(SFF) Best movie to watch with family

Looking for a list of SFF (safe for family) movies that are high production quality with little to no spicy scenes and hints etc...

I know there has to be some, but I'm not asking for a recommendation like home alone or the lorax etc

I am looking for a good SFF movies like for example: The trueman show Pursuit of happiness Etc

I'm open to new genres so feel free to suggest what SFF movies you enjoy, don't be a lurker

Ohh boy, my time to shine. I'll try to break it down based on safeness. I'll avoid listing some obvious ones, like main Disney movies. There may be some spoilers in my notes. Also "suggestive" may be more accurate as level of awkwardness. And everything is my opinion.

As safe as can be:

Arrival (while the military is involved I don't recall there being any violence)
Brewster's Millions
Cars
Cast Away (there's the part where he's testing out hanging himself but IIRC it's not explained, you'd have to already know what he's trying to do)
Confessions of a Shopaholic
Coraline (IDK how you rate the "violence" in this movie since there's no blood)

Been a long time since I’ve seen it but would Rat Race go in any of these categories? Also you should totally make a letterboxd list, so I (and others) can automatically generate a collection in Jellyfin from your movie choices here.

Probably the some violence category, if I remember the movie well enough. They are competing against each other to get to the prize after all. It's more like cartoon violence though, like Wacky Races except more tame.

I spent like 3 hours making that list. I had a lot of movies to look through and I spent for too much time trying to figure out what to include and which category they go under. Not sure I'm up for spending more time on this. I don't even know what letterboxd is.

Amazing list!! There are a bunch on here I hadn’t heard of before, so thanks for sharing!

Of those I’m familiar with, I think a heads up is warranted for couple of films in your “As Safe as Can Be” section: Office Space (one of my faves) has lots of swearing and some suggestive dialogue (the million dollar question scene comes to mind) and Groundhog Day has lots of references to suicide and one or two makeout scenes.

Also, I watched Happy Gilmore recently with my 11 year old, and she was mortified by Happy’s “Happy Place” dream sequence (I had completely forgotten about that part), so just an FYI that it gets a bit spicy (and weird).

The Spiderverse movies are amazing pieces of art and relatively family friendly given their target audiences.

There are people who worked on them that clearly were paying attention in art class. Some of their work is so subtle I've had to rewind and just sit there stunned in amazement.

I think they've got a bit of something for everyone too.

I forgot to plug the nonprofit Common Sense Media— I frequently check this before watching movies with my fam so I can get a heads up on what themes to expect and gauge whether it would be appropriate for my kid at the moment. The site has rating systems that are pretty detailed: not only info about profanity, drug use, and violence, it also has ratings for representation, gender messages, and educational value. There’s even a “Talk to Your Kids” section that has discussion suggestions specific to that movie. The site isn’t specific to movies, either— it covers books, television, games, etc.

I saw it with two other middle-aged men. We were supposed to go out for drinks afterwards. Instead, we looked down at the floor, and went home.

It was emotionally brutal.
