Bufo alvaruis. The Sonoran desert toad that excretes dmt. Hamilton Morris did a couple episodes on them. They are being hunted to dangerously low levels and thats why hes a fan of synthesized dmt
I mean, these don't seem all that weird, especially since this is the kinda thing people smalltalk about. Honestly as long as they know how to vet what they are reading, they can learn alot.
For toads in cold climates, they do. Not counting rare exceptions, all 'cold-blooded' animals have to hibernate or go into warm places (like some spiders come indoors in autumn) to survive through the winter.
I do wonder if this isn't where the whole "kiss a toad and he turns to a prince" thing comes from, someone kissing a psychedelic toad and then just hallucinating the rest?
send me a picture of the frog and I'll do a quick diagnosis. you might want to bring him into the vet if the effects continue for multiple days. if he's having trouble jumping, drinking, walking, or going to the litterbox, then you want to watch him closely. also don't feed him much.
Haha, bless you for being concerned but this was months ago. He got back out there killing things less than an hour later so must have only had a half lick.

Probably people who live near the natural habitat of the Sonoran Desert toad.
stiffyGlitch@lemmy.world · 6 pts · 280d
true. these toads are known to secrete a toxin called bufotenin which can lead to hallucinations and even death.

There’s 5-MeO-DMT in them there toads, as well.

some toads, frogs, salamanders and turtles freeze themselves in water. but scientifically, they cannot hibernate.

I fear I contributed to this as I woke up to a frog on my pillow and my idiot black cat staring off into nothingness for 30 minutes.
I've done enough drugs to know he's high af but needed to check!

NPR has this wonderful story about a dog who loved to suck on toads. Like, crying laughing.

Where do toads go during the day? Toad work? /j
stiffyGlitch@lemmy.world · 0 pts · 279d
typically they burrow themselves in leaf litter, dirt, hay, or a bed of pebbles. most toads are nocturnal, so you won't see them much during the day.
