I can think of 36 reasons right now...
If he cancels midterms somehow, I expect full scale riot/revolution because fuck this absolute piece of shit pedophile rapist fuck.
He has done a lot of shit that I would expect riots over and yet here we are. Probably find some obscure technically and most will just roll with it saying there is nothing that can be done.
There is always something that can be done, it just comes down to people willing to do it. The harder/riskier the action the fewer people are willing to put themselves on the line.
in France if they raise tuition 3% or raise the retirement age 2 years the entire country empties into the streets and protests angrily. In the US the whole system can be ratfucked and nazified and the reaction is mostly "this sucks, hey did you see the Stranger Things finale?"
Ill be honest. Based on peoples reaction to what has gone on so far im guessing people are going to shake their fists and say well we certainly won't let the next election be cancled.

This is a distraction and he's going to "allow" elections (promise he says it like that implying he has the power to disallow them) but he will fuck with the integrity of the vote through intimidation, fraud, and legal challenge.
