Fuck short people, I guess.

Alright, where they at?

Man that's low.

No, even lower.

Well, since Verne Troyer (Mini-Me) is gone, I guess you'll have to settle for Danny Devito, Rhea Perlman, Peter Dinklage, etc.

Generally, they have a long rope to pull down. At least here in Japan, it's also the attendants who do it; I don't think I've ever seen this style in self-serv.

Might be that the nozzles extend, once you've paid. At least, some of them seem to be far too high up...

Have you been touched by his noodly appendage?

SanctimoniousApe@lemmings.world · 2 pts · 272d

Yeah, but I still had to pay so I call BS on the FSM being better than any other god - it's just another grifter cult.

Imagine some idiot drives away with the nozzle still in and the pump turns into a litteral fire shower after an errant spark.

Even normal pumps all have a breakaway that includes a shutoff valve to block the source feed, so this probably should be considered a solved non-problem at this point.

We have this (though slightly less UFO-y) in parts of Japan. So far as I can tell, only where space is more limited and I've never seen them as self-serv. Despite what other posts I've seen around the web, most gas stations in Japan are just like you'd find in much of the world with pumps one pulls up to.

Something about having gasoline running through pipes overhead just doesn't feel safe...

SanctimoniousApe@lemmings.world · 4 pts · 272d

Take me to your liter(s of fuel).

JohnnyEnzyme@piefed.social · 3 pts · 272d

Could that possibly be the Soviet version of "Googie"?

jqubed@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 272d (9 replies)

IIRC this was partly to prevent driving off without paying?

acockworkorange@mander.xyz · 9 pts · 272d (8 replies)

...how?

jqubed@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 272d (1 reply)

I think they wouldn’t lower the hose until you’d paid, or put down some deposit.

acockworkorange@mander.xyz · 2 pts · 272d

There are strings dangling from the guns.

tpihkal@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 272d (5 replies)

The gas pump swells as it finishes. If you try to drive off before it shrinks again, they just follow the miles of hose back to your house. Occam's Razor.

SanctimoniousApe@lemmings.world · 2 pts · 272d

Until everyone's so poor that all the hoses become interwoven like some massive knitting project.

Psythik@lemmy.world · 0 pts · 272d (3 replies)

Mate, what the fuck are you on about? I have no idea what you're trying to say.

acockworkorange@mander.xyz · 2 pts · 272d (2 replies)

It's a joke, relax.

Psythik@lemmy.world · 0 pts · 272d (1 reply)

That's fine but I don't understand your comment. There are words there but they're arranged in a combination I cannot comprehend.

acockworkorange@mander.xyz · 0 pts · 272d

Which comment of mine you don't understand?
