Today is a seasol day. Yesterday was a dynamic lifter day. Drastically underestimated the amount of dynamic lifter but I suppose that's not a bad thing because of the smell. Will do it in batches.
Parsley is having a good ol' time:
And the habanero / thai cross proved to be a very good tree to overwinter. Half the taste of habs but still hot af. Never stopped fruiting over winter (and lost very few leaves). Heaps of buds coming along so looks like early chillies this year.
Also heading to a gig tonight for the first time in ages. Will be more on the milder side of things so interesting to see what sort of crowd. At any rate looks like a lot of people are going (for that type of music lol) which is good to see.
That's looking pretty good, I'm a touch jealous of anyone who has actual plants at the moment.
I'm planning to use Rooster Booster instead of Dynamic Lifter, then add a bit extra Nitrogen around the leafy crops (probably blood and bone). Maybe some Charlie Carp pellets around the natives.
I've been enjoying the WuโTang Clan - Black Samson the Bastard Swordsman album while making chilli oil, mowing and roasting capsicums. Got that funky NY hiphop beat. e: If you're looking for something new.
Goodnight everyone. After possibly one of the most mediocre falafels I've ever eaten, I'm going to bed because I am utterly knackered. Will probably say hi to some of you at 2am-ish lol.
I was too tired/lazy to cook and most in the house wanted kebab for dinner, but I chose falafel instead. It came in a sectioned tray like an IKEA meal, four falafel and a feeble salad (the same salad spread out over the two smaller sections of the tray lol) with chunks of bread in a separate bag and two tiny tubs of dips. One dip was barely passable red capsicum and the other was an attempt at baba ghanouj which looked like the substance squeezed from a smokers lungs in a tv commercial from the 80s and tasted even worse. In all, a pathetic effort.
Wind is absolutely wild out there. It's recycling bin day and there are so many boxes and things blowing around the streets it's crazy. I definitely won't be doing any gardening today. I could try washing my sheets, they would either blow dry in 10 minutes or get caught by the wind and end up down the street in the dam.
I'm waiting until tomorrow to reply so they can't be like "oops I meant next Friday not Thursday", so I get another weekend ๐
Edit: ok wait. So they told me it will be next Thursday, on Friday morning. That isn't seven days is it?
Edit 2: seven days after 10am Friday is 10am Friday - not 10am Thursday. I must be right
I mean, they could view it as bad publicity is still publicity, but it's total madness that that disgrace can stand there and say things like that with zero proof and people cheer. I wonder if it's had any +/- effect on their sales.
It's time for a windy morning dog walk. Mr Woof always looks so sleek and streamlined with a headwind, then we turn around and get a tailwind and he looks like a complete mess. Wind creating a part around the butt hole is never an attractive look. ๐จ๐
I really felt it on the last stretch of the ride to work. They're still building out this industrial area so one part is just a massive open field with a road going through it and I copped the full headwind.
I feel like a headwind might be better than a side wind when riding, it makes for harder work but doesn't impact balance as much.
I'm on the edge of a new estate which is surrounded by open fields on three sides and still has a lot of vacant blocks and very little vegetation, so the wind gets extra wild through here too.
I have practically no tidying of cupboards and drawers to do, which is the Fri morning task. I'm already pretty well organised in that regard. Garage is another question but even that is pretty good. That leaves ordinary daily upkeep, a little bit of gardening and afternoons are free. ๐
Last day of work before a week of leave. Not going anywhere, just chillin' and doing local shit. Might extend into 2 weeks (I have so much leave accrued).
Pretty much finished my tasks as well, but have to hang around online to be 'available' should any questions arise.
Edit: Maybe Iโll try a quarter tablet of Restavit tonight right after Melbcatโs midnight meds. Enough to try and drop off without so much drowsiness the next day
I tend to use the windows key and full stop. Limited selection of emojis, but it works on everything. Never had an issue with colour changes either. But then, I don't do stuff on my phone much.
Many years ago (ok, decades ago) I replicated a coffee and date loaf I got from Baker's Delight. I haven't made one for a very long time and can't remember exactly what I put in it, but I'm going to attempt to recreate it again today. It should add a bit of variety instead of always doing a standard fruit loaf.
I might do a small white loaf too and a couple of pizza bases. I could do pizza for dinner tonight and lunch tomorrow.
Basement: tiled, loose dirt bondcrete sprayed, organised. Brewery: de-lead painted, cleaned, new vwnts ordered and hopefully arriving today so we can fit before painting. Need to organise sparky to replace a socket with a four gang and a plumber to disconnect old brewery plumbbng and separate from kitchen.
What i plan to do this weekend will be both fuck and all.
::: spoiler The Superdeep (2020) - 3.5/5 Hobbits
A Russian sci-fi horror about a researcher and a group of soldiers investigating a disease outbreak at Kola Superdeep which, in universe, is the location of a secret Russian lab 12km underground.
