I think they're trying really hard to not translate the name of the practice to make it seem cooler or esoteric or something. But it literally translates to "stomach 8 10 percents" 😂

"Don't overeat" - Boring, stupid, OKAY DAD

食べすぎないで - Cool, Japanese, makes me feel like an anime character

"The meal isn't over when I'm full. The meal is over when I hate myself!"

Look man, I'm not going to the store to get more plastic wrap or aluminum foil, and I'm also not going to repackage this for the fridge, so what ever is left is going to be eaten so I don't have to clean it up or throw it out... And I don't like to throw out anything. My spouse got all did you eat the core of the Apple on me just one time before she realized it wasn't worth trying to convince me not to eat it lol.

Note: I don't make her eat anything, I just eat anything she doesn't want to save for later.

I definitely have the problem that if I try to eat until I'm 100% full, that it doesn't stop. Feels like my stomach is a bottomless pit. Meanwhile, my coworker eats like half a portion and then can't fit another bite.

The real issue here is Americans and many westerners have been binge eating disgusting processed junk since very early childhood.

Permanently damaging or even destroying their biological mechanisms for feeling full

This leads to a weird obsession with other cultures that contain knowledge and practices for eating in a particular manner

They are quite literally missing an upbringing where their culture and parents taught them to stop eating

Don't call someone an insult when they were just having a polite topical discussion

Toneswirly@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 276d (1 reply)

I dont consider what he said polite

gustofwind@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 276d

Not a he and you are the rude one

These are serious problems majorly affecting society. I doubt you would consider it polite if I posted research on childhood obesity and satiety or how this article directly relates to and reinforces new eating disorders

Only 1/3 of America is a healthy weight

1/3 is overweight 1/3 is obese

This is a manufactured problem stemming from unregulated foods and a profit driven free market.

I have personally seen way too many family and friends deliberately over-feed their children and sentence them to lifelong weight issues.

This problem will likely only be solved through medications because the food industry has completely won

Im only obese because I like getting vaccines /s

Argument from anecdote and some statistics on obesity do not make you an expert on American culture.

gustofwind@lemmy.world · 8 pts · 276d

You don’t need to be an expert on American culture to learn the verifiable facts around the food industry poisoning Americans for generations

Mods be crazy out here. Allow me to rephrase. If you think reading an article gives you enough insight in to a whole nation's people you are a severely cloistered and incurious person and should have some more empathy for your fellow man. Dont be THAT guy.

Mods be completely normal here. Removing your prior comment was my second action as a mod here in the past year plus. Don't be a dick. If you want to be a dick, you can go to gestures broadly to a wide swathe of the internet.
