It simply has more influence and accumulated data so that people still use it. But Reddit's policies force more and more people to simply abstain from using Reddit as a chatting platform and only to look for useful info in it. Moreover, you don't even need an account to watch non-NSFW things.

Been here since the API exodus. I'm glad the days of reddit bickering are over

robocall@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 226d

Have you considered some Lemmy bickering? /j

They have more content. I spent barely any time there but I still rather type search query Reddit rather than Lemmy. And I have 2 communities for RSS.

WaitThisIsntReddit@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 227d (4 replies)

I did for a while after getting banned. Later though, there was so little value going there it was mostly just habit. Now I barely spend a minute scrolling headlines just for game news and I'm out. It really is a worthless waste of space at this point. If anyone is like I was, just scrolling with no joy, go play a game. Watch a video. Read a book. As a last resort, go outside. Anything is better than scrolling that shit hole. If you're so dopamined you can't experience joy from anything but social media, start by not bringing your phone to the bathroom and do a couple jumping jacks. You'll be a lot happier with the ability to enjoy things with actual substance.

Im still going back mainly for a couple niche communities. Like Project Diablo 2, whos main community is its sub (it was developed off a reddit run Diablo 2 server slash diablo)

Pretty much that, magic the gathering and porn are all i look at redit for.

Only thing I really miss posting on besides those that I haven't found a replacement for here is the shityask science/ history / a lawyer etc subs. Those were fun.

robocall@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 226d

Lemmy has some porn content

diabetic_porcupine@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 227d

But… how will I poop?

i have two people on my enemies list (i cannot believe i would ever have an enemies list but here we are). the first person i ever had to put on it died last week! they were convinced i was going to die twenty years ago and tried to convince me i was going to die twenty years ago so give up and leave all my miniscule property to their cult. i have a trip in june planned to dance on their grave.

edit: oh right! there was a point to that. i swung by reddit yesterday on a whim and wouldn't have found out they died unless i had. so like, there is some small value.

Reddthat...

jaybone@lemmy.zip · 2 pts · 227d

I’m still amused to hear about their drama every now and then.

Melvin_Ferd@lemmy.world · -4 pts · 226d (1 reply)

Lemmy is all AI propaganda

robocall@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 226d

Are you AI?

I can’t blame Reddit mods for putting up filters or Reddit filters on suspected bots. But I can definitely blame Reddit admins for ignoring or encouraging bots for the sake of metrics.

The number of accounts I found with thousands of posts to their own profile trying to game analytics was ridiculous

Bazell@lemmy.zip · 8 pts · 227d (1 reply)

Reddit is trying to do something good but it ends up being even worse than it was. And 1 of the main reasons is greed.

Mr_Fish@lemmy.world · 7 pts · 227d

one of the main reasons is greed

It almost always is

If you think Lemmy doesn't have a bot problem I'm sorry to be the one to burst your bubble. Sure, it seems less pervasive over here but they are just as numerous. The only difference is bots you agree with and bots you don't. There's only one group of bots you are going to be sceptical about and it's getting harder to spot them by the day.

But also, Reddit isn't doing jack shit about it these days. I go there to check the news sometimes when things are slow everywhere else and it's literally just the same bot accounts posting the same articles and bots of various political affiliations posting in the comments. You basically have to cross check everything you see on the internet. Sure, it's a good idea to do so regardless of bots, but the "magic" of other people being on the internet is basically dead.

After 18 years, Reddit went public and I was suddenly hit with temp ban after temp ban for stupid shit until they kicked me for saying the US shouldn’t be allowing the starvation of Palestinian children by one of our “allies”.

I guess, according to Reddit, you can f* children and be worthy of praise, but food and medical supplies is a bridge too far? Get fucked Spez.

It’s one of the few times I wish the orange goblin had a senior moment and bans Reddit for r/obama.

A president lasts 4-10 years. I will always remember these racist pedo fucks and the bootlicking CEOs.

Washedupcynic@lemmy.ca · 2 pts · 226d (1 reply)

I got banned for posting an image of a Ken Doll's genitals, with the text, "Elon's botched penis surgery."

TheAsianDonKnots@lemmy.zip · 2 pts · 226d

That’s SO much cooler than mine 😆

Melvin_Ferd@lemmy.world · 7 pts · 226d (2 replies)

Get rid of mods too. The whole fucking point was to have the community moderate with voting. Somehow it all turned into mods running things and it all went to shit

purple_mimosa@lemmy.world · 5 pts · 226d (1 reply)

I remember when I first joined Reddit, there were clear rules everywhere stating that the downvote button is not a disagree button, but is the comment on-topic button. And it was a much better space back then too. Then the epstein pedos took over to control the narrative, and the rest is history.

Melvin_Ferd@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 226d

I fully believe the issue is that regular people stopped voting and engaging. Everybody became passive except for people trying to push an agenda. If people stayed engaged and continued to vote, they would have drowned them out.

I left after the "Jesus gets us" advertising spam, followed by a year of constant Indian subs in my feed. I'm not Indian. I don't speak Hindi.

robocall@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 226d

ttyybb@lemmy.world · 6 pts · 227d (6 replies)

Got banned from reddit. Still don't know why. Last thing I did was say apple isn't actually good for privacy, then provided sources.

axexrx@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 226d (5 replies)

I know why I got banned.

The mod of anime titties(the babylonian weeb guy who took over the sub) reported me to the administration for 'glorifying violence'

This was for me replying to one of his posts calling for Spain to nuke isreal over the flotilla, and my response was that that wasnt realistic (ya know, because spain doesnt have nukes...)

jambudz@lemmy.zip · 3 pts · 226d

So many bans for glorifying violence. I’m sorry I believe stonewall was important. Hail Saint Marsha

Gonzako@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 226d (3 replies)

Yeah, last I checked we didn't have nukes. Though, they can just send me. I've two nukes for arms

HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 226d

how do you melt your butter or thaw your meat quickly?

Guilvareux@feddit.uk · 1 pts · 226d (1 reply)

That sounds… … precarious. High stakes for getting ketchup out of a glass bottle.

Gonzako@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 226d

Nah, it's fine. I have two screwdrivers with me at all times

Kolanaki@pawb.social · 4 pts · 226d

Back in my day of PHPBB forum usage, we stopped spam by simply having a time limit between posts.

apftwb@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 227d

Does Lemmy have any unique bot filtering techniques?
