It’s very weird to me that some states let spouses sue a third party for their partner’s infidelity. Sinema is clearly a morally bankrupt asshole, but this guy cheated on his wife.

I always thought the "how dare you fuck my partner" instead of "how dare my partner fuck someone else" was really weird...

... Story time!

When I was about 14 I was with my second partner (17 or 18 then) in the back of a car with one of their friends. My partner started getting all touchy then leaned forward and shook their ass between the two of us, and they grabbed and put their friend's hand on their butt. I thought it was weird but didn't react much in the moment, just kinda withdrew. Later they said they were disappointed that I didn't get mad at their friend and get possessive / tell the friend to stop. Like.... What?! YOU moved THEIR hand and continued to encourage them; why on earth would I be mad at THEM?

Unsurprisingly they took my virginity while cheating on me and left (: learned a lot of valuable lessons.

But yeah, partners are responsible for their half of the monogamous contract: if they break it, I hardly give any shits about third parties (unless they should have told me, like a friend etc). But sueing them? That's even another level of weird

At least you got laid. Based on those actions, she had to be pretty sexy. Please see a hot sexy scale for context if need be.

So this isn't unprecedented then? I've never heard of a spouse suing their ex's lover before... That doesn't make any sense to me.

BertramDitore@lemmy.zip · 10 pts · 243d

Not unprecedented, but still very strange, doesn’t make sense to me either.

From the article:

North Carolina is one of a handful of states that allow jilted spouses to sue for “alienation of affection” to seek damages from a third party responsible for the breakup of their marriage.

gustofwind@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 243d

Maybe it’s like interfering with a marriage contract or something and it’s worth money 🤷‍♀️

ceenote@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 243d

It's probably more of a "give me money to not damage your reputation" lawsuit.

Absolute Sinema

hector@lemmy.today · 4 pts · 243d

Yeah the affair was a sinematic performance I'm sure.

ImgurRefugee114@reddthat.com · 3 pts · 243d

Ooooh that's good

TheAsianDonKnots@lemmy.zip · 27 pts · 243d (15 replies)

Crazy. She was a democrat that voted republican and now a lesbian who slept with a straight man? Starting to feel like none of these people are real.

Foreigner@lemmy.world · 20 pts · 243d (12 replies)

Sinema is a piece of shit *but she never claimed to be a lesbian. She came out as bisexual.

jim@lemmy.org · 1 pts · 243d (11 replies)

Just to get votes.

Foreigner@lemmy.world · 17 pts · 243d (10 replies)

Eh speculating on whether someone is being honest about their orientation gives me the ick. A lot of biphobic people won't believe someone is actually bi unless they have proof someone has dated people of different genders, and I'm not about that y'all. She's garbage whether she's honest about he orientation or not.

empireOfLove2@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 7 pts · 243d

I will take people in day to day life at face value of their orientation, all day every day. But I will remain sceptical of politicians and other "celebrities" whose entire job is to generate news headlines and pander for public support.

I knew her personally when she was the 15 Rep. I mean, we weren’t friends or anything, but we had overlapping social circles. She actually wasn’t too crazy back then, but she was definitely into appealing to certain audiences. There was a huge gay scene ant the time, and they would show up to her events because she was “one of us.”

I would be very shocked to find any indication that she ever had a female partner. Like, she’s never had a girlfriend to my knowledge.

ClockworkOtter@lemmy.world · 6 pts · 243d (7 replies)

I'm a bi man but have never had a male partner and never will.

captainlezbian@lemmy.world · 5 pts · 243d (2 replies)

Yeah, as a lesbian it's a really common experience for us to have had multiple bi partners of whom we were the first or only female partner. In addition to the fact that straight people outnumber gay people and even if bi people are the plurality there's external pressures.

But also with women there's the lesbian ewe problem where because of the fact that women's role in traditional straight courtship is reactive there's a tendency towards a whole lot of signaling interests and hoping the other acts first. In my experience bi women struggle with it more as it doesn't entirely impede their ability to find a partner.

jim@lemmy.org · -3 pts · 243d

What I was trying to indicate is that I have reason to believe, based on knowing her, that she has never actually had sex with a woman and has never thought of another woman sexually.

I believe her entire “bisexual” stuff was to get more votes during a particular political point in her life. And it worked.

As we all know, sexuality is a spectrum—but hers is “mostly straight” and not “bisexual” as she would have people believe.

Curiosity: by "partner" do you mean sex partner or life partner?

ClockworkOtter@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 243d

Either

jim@lemmy.org · 1 pts · 243d (1 reply)

Is that because you are married to a woman?

ClockworkOtter@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 243d

Effectively

That jilted spouse is like the voters, the cheating bodyguard is the oil companies and other corporations. And sinema as always is like a piece of shit.

CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 243d

I still think her persona was boiled down to its very essence on SNL, when they had her say "I just want to watch the world burn".

I'm so unsurprised by this...

Crackhappy@lemmy.world · -7 pts · 243d (1 reply)

Whatever. I don't give a fuck. Downvote.

reddig33@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 243d

I get where you’re coming from. The story seems like much ado about nothing, and a distraction so many more important things to report on right now.

People have sex. This is not news.
