It was obvious the moment they increased ICE funding 10x, to more than most militaries.
It will take years to install nazi loyalists and culture throughout the existing military and intelligence agencies, so the nazis chose to convert a small federal agency into their own secret police; explicitly recruiting as many far right criminals, extremists, and terrorists as possible.
ICE will be used to implement the military dictatorship by terrorizing all antifascists from here on out.

well this is just right out of the Nazi playbook. If this is for Vance and whomever else then generally this is the job of the Secret Service but it's clear now the administration doesn't trust the SS and would rather have their own people involved. Hitler pulled the same shit with the SA.
In fact I wouldn't be surprised if eventually Trump just dissolves the secret service in favor of ICE. It would be very convenient for them wouldn't it? all of sudden your former political enemies (Obama, Biden, Clinton) no longer have Secret Service protection and they can either go without or have ICE...yeah nothing at all could go wrong here.

The Mafia and most, if not all organized crime syndicates, started as a way for people to defend themselves from abusive governments, officials, etc. Mafia thrives by getting along with people, not openly prey on them.
Syndicates also tend to be patriotic, in the sense that they are defending or at least looking to preserve their interests where they are rooted.
Mafia tends to arbour great disdain for police and similar forces. They can be useful if bribeable or somehow coherced to look the other way but they are still police. The enemy.
I'll give you an extreme example.
In Brasil, the Comando Vermelho is one of the largest, if not te largest, criminal organization on the country. They are well known for their extremely violent and cruel methods. Yet they are the biggest employers in the areas they control. They build schools, pay people for their work (mostly unrelated to criminal activities), distribute food, run clinics. They act as de facto police, courts and punishers, to keep peace. They nearly replace the state because the state nearly abandoned the poorest of poor, amongst who they set grounds, in the favelas.
I can't imagine the resistance they would pose to an invading force.
And, I can't confirm this, but I have a memory of reading somewhere that during WW2, the Mafia helped the Allies infiltrate areas.

Is anyone else just not feeling the Olympics this year?
I'm not a sports person and don't have a whole lot of national pride on a good day, but I've liked watching the Olympics since I was a kid.
I enjoy seeing people from all over the world with such outstanding abilities, experiencing the aesthetics of people from different places, and rooting for the underdogs.
This year, I'm just embarrassed of America. I hate seeing the rise of right wing ideology worldwide. I miss and worry about my former co-workers in Ukraine. There's constant pain, suffering, and death in Palestine and the middle east.
I don't know...it should be a bit of an escape, but the whole thing is bumming me out this year.
