Hey, I’ll answer a question with a question:
why the fuck were you all so fucking hunky dory with being asleep at the switch in an obviously existentially fucking important juncture?

Because the grounds a Republican government takes on freedom, offers the same benefits to the Democrats. Then the Democrats can talk about caring and giving us half of what was lost and proclaim that as a win.
I would vote for which party benefits the people the best, which have been the Democrats for a really long time, but for a party considered liberal and progressive, I see them just as conservative as Republicans.

They're controlled opposition. They're supposed to look better, not be better.
IronBird@lemmy.world · 10 pts · 331d
they really got us with Obama, ngl.
that was slick

Yeah they're better but... Like they're the thinnest kid at fat camp.

The irony that OP discourages voting around Lemmy and now they are wondering why the opposition isn't as strong as it could be.
hark@lemmy.world · 10 pts · 330d
That's because the democrats are not much of an opposition and when they've been given votes, they don't do much with them, which is one reason why they have trouble getting those votes in the first place. They insist on catering to republican-lites (i.e. moderate fascists) and insist that when in power they should "work with" (i.e. bend over for) republicans.
Just take a look at the recent run with Harris: https://www.newsweek.com/kamala-harris-view-republican-cabinet-1965824
So she was fine with all the support for genocide, but thought we needed more republican influence in government. Even when democrats spell this out clearly, you insist that the problem is we're just not voting hard enough.

I think you should read my other comments here and in other places, but in short many like OP reject voting and are also wondering why they have no say in government after elections. Some engagement with the system is needed. I am saying we need our own party and to aim for local elections. I certainly hope you are aware that on election day there is more than one race happening or that there are other midterms. Blue no matter who should be a last resort.
Also can we not use Newsweek on Lemmy? It is a tabloid chasing vapid clicks.

I discourage voting for her and her party precisely for the reason she states, because they do not fight back.
The irony of you advocating for someone who does not fight back but only complains is funny.

The Biden presidency was lukewarm at best. He was status quo. He did not fight. He was uninspiring. He and his press secretary were part of the problem.

You're going to have to internalize the fact that "leftists" aren't the reason Kamala lost
The voters who voted for Biden and then stayed home for Kamala were boomers and older millennials, more specifically the white men/women and hispanic men from those age groups.

The only group which voted in the majority for Trump were white people. This is literally racist propaganda.
TempermentalAnomaly@lemmy.world · 7 pts · 330d
Only if you blame these groups for not turning out for Harris. If you lay the responsibility at the feet of the Harris organization and the DNC at large for being out of touch of the needs of their coalition, then that's not racist.
InternetCitizen2@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 330d
Its not, but that does not change the fact that we as leftists are ignoring this front on the class war and it is to our detriment.
SoftestSapphic@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 331d
Weird that I'm the only one who needs to back up their claims

"Our hands are tied! There is only so much we could do without having a majority in both of the houses and the executive. We have to reach across the aisle to make a compromise so that we move forward and make sure that some of our policies will get through. We may not be able to pass everything we want, but it is better than nothing. Perfect is the enemy of good.
Fuck you ordinary Americans! We don't care about you at all! You are not paying us enough, unlike the rich oligarchs who fund our campaign and lifestyle! We prefer to rub shoulders with our fellow rich politicians and donors from across the aisle. Oh stop whining, we're only going to give breadcrumbs so you stop crying, is that okay?"quick_snail@feddit.nl · 8 pts · 331d
Why not ask a progressive party?
InternetCitizen2@lemmy.world · 7 pts · 331d
That would mean electoral politics. Our fellow
.mllike OP do not believe we should even vote. All war is class war and elections are one front in the war. Too many lefties would rather keep their self perceived purity clean than take pragmatic moves to improve the material conditions of those who are often fighting in trenches. I'm referring to Palestinians and minorities being targeted. There are more elections than just president.
Fellow leftist don't want to form a party, nor vote for harm reduction. Our movement is a a home and part of that is due to the likes of OP demoralizing our organization. Neither do we seem a that interested in building a parallel economy so people can escape the clutches of capital.

"Why are Democrats not fighting back?"
Because that would be impolite. And if there's one thing these old, boring, corporatists HATE, it's being impolite. Biden could have locked these f*ckers up the second the Supreme Court said that presidents have Unlimited Powah and he chose not to do so.

Saw her on Colbert the other night. She seemed rather... devoted to her belief that Biden was great and never had a misstep. It was kind of disturbing actually.
