You are right, same for me here.
Already had problems playing new videos for a few days, but app restarts did help until yesterday.
But not anymore...

@Multiplexer @WanderingKnight big fan of newpipe also but meanwhile is LibreTube an option?

Do you have it? Does it still work for you?
Latest update on fdroid is already 3 months old.
Just tested it, didn't work for me, playback doesn't start.

PipePipe is still working for me. Theres now also PipePipe-X, apparently
ctry21@sh.itjust.works · 6 pts · 210d
Same here. It seems compatible with NewPipe's import/export so it's easy enough to jump over with subscriptions and settings intact while it isn't working. Tubular which is also forked from NewPipe had an update earlier but the connection error remains on it for now.

Just moved over to PipePipe-X today and really liking it. Player is much smoother, especially transitioning from PiP to full screen and back.

Only saw pipe pipe yesterday when looking for alternatives to NewPipe that might work, what does it bring that's better?
Coelacanth@feddit.nu · 3 pts · 209d
I haven't dug into it deeply so I'm sure there is more in the backend too, but on the visual side it's gotten a slightly modernized redesign and support for Material You. But from a user perspective one thing I've noticed is the actual video player seems significantly smoother and particularly switching between picture-in-picture and fullscreen and back seems a lot smoother (which I do a lot).
Overall it's just like PipePipe but better. As someone who's been using PipePipe for a long time there's really no reason not to go straight to PipePipe-X. You should be able to import your user settings and history straight from NewPipe too.

Did you get it direct from the apk or via fdroid? I can only see original pipepipe
Coelacanth@feddit.nu · 1 pts · 209d
I downloaded the apk from GitHub.

Good news! There seems to be a hotfix release:
https://github.com/TeamNewPipe/NewPipe/releases/tag/v0.28.2
WanderingKnight@noauthority.social · 1 pts · 209d
@Multiplexer
Well, that didn't last long. I'm already getting blocked!
Multiplexer@discuss.tchncs.de · 1 pts · 209d
Really? And I haven't even received the update via F-Droid yet...
WanderingKnight@noauthority.social · 1 pts · 208d
@Multiplexer
I get update notices threw the app. Fdroid is about a day or 2 later.

0.27.6 works for me via the fdroid repo. Export settings , the install that version then reimport your settings.

@JoeKrogan
That was a bust! I reinstalled 28.2, and it working again.
JoeKrogan@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 209d
Sorry to hear that. I had no luck with 0.28.2 when i tried it earlier only the old version. Glad the newer one is working for you anyway
JoeKrogan@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 210d
Been like that for ages for me too. I was using the nightly from github to get it work for a while but it seems nothing plays now.

Not NewPipe but Invidious is still working
onlooker@lemmy.ml · 1 pts · 209d
There are still working Invidious instances? Which one are you using?
WanderingKnight@noauthority.social · 1 pts · 208d
@onlooker @steve_freiheit
My main focus is on downloading not streaming. When the VPN is working it goes from kB to MB speeds. I rarely stream unless it's less than 4 minutes or so.
Currently, I disable the VPN to start the download, then turn it on again for a speedy finish. It's rather tedious, but when I'm in a slow cell signal area, it works fine.
