing and we don't want to do it again.
I'm pretty sure there are enough 'pro-war, show those bad guys who's boss! We ain't no pussies' people to form a formidably large army, though, which seems like a win-win for everyone.
Those who want war can go ahead. Everyone else can continue what we've put so much effort into for the last 100 years or so. And all the 'big fan of war as long as it's happening to somebody else' people can choose to be very quiet, or shipped off to the front lines.
I suspect the internet would suddenly take a very pacifist turn.
Quittenbrot@feddit.org · 11 pts · 351d
It isn't about showing a bad guy who's boss. It is showing a bad guy that you won't accept the aggression anymore. I'm not pro war against Russia at all, but I'm also pro showing Russia that aggression will have severe consequences and hence should be stopped.

Bullies tend to keep doing what they do, until they get a bloody nose. It sucks that being mean is often a solution to that problem. 😒
ShoeThrower@lemmy.zip · 5 pts · 351d
Yeah, because famously, war only affects those on the front lines. FFS.

For my part, I am learning how to shoot and maintain a shotgun, because I don't expect to be peace in my time. I don't like to spend the time, money, and effort, nor worry about the results of battle, but I don't expect the Trump Regime to peacefully back down. I am very likely to be sent to one of RFK's wellness camps, and will prefer to die as a person, not as a prisoner.
Peace is good, but that desire shouldn't be a blinder to the reality of a situation. Russia will keep bullying Europeans, if you let it.
