The guilds should strike immediately if they're worth a damn

Yuuuuppp. Show actual solidarity by shutting down entertainment. Make the IATSE workers shut down live music and make Equity shut down Broadway.
Serinus@lemmy.world · 38 pts · 357d
Please. And Colbert too.
It doesn't matter if they have backup plans. It doesn't matter what the two of them decide to do 18 months from now. For now, this behavior from these media companies and our government needs to be stopped and reversed.

IA can shutdown lots of stuff...kiss stage good by...kiss live sports good-bye
Alloi@lemmy.world · 5 pts · 356d
IATSE could shut down virtually all film that isnt union based.
(im a member, and we've already been suggesting it to our local)

No one should. It’s absolute nonsense and an attack on your complete and total rights.
drcobaltjedi@programming.dev · 73 pts · 357d
Theres a boycott going on right now against disney. Cancel your hulu, disney+, and espn and cite kimmle as your reason for canceling. Let them know doing this will hurt their wallet.

They need to pressure them to break ties with Nexstar and Sinclair. Until then I won't look at any thing they produce.
Eldritch@piefed.world · 14 pts · 357d
Nexstar and Sinclair have wealthy backers and aren't worried about profitability. They're basically the equivalent of ML state media at this point. Truth is irrelevant, messaging for the rulers is their sole purpose. To keep the proletariat misinformed and placated.
Even Disney ultimately doesn't care. They'll just toss ABC aside if it falters. Affiliates are everything to ABCs survival. They can't win. But they can no longer go out with dignity either.

I hope this is a start of a trend.
dylanmorgan@slrpnk.net · 14 pts · 357d
That might carry some weight, unlike JJ Abrams making the same statement.

I'm not American but isn't the SAG/AFTRA union pretty strong over there?
TheOneCurly@feddit.online · 10 pts · 356d
I don't know the exact specifics of this contract but generally you can avoid union firing rules by completely shutting the workplace down. They didn't just replace him, they killed the whole show.
ristoril_zip@lemmy.zip · 8 pts · 356d
yeah this is how you do it.
like I suppose it's possible for enough Disney customers to cancel this or that to put pressure on, but if like b Kevin Feige and all the Marvel people and all the Star Wars people and the others just refused to work - and I'm talking the rich ones not the hourly guys (not saying they can't join in) - I think it would put pressure on in a very effective way. Way more effective than some welder in Omaha canceling his Hulu+.
Hector@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 356d
Yeah they can pretend any show doesn't make that much actual money, but when the majority of the people bringing in the customers stop producing anything they will have to acknowledge the reality. If they want all Administration thralls by all means let them produce all of these TV shows and movies. As if
whome@discuss.tchncs.de · 5 pts · 356d
They need to unionize if a large group of producers, directors, and actors act in unison this would have much more weight. Great stance though

What's up Brother!
SaveTheTuaHawk@lemmy.ca · 2 pts · 356d
Does this matter? Hollywood produces mostly garbage and people will watch anything.

I didn’t care much for Kimmel, but I actively avoid anything Lindelof touches. Fuck that guy.
ech@lemmy.ca · 29 pts · 357d
Far from the point.
acosmichippo@lemmy.world · 7 pts · 357d
why? he had made a few really good shows.
sigmaklimgrindset@sopuli.xyz · 6 pts · 357d
Missing out, the HBO Watchmen series is fantastic.
LuigiMaoFrance@lemmy.ml · 3 pts · 356d
i don't care for him either but sometimes it's best to just shut up and keep scrolling
clover@slrpnk.net · -31 pts · 357d
Win-win, lost was ass, but his goals are laudable.
Stillwater@sh.itjust.works · 17 pts · 357d
One of the greatest TV shows of all time
acosmichippo@lemmy.world · 5 pts · 357d
leftovers and watchmen are also Lindeloff shows. Mrs Davis was interesting and had some potential but was unfortunately cancelled after one season.
the guy’s movies are almost all bad but his show creations seem to work for some reason.
Serinus@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 357d
Interesting. I've always sold Leftovers as "better Lost". I didn't realize the actual connection.

Blackmist@feddit.uk · 5 pts · 356d
Lost sits with Heroes in the pile of shows that if they were cancelled after one season would be held in the same high esteem as Firefly.
But they weren't, so they're not.
And to balance that, if there were five seasons of Firefly, nobody would give a shit about that now either.
svcg@lemmy.blahaj.zone · 1 pts · 356d
You don't know that Firefly wouldn't have been good. Buffy got seven seasons and people still like it. People who can overlook Joss Whedon's current reputation, at least.

Lol. "They all died and it was purgatory". Yeah, great work there fellas. That show is why I don't watch shows anymore.
