I get sleepy from methylphenidante. It's a strange feeling to get tired and being able to focus better at the same time. Changing to lisdexamfetamin helped a lot.
i was on medikinet for a while, at first it made me sleepy, then it made me relaxed, and then it made me anxious, so i stopped
whenever i take brain-chemistry meds for longer than a week or two my brain defaults to having them give me anxiety which is whack (this happens with meds for anxiety as well, thanks brain! you gelatinous wanker). after multiple trials of various meds i've mostly given up on trying more, but hey at least cardio works as intended!
i'm still bitter about one thing - all those people who kept saying "just eat healthy and exercise and you'll feel better :)))" were correct 💀 at least in my case
Damn, that sucks. Out of curiosity, did you also try guanfacine? I read good things about it in articles but somehow never read actual experience from people who are actually affected and need an alternative to stimulants.
And yes, cardio helps a lot. I do some running and yoga, both are good in a physical way and for mindfulness.
You say that but I ran into actual musicians in Orlando who never heard of Vivaldi. And after I introduced my roommate to four seasons, he was telling all his friends like it was some underground, esoteric information.
Yeah but how do you get them to tell you? When i find them they only say shit like 'what? Who are you?' or 'please don't hurt me'. I got an ex military er doc once who didnt panic, but this was in chicago and he went straight for the gun under his pillow.
Ill spend all day watching tips instead of making use of them, tiktoks a hole, I always end up deleting it (and redloading it when I need quick dopamine, but then I rememeber it makes me more annoyed/mad these days 5 minutes in)
My wife started watching tt, I had just escaped the youtube client, reddit and facebook. I watched we swipe past 6 things and pause to watch one for 30 seconds, then swipe through 4 more. OHHH FUCK NO, NOT TODAY SATAN.
I do have to admit, She gets her news a LOT faster than I do. But she also gets a tremendous amount of knee-jerk conjecture.
One trick that may help is asking her if she has a reputable source. I got sucked into believing what I saw on reddit a few years ago and that's what my wife did. Got to the point that when I tell her the news I say who said it if it sounds sensational and like it may be unrealistic.
Crux of the problem, I fear. There's no real way to sus out that a ticktocker is reputable or not, and as opposed to Reddit, those people are getting paid for eyes. Unless you're looking at a video from a legend, they could be right or doing it for the watches.
He has also retired his Channel now, so no new content. But that's recent, so his videos aren't too outdated and I learned a lot about ADHD through them without having to weed through misinformation.

Trouble sleeping? Have you tried meth?
shneancy@lemmy.world · 41 pts · 191d
ironically, stimulants make me sleepy, depressants also make me sleepy
there are only two ways i can wake up:
psychedelics, not exactly helpful if the thing i need to wake up for requires me to have an attention span longer than 5s
cardio, so when others are drinking coffee, i'm doing jumping jacks in the toilet
Tippon@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 41 pts · 191d
Yes HR committee, that's what the puffing and grunting coming from the toilet cubicle was, honest!
shneancy@lemmy.world · 7 pts · 191d
i always stop before puffing and grunting exactly because of that T–T and i try to jump as quietly as possible

If "just" eating healthy and sleeping at regular times and exercising was easy, I most likely wouldn't have an ADHD diagnosis.
It's true, but I am not able to facilitate all of the above reliably...
shneancy@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 191d
never said it was easy hah, i wish the meds worked so i could get some help in that regard, but here i am, trying my best anyway

i can assure you i'm not 20cm tall to be jumping in a toilet, i am merely european
Tolookah@discuss.tchncs.de · 3 pts · 191d
I would expect you'd not want to be in the toilet if European, but to each their own. Just make sure to get out if Eurapoopan
Edit: this joke was funnier in my head

toilet floors are usually unpissed on over where i live (unless it's a petrol station, but those don't count!)
i used to do that with my diet meth (medikinet), i ate the pill and 30min later it was sleepy time

Me- "I got a problem with certain addictions."
Them- "have you tried heroin?"
cassandrafatigue@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 7 pts · 191d
To be fair, thats a classic as far as addictions go. Like recommending vivaldi's 'four seasons' or chopin's nocturnes to domeone who likes classical.

YiddishMcSquidish@lemmy.today · 2 pts · 191d
Yeah. And what's weird to me is there is such a strong music scene in Orlando!

To be fair, tiktok does have a lot of adhd tips. It's just interspersed with misinformation and ragebait

Yeah it you can find an actual doctor/ psychiatrist with legit credentials, usually they are enthusiasticly sharing tips and discoveries

Maybe give real advice?

I learnt a lot through Russell Barkley's youtube Channel. A retired ADHD researcher.

ADHD flavour: I read it as AD&D.
Iron_Lynx@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 190d
ADHD AD&D:
FAE: May I have your attention?
YOU: Sure you may
FAE: K thnx! 🙂 (Disappears)
The campaign to recover your attention is entirely comprised of sidequests, and played using AD&D 2nd edition rules

I saw a health magazine that was featuring ADHD at CVS. Everything on there was coping mechanisms.
Nothing about acceptance and/or it being ok to not always be able to mentally perform tasks other people hav no difficulty with.
And that pissed me the hell off.
