Some context: This woman was trying to prohibit farmers from equipping their cows with bells, because she felt that they made too much noise. The population in this rural and traditional village did not like that, as they disliked people interfering with their traditions (especially since she was no swiss citizen). Some months later, she asked for naturalization, which was promptly denied by the popular vote in the village.
I could see an argument for the noise being detrimental to the cows and her trying to pick her battles in a Swiss cattle farming town. I guess she still didn’t hit the mark.
Its a proven fact that cow bells cause hearing loss in cows. But we do a lot worse stuff to animals, so IDK. Does the reduced chance of getting mauled by a predator make the hearing damage worth it?

She also had aggressive campaigns against hunting and pig racing. So basically she was against most of the major past times and cultural aspects of the town.
I agree that bells are annoying. That's why I don't live in a place with bells. Moving to a place with some traditions and trying to change those traditions is just shitty behaviour.
Can confirm, she was featured in a program about Swiss naturalisation that I watched the other day. There were plenty of other candidates who were trying to integrate that were much less annoying than her, yet they still were having difficulty. It doesn't surprise me one bit that they denied her.

I was once at my dad's birthday party and he invited like 20 boomer aged people. The food was pretty absurd. There were like 6 kinds of meat. And not much else. I was the only one there not eating anything, i kinda was just there to say hi, play with my niece and nephew and then bolt.
Oh the fun they had making jokes about vegans that evening.
You forget that they have few interests and little else in common than ragging on the next generation.
You could be inhaling a sausage scarf draped around your neck, and they'd still find fault with the car you drive, the money you spend on percieved frivolities, and anything that seperates you from them
The actual annoying people are the ones who complain about (often imaginary) annoying vegans. Same with the anti-apple crowd, they're 100 times more annoying than the people who they complain about. Same as people who call others snowflakes mostly being the actual snowflakes themselves.

I feel like you may be conflating my understanding of her non-acceptance into the community with being ok with animal cruelty.
I'm not and I don't think the cows should wear the bells.
I just think that as an outsider challenging deeply held cultural beliefs she shouldn't have expected to be welcomed as a citizen of that community.
It was an extremely unrealistic expectation to have.
