My main focus is on downloading not streaming. When the VPN is working it goes from kB to MB speeds. I rarely stream unless it's less than 4 minutes or so.
Currently, I disable the VPN to start the download, then turn it on again for a speedy finish. It's rather tedious, but when I'm in a slow cell signal area, it works fine.

It's worst under a VPN. Eventually, I can get it to initiate a download. 5 to 10 attempts v. 2-3 without a VPN. 🤔

The major reason I love Newpipe is the commercials are blocked, and even better removed altogether.
