just a note: they don’t hunt humans. they are opportunistic and will include humans in their food supply if necessary. polar bears typically avoid people like other bears.

kingofthezyx@lemmy.zip · 21 pts · 245d (3 replies)

Yeah this one certainly doesn't look like it's hunting at all - not saying it wouldn't attack him if it could get to him, but it seems a lot more curious than aggressive.

PeriodicallyPedantic@lemmy.ca · 2 pts · 245d (2 replies)

How do the two different in appearance, in polar bears?

Dashi@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 244d (1 reply)

Angry growl vs questioning growl. Two totally different growls. I'm sure there is a community around here that could go into more detail for you.

PeriodicallyPedantic@lemmy.ca · 2 pts · 244d

I remain skeptical. At the risk of anthropomorphizing, why would a hunting bear be "angry"?
As the dude in the video says, this is more or less what they do with seals.

NotMyOldRedditName@lemmy.world · 5 pts · 245d

With such scarce food up there, isn't it always a good time to eat if it's just a single human?

realitista@lemmus.org · 53 pts · 245d (3 replies)

Oh look a fresh human, no one has even opened his packaging yet!

Rentlar@lemmy.ca · 35 pts · 245d

Puts human in bear habitat, gets surprised the bear shows interest. Calls it "bear hunting human".

Lols.

Lommy@lemmy.world · 10 pts · 245d

Yeah, it kinda made me feel bad. It's probably hungry af and thought it finally found some food. As i recall it's not that easy to find for them.

DNU@lemmy.world · 13 pts · 245d

Just look at how adorable he is!

Nastybutler@lemmy.world · 11 pts · 245d

The bear should just sleep next to it. The guy has to come out sometime.

thefluffiest@feddit.nl · 11 pts · 245d

He’s just here for the cuddles. Stop scaring people

WHY ARE THEY SO CUTE THEN?

elvis_depresley@sh.itjust.works · 2 pts · 244d (1 reply)

I think it's because they have no facial muscles, so they can't show emotion through facial expressions.

somegeek@programming.dev · 1 pts · 243d

Nah their body language, shape, white fur and button eyes, paws, everything about them is cute

skooma_king@piefed.social · 5 pts · 245d (1 reply)

Do you have any snacks?

Any games on your phone? 👉👈🥺

Avicenna@programming.dev · 5 pts · 245d (4 replies)

I don't know, that bear just wasted quite a bit of energy in an environment where it really matters.

Skankhunt420@sh.itjust.works · 1 pts · 245d (3 replies)

True, but would you have rather him killed and eaten the guy in the box?

Avicenna@programming.dev · 1 pts · 245d (2 replies)

I was more like why is the guy there. Because I don't know the answer can't make a definitive judgement on the case. If it was just to watch a bear struggle with a cage yea fuck that. If it was to document something that is undocumentable in any other way, that is more respectable.

Quetzalcutlass@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 245d (1 reply)

He'd set up to film near a hole in the ice where seals pop up to take a breath, but the polar bear took an interest in him instead.

Avicenna@programming.dev · 2 pts · 244d

thanks in that case yea bad luck, glad he was in a cage