Suspend disbelief, it's a fun ride! I thoroughly enjoyed the main protag being a very intelligent woman. She's a badass. There were times where I was annoyed that they know there's a disease, she's an epidemiologist, but doesn't mask up when she should. However, being very reminiscent of western sci-fi/horror films of the 2000s and 2010s, I just decided it was fun instead, in the same way I love The Core (2003).
:::
::: spoiler The Endless (2017) - 4.5/5 Hobbits
A very interesting and engaging film about two brothers returning to the "doomsday" cult they escaped 10 years prior and realising that there maybe something more to it. Involving time-wimey weirdness, a very realistic portrayal of two brothers at odds with one another, and the past still lingering.
No jumpscares, no gratuitous gore, yet it scared me. I was engaged with the mystery throughout.
:::
::: spoiler The Cleansing Hour (2019) - 3/5 Hobbits
A group of people stage exorcisms to stream online (on a platform similar to Twitch I think). The "priest" is a phony, with his production crew staging all the effects. Takes a turn when they realise the fake exorcism isn't actually faked.
Touches on a bit of trauma regarding the main two protags, childhood friends, and their time at a Catholic school, but otherwise is just a fun take on exorcism movies, modernised with current day tech. It's a bit predictable, I called out a few plot points only 15 minutes in, but a silly ride nonetheless.
:::
Love these reviews, thank you!! I love reading about horror movies, but I'm terrible at watching them, too much of a fraidy cat. But I love to read the wikipedia plot and look at pictures, lol.
I'm somewhat picky about what I watch - I don't like anything that depicts SA or related issues for example.
If you're interested in "watching" horror films without actually watching them, these are the channels I watch on YouTube (so you won't see any gore due to YTs terms and conditions):
Ryan Hollinger (horror film reviewer)
Roanoke Gaming (he studied biology and discusses how horror film diseases could work irl)
Foundflix (reviewer who basically gives a detailed rundown of the plot of horror films)
For games and movies:
Mertkaykay (expect videos to be 1-2 hours long as she provides very detailed analyses)
Earlybird (similar to Mertkaykay, but discussed predominantly unknown, retro, and Japanese horror games/films)
Felt more productive today than the entire week combined, where I had permanent brain fog, tiredness and irritable mood. I'm blaming daylight savings for feeling off. Now to get blown away while getting some steps in and then relax ๐บ
I'm having a real case of recency bias with the band Geese. Their new album got recommended to me, I was getting them confused with the band Goose that has also recently put out an album, then they were talked about on a podcast I listen to, then I did listen to them, then I saw they're playing at the Croxton next year, and now Thornbury Records got the new album in stock.
I've been walking around muttering 'There's a bomb in my car' to myself the last couple of days. It's the sort of song lyric I'd put on Facebook with zero context back in 2009 and get no interactions.
The wind isn't pleasant, but it is very invigorating. It's been trying to blow my back fence over, it looks like all of the screws attaching the side fence to the back support have come out so the panel was starting to cave in under the wind pressure. It looks like it's had a previous repair already as there are few extra holes drilled. I've managed to get some more screws in (which was challenging with the wind still trying to blow it over) but I suspect they will work their way out too. When I get a day with less wind I'll put some rivets in, they should do a better job of holding.
I also braved the wind to put the mint into it's pot - it took the entire 25L bag of potting mix plus half a bag of compost, so it definitely should have room to stretch it's runners out in there.
Edit: it is so much quieter without the fence rattling too
dat feel when your boss hits you up at 4:56 on a friday asking for an update on an issue he has literally been emailed every goddamn step of.
My response was to just forward the last one back to him with reconvene next week bolded. To which of course he wants to know why. I point out the clients are saying that. "but why?" I do not know. fukken ask them. I charge overtime in minimum one hour blocks btw.
What smart watches are you all wearing and would you recommend? I've got a Galaxy 4 Classic and while I loved it, it doesn't track workouts very well and has started to just stop half tracking half way through, even if I'm still moving. Its battery life is also abysmal. Looking for something I can use to track rides, runs and swims.
I try to buy cheap petite smart watches with a metal strap and a magnetic charger. Mostly for step tracking. So many seem quite large and it puts me off.
I have a Garmin Venu. It's an old model now but it tracks everything you said and more. It pairs with Garmin Connect which has workouts and challenges on it too. I think they're up to Venu 4 now.
Could call your local council, they usually have an e-waste process. Call them to ask about a pillowed battery and if they accept it. If they don't accept it, they might be able to advise how to dispose of it.
Anecdotally, I've heard Battery World accepts them, but again, I'd call ahead to confirm.

