So if I became the Director General of Police for India, I should just wear whatever I want? In my culture, slacks and a pollo is pretty formal, so I should just run a state police force while looking like I’m on a golf outing?
Ok, so I think this is a pretty inflammatory take. As a visible minority, I find being called "a non-white" a little dehumanizing. Despite acting like an ally, you're diminishing a group's (one that you may belong to or not) sense of agency.
I think the world would be more interesting if there wasn't a single standard for formal wear. But I'm not going to berate or diminish anyone for choosing to wear a certain style of clothes.

In fairness to Patel (which is a phrase I NEVER thought I'd type!) I thought the phrasing he used was that a "person of interest" was "in custody", which was technically true at the time?

Honestly, he wasn't even BSing. He just wasn't bothering to validate information to the degree he should before issuing statements.
That's not great by normal standards, but by Trump administration messaging standards, I'd say that this is probably above average.
Compare this to the stuff that Trump puts out on either social media or on the White House website.
