I have few things to say.

  • firstly I might be trippin but does your sysfetch say you have 17.4 Gb of RAM? HOW?
  • also I see you're using bash. at this point you might as well try zsh with omz.
  • and why VScode when already you are using neovim (or other terminal code editor)? If you reeeally need the ecosystem try Codium. I doesn't have all the exstenaions but if it has the one you need it is less bloated vscode (and gentoo users hate bloat)

also the setup is nice ig

grue@lemmy.world · 21 pts · 260d (2 replies)

bash is copyleft. zsh is permissive. Therefore, bash is superior.

alsaaas@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 8 pts · 260d (1 reply)

Fish is also GPL'ed

victorz@lemmy.world · 5 pts · 258d

Fish clear winner for it's simplicity and performance.

Cort@lemmy.world · 11 pts · 260d (3 replies)

igpu

My bet is they have 24GB total with 6GB dedicated to the iGPU.

hameru@cyberplace.social · 11 pts · 260d (2 replies)

@Cort @aqua_cat almost!
It's actually 20GB total with 2GB for the iGPU

Cort@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 260d (1 reply)

Darn it, that was my next guess. 4GB soldered + 16GB since it's a laptop with a U series chip?

hameru@cyberplace.social · 1 pts · 260d

@Cort Yeah exactly, I wish the other slot wasn't soldered to the board, then my total memory could be a nice power of two

I LOVE fish!

alsaaas@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 6 pts · 260d (5 replies)

Using bash is saner than any ZSH config out there, fish on the other hand is peak

hameru@cyberplace.social · 3 pts · 259d (1 reply)

@alsaaas @Gwen I've actually looked a bit into fish before, but didn't switch

does the lack of posix compliance not cause issues in practice? like, has it ever broke some script you wanted to run?

alsaaas@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 4 pts · 259d

It's its own language, but it doesn't break existing e.g. bash scripts because you declare them to be bash with #!/bin/bash in the first line right? So your shell doesn't matter. Also you can always nest shells and just run bash if you really need it

You just shouldn't set it as your login shell because of that, they have tutorials on that on their website and the Arch wiki explains it too

fushuan@lemmy.blahaj.zone · 1 pts · 259d (2 replies)

Uh, check zsh4humans. It is basically fish, but with powerlevel10k terminal skin which is blazing fast.

alsaaas@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 2 pts · 258d (1 reply)

Thanks, but I like my sane defaults Rust shell and as a scripting lang, fish is also really nice

victorz@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 258d

+1 for scripting with fish. Reduced the LOC in my scripts collection by probably 50%, while increasing legibility/maintainability by probably at least 100%. Absolute beast of a lang.

e0qdk@reddthat.com · 12 pts · 259d (1 reply)

Is that... Hatsune Miku modded into Mario 64?

hameru@cyberplace.social · 14 pts · 259d

@e0qdk YES!

It's the triple baka pack for sm64coopdx, and it's the best thing I discovered this month, it even has online multiplayer.

Screenshot of modded multiplayer Super Mario 64, showing 3 players as Hatsune Miku, Kasane Teto and Akita Neru in front of the main castle. The nametags are blurred for privacy.

Nice Setup and Picture and also the lighting!

Seriously though, how do you take such pictures? I tried and failed multiple times already. Too dark, bad angles, blinding lights, you name it.

hameru@cyberplace.social · 3 pts · 260d (2 replies)

@VegOwOtenks tysm!

lol I guess when you take 50+ different pics you're bound to get some good ones

if you actually want the details, my friend was holding the camera behind me to get this angle, we also turned off the lights, so the screens appeared brighter, and used only a star projector thingy for the faint purple glow

HakunaHafada@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 2 pts · 260d (1 reply)

I think the downward-facing light bar at the top of your monitor is the real key here, illuminating your desk and all the things on it, socks included.

hameru@cyberplace.social · 1 pts · 260d

@HakunaHafada True, at first I thought the white light bar would just make everything seem kinda washed out, but I guess it actually works really well.

KSPAtlas@sopuli.xyz · 8 pts · 259d (3 replies)

yooo Niko oneshot

Curious, do you just play The World Machine edition or do you use some kind of setup to play Oneshot

hameru@cyberplace.social · 3 pts · 259d (2 replies)

@KSPAtlas niko oneshot mentioned!

It's actually been some years since I finished that game, I was still using windows back then so I played the original steam version.

I'm pretty sure some puzzles would break in a window manager only setup, I mean, I don't even have a "Desktop" directory now, but I vaguely remember it working on KDE, so it's probably not impossible to fix.

KSPAtlas@sopuli.xyz · 2 pts · 259d (1 reply)

Have you done the clover after finishing the game thing?

hameru@cyberplace.social · 1 pts · 259d

@KSPAtlas You mean the solstice ending? If so then yeah, it's absolute cinema.

What else do we have in common?

hameru@cyberplace.social · 0 pts · 258d (1 reply)

@msage small world indeed!

and hmm I'm not sure, do you also like weird music?

msage@programming.dev · 1 pts · 258d

Alright, now you have to send me some songs.

I do like all kinds of music, from alternative to death metal and everything between, if it's a good song.

Do you play games? PC or tabletop?

Sivecano@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 6 pts · 259d (3 replies)

What's that tiler?

Low-key jealous of you having so many windows on a big screen.

recklessengagement@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 259d

Fr. This post just connected two neurons in my head about what tilers are capable of

mechanikate@lemmy.blahaj.zone · 1 pts · 258d (1 reply)

looks like bspwm on X11 from the fastfetch output

hameru@cyberplace.social · 2 pts · 258d

@mechanikate @Sivecano yep, it's bspwm!

idk why my other reply saying that hasn't appeared on lemmy, federation is weird sometimes, hopefully this one will go through

Zoomboingding@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 259d (1 reply)

I'm pretty vanilla with Arch on my regular work Laptop but I definitely love tinkering with Gentoo... Maybe it is time though for a primary GentOwO machine tho...

hameru@cyberplace.social · 2 pts · 258d (1 reply)

@pineapplelover instant, but there's a cool mahou shoujo transformation sequence when it happens

pineapplelover@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 2 pts · 258d

YESSS!! :3

fushuan@lemmy.blahaj.zone · 1 pts · 259d (1 reply)

Presumably you didn't know that hifetch exists, you can backend it via fastfetch to make it fast. The big plus is that you can give it flag colours.

hameru@cyberplace.social · 2 pts · 258d

@fushuan oh it's even on the official repo, I'm gonna emerge it right now, thx for the recommendation!

Nice post! We definitely need more content in this community (and in Lemmy as a whole as well)

You look great OP! Cute and cozy.

hameru@cyberplace.social · 1 pts · 258d

@beSyl thx <3

100% agree btw, seeing the unixsocks community go more than a month with no new content is what compelled me to finally make an account and post

VaporVenger@retro-gaiden.com · 1 pts · 255d (5 replies)

@hameru @unixsocks also how do you game with all the other stuff taking up screen space?! :guilded_lul: if i have a screen like that i want to get the most out of it playing retro games or video games in general

hameru@cyberplace.social · 1 pts · 255d (4 replies)

@VaporVenger @unixsocks oh I don't actually play like that, I just opened some programs to add a bit of personality to the screen and show off my window manager >_<

VaporVenger@retro-gaiden.com · 1 pts · 255d

@hameru @unixsocks ah I see now, got it, yeah it does add a bit of flee to the screen

QuinnyCoded@sh.itjust.works · 1 pts · 250d (2 replies)