Alrighty. Off to the in person interview shortly. Then the rest are either phone or teams.
Big day and Iโm rewarding myself with a pizza of some description after itโs all done

However, being very reminiscent of western sci-fi/horror films of the 2000s and 2010s, I just decided it was fun instead, in the same way I love The Core (2003). :::
::: spoiler The Endless (2017) - 4.5/5 Hobbits A very interesting and engaging film about two brothers returning to the "doomsday" cult they escaped 10 years prior and realising that there maybe something more to it. Involving time-wimey weirdness, a very realistic portrayal of two brothers at odds with one another, and the past still lingering.
No jumpscares, no gratuitous gore, yet it scared me. I was engaged with the mystery throughout. :::
::: spoiler The Cleansing Hour (2019) - 3/5 Hobbits A group of people stage exorcisms to stream online (on a platform similar to Twitch I think).

Love these reviews, thank you!! I love reading about horror movies, but I'm terrible at watching them, too much of a fraidy cat. But I love to read the wikipedia plot and look at pictures, lol.

I'm somewhat picky about what I watch - I don't like anything that depicts SA or related issues for example.
If you're interested in "watching" horror films without actually watching them, these are the channels I watch on YouTube (so you won't see any gore due to YTs terms and conditions):

I'm suddenly transported to 2009 where I would in fact post song lyrics without context ๐๐

SaneMartigan@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 316d
I try to buy cheap petite smart watches with a metal strap and a magnetic charger. Mostly for step tracking. So many seem quite large and it puts me off.

I have a Garmin Venu. It's an old model now but it tracks everything you said and more. It pairs with Garmin Connect which has workouts and challenges on it too. I think they're up to Venu 4 now.

Anyone know how to (safely) get rid of a phone battery that's swollen up into a "spicy pillow"?
!spicypillows@lemmy.world
It's apparently a fire risk, so it needs some kind of special handling โ I don't want to just drop it in a bin somewhere!
Catfish@aussie.zone · 5 pts · 316d
I took my phone to the repair shop in a lunch cooler bag and they dealt with it
StudChud@aussie.zone · 4 pts · 316d
Could call your local council, they usually have an e-waste process. Call them to ask about a pillowed battery and if they accept it. If they don't accept it, they might be able to advise how to dispose of it.
Anecdotally, I've heard Battery World accepts them, but again, I'd call ahead to confirm.
shiny_idea@aussie.zone · 4 pts · 316d
So, update after calling the local council:
The council rep said to drop it in their e-waste collection bin, next to the other mobile phones.
I'm not actually sure that is quite safe enough, honestly, but maybe these spicy pillows aren't as dangerous as I have been led to believe.
Seagoon_@aussie.zone · 4 pts · 316d
