im 37. i was diagnosed half a year ago with adhd. now i take medication and started to lurk in this community. i wanted to write "blasphemy" but i see i found a new home 😂 i feel seen
Pro tip. Study in 50 or 55 minute increments. Start at 5:05/5:00 and end at 5:55. Makes the time you dedicate feel significantly shorter (I mean it is by 5/10 minutes but you get my point) as it's in the same hour. It also fits the college class schedule style. Those 60 minute class timeslots always feel so much better than the 90 minute ones do.
I don't actually ever stop at the correct time. But actually starting it is the hardest part. Treating it like a quick class period helps me.
Nah, minutes have to be either a multiple of 5 or a power of two, ideally also a perfect square. Hours have to be an even number less than 10 but greater than 3. And not on a weekend, regional holiday, or day immediately preceding or succeeding either.
Aw Bean, do you have a diagnosis? I was pretty anti-stimulant at first, and have come around on them for this reason. I have a watch that vibrates an hour before I need to be up, take the stim, go back to sleep, and then waking up at my chosen time is easier. My sleep schedule rn is 4a - noon, so my watch buzzes at 11, the pill is in a ramiken, my water cup has a lid so I'm confident the water doesn't have anything in it, sometimes it's still cold. It has taken me 3 years to find a regiment to help wrest some control over my sleep schedule.
Aaah I wish it was studying!! I'm procrastinating on sending in the documents to finally drop out of University, gotta do it until the end of the month ugh (I've stayed signed up for the past 4 years just for the bus ticket and the good cafeteria food)
Maybe even on easy mode (5 or 10 min) to bootstart studying, let it ring once, nod at the pomodoro and keep in the flow.
Or.... if you felt a strong urge to not study in these 5 or 10 min, nod at the pomodoro and says "Thanks Cthullu I'm free from this time prison!" and move on.
I personally hate doing pauses with pomodoro, so I just use it to make sure I did at least one pomodoro unit of time of whatever the fuck I planned to do (But I do pause once I start hitting a wall or getting tired)

LordAmplifier@pawb.social · 11 pts · 320d
But if I start doing it at 5:37, I'll always have to do it at that exact time.
papalonian@lemmy.world · 5 pts · 320d
Correction: if I start at 5:37 I have to stop precisely at 6:37 to have studied for an hour. Much easier to start and stop at 6 and 7. Mhm.

As long as I can spend 23 minutes bitching about having to start at a weird time

Why 37.... probably because it's random

Otherwise how can I keep proper track of how long I've studied? All my statistics will be weird and wonky and wrong!

I’m still trying to get out of bed at a reasonable round number… studying? We are definitely building up to that.

Implementation intention can also be a good thing, though.
Starting at 6:00 is better than trying to force it "right now", failing, and doing nothing. Or exerting more willpower and pain than necessary.
