I haven't tried shrooms, but idk. LSD had me find religion and got me to face and quit my bullshit basically every trip I've had. Acid trips are long and have different stages.
The biggest difference with shrooms from what I hear is that it isn't all fucking day with time hallucinations to result in it feeling even longer.
Jesus fucking Christ it sure knew where I was in highschool, and just out of highschool. It'll never find me now. I'm over 30 minutes away from the closest thing that claims to be a city, now.
Ayahuasca rituals!
I've seen several severe alcoholics come back from those weekend guided retreats not drinking liquor anymore, now carrying an inner glow, a new peace and contentment that didn't seem to be there before they took the plunge and imbibed that stew in that tent, or around a fire, chants in the background...
Wow! I really wanna believe this beyond just anecdotal cases, that's pretty amazing if so. Seems like a worthwhile endeavor to at least try for anyone with an already years-long established alcohol problem.
These rituals have always been sacraments for pre-Hispanic cultures and religions; as such, in the past couple of decades they have been legalized in both Mexico and the USA.
These ayahuasca or peyote retreats announce their retreats in social media, I know this happens in New Mexico, California and Baja California, surely other states in both countries also have these weekend retreats, but I've personally never been to one of these.
What I have been doing is practicing daily meditation for the past seven years, I haven't really felt the call yet to partake in an ayahuasca ritual.
Psychedelics are like retreats or intensive sessions. They can be awesome and they can feel amazing and productive. And if you're doing the work beforehand or they inspire you to change after they're exactly it. But they won't force you to actually change. Additionally some people just do these things because they enjoy them and may or may not be well adjusted
It almost always comes down to set and setting, imo. You (mostly) get out what you put in.
Don't get me wrong, it can also just be a fun time, but even that should be approached carefully and with some respect to the substance (most of the stories I've heard where someone gets psychically bitch-slapped is when they start getting a little frivolous in their approach. SWIM told me about that once...)
Edit: Also noted they're not useful/good for everyone and that's ok - important to know, even.
i dunno. like, not shrooms, but i have attended two concerts where just the instrumental parts and dancing with those specific crowds changed something deep within me. one of them was two nights ago and the change was right near my L5.

LSD is like self psychotherapy. Shrooms are like church.

So LSD helps and shrooms blame old lies?
krooklochurm@lemmy.ca · 25 pts · 240d
I meant that shrooms tend to be more spiritual, lsd more analytical. Poor choice of similes maybe.
treesapx@lemmy.world · 8 pts · 240d
I'm way more analytical on shrooms. Acid is just a vibe for me.

Same for me, but I have a buddy that's totally the opposite.

LSD finds you. When you're ready.

What? Psilocybin has strong anti-depressive qualities https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC10811389/
A single high dosage of shrooms basically saved my life in college and allowed me to be able to do the work to graduate.

Never knew he messed with mushrooms. If he doesn't, I wish he would, if he is capable of introspection at all.
