This means there may be a chance KPop Demon Hunters will be released on Blu-ray...fingers crossed.KPop Demon Hunters is definitely getting released on 4K Blu-ray. Thanks to Criterion for saving it from the Netflix catalogue!

Did they re-render it in 4k? The album cover for the songs is literally a 1080p screencap from the movie upsized with text.

It's not necessary to re-render the animation in 4K - in fact, the majority of both live action and animated 4K Blu-rays are just 2K upscales. The real benefits come from HDR.

You’re telling me the majority of movies are mastered in 2k right now? I don’t think that’s correct.

Animation, especially certain styles, upscales quite nicely.

Film is inherently 4k. Digital tries to reach that 4k resolution the best it can.

No. 4k is about 8 megapixels, and 35mm film is 16-24 megapixels depending on iso and other factors, 70mm film is 4 times that.

Thank you

I would have thought they would render it at something high like 4K in the first place, since it's easy to downsample to 1080p? Unless, I suppose rendering is expensive and if you know you only need 1080p then maybe you wouldn't?
LodeMike@lemmy.today · 0 pts · 184d
Oh no it's rendered and released in 1080p. It's so stupid.

Wish someone had saved Bandersnatch before it was too late... that one hurt to hear about.

Does the Critereon version of Frankenstein have a third act?
socsa@piefed.social · 3 pts · 184d
The third act is when they back on the boat and he's about to murder him but he dies first and his last words are an incredibly haunting

I can't wait to see some super serious actor or director randomly get KPop Demon Hunters off the shelf during their Closet Picks interview.
