Mitch Allen gave it to BFS because he thought it would be a better fit. He absolutely was right about that...but if you find the SR-71 version, it's not that bad on its own.
Sorta like "Hey Mario"...that was also a cover.
Also BFS has an album of all pop covers, and it's fun.
90s and early aughts are in a weird place radio-wise, maybe because they're still touring in many cases. So I'll hear them on a station dedicated to older rock, alongside GnR, Doors, whatever; turn to a contemporary alt station and it's 90s bands alongside newer stuff like Tame Impala or Sombr.
Then there's Sublime which... uh, kinda unique because the dead lead singers son is the new singer and they sound exactly the same so it's like they time traveled from 90s to today. Lol
I remember being impressed how Blink changed up their sound as they kept making music. Hard to believe Dude Ranch (97) was only 2 years from Enema (99).
I get it. We've gotta be careful with our joints (especially hips) at this age. Everything hurts! Makes me think of that classic oldie by 61-year-old Pearl Jam elder statesman Edward Vedder.

In 2004, 19 years after 1985, Bowling for Soup made a song about 1985. That is now 22 years ago..
Edit: math

2004 was 19 years after 1985 and it has been 22 years since 2004.

That song was actually made by/for SR-71.
