Alrighty.

1 in person 3rd stage interview

2 first stage phone interviews.

Let's see what happens.

Edit:

My right ear has been blocked for a week and a half and I just got it cleaned.

It is fucking GLORIOUS to not constantly hear myself breathing.

SpinMeAround@aussie.zone · 4 pts · 172d (1 reply)

What an awesome feeling that is!! I need to get mine done, they're so close to blocking up. Good luck with the interviews!

Gibsonhasafluffybutt@aussie.zone · 4 pts · 172d

Highly recommend doing it. It's awesome!

And thanks! I've had one already which was OK. The in person is at 1pm then another call at 3pm.

SituationCake@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 172d

Good luck!

Yep, so now it's home time and late start tomorrow

There's this American guy (or maybe Canadian, I'm no good at telling the accents apart) sitting in the co-working open plan area today (in a group of 4) and he is literally SHOUTING his conversation. Non-stop talking since I arrived. I will be getting no work done today. I think I'm going to move for the day instead of asking them to STFU, I don't feel like a confrontation.

SaneMartigan@aussie.zone · 6 pts · 172d (2 replies)

Canuks tend to be less cunty like that, sounds American to me.

MeanElevator@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 172d

True for the most part. There are assholes amongst us, but we tend to be quieter in public.

Yanks don't have indoor voices.

Seagoon_@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 172d

Canadians are polite, they would never do that.

In happier news, one of my neighbours has an assistance dog in training, and I've just witnessed him doing something very impressive.

I like my new car. Itโ€™s fun to drive, looks cute, sounds great.

::: spoiler STOP BEEPING AT ME. I just wish that it would shut the fuck up. I donโ€™t need to be told every time thereโ€™s a speed change. I donโ€™t need to be beeped at every time I go 1km over the limit. Stop telling me thereโ€™s a line near me. Why do I care if my door is open for a moment while I check something and the engine is off.

Thankfully most of it can be switched off pretty easily, but oh my god itโ€™s so fucking annoying and has to be done every time I start the car. I want to drive a car, not have a car telling me how to drive. :::

RustyRaven@aussie.zone · 8 pts · 172d (1 reply)

I really don't like all of those automatic things. I like simple controls that I am in control of. It was one reason I resisted updating my car for so long, and only did when I realised I could get a van that didn't have all those extras as standard. It's not just the beeps and stuff either, too much in the way of sensors in everything make repairs a lot more expensive.

Seagoon_@aussie.zone · 4 pts · 172d

I too like simple and elegant

It wasnโ€™t a good one yesterday.

::: spoiler Cat rescue I reached out to the rescue contact and explained the trapping difficulties, said I could try and detain the cat in the house for a chip scan and maybe foster.

But the pressure to keep him was intense and she even straight up said he would help me get over Melbcat. I was halfway through setting up a quarantine area with an enclosure but got overwhelmed and had a bit of a breakdown. :::

::: spoiler Going mental I was dreaming of paying for more operations for a still living Melbcat, taking shady abusive jobs and pretending she was another cat for discounts to afford them. Yeah Iโ€™m really not mentally okay. :::

Then just now I wanted to do the neglected dishes with the mini dishwasher I never got around to selling. Who cares if theyโ€™re covered in soap after, Iโ€™m not very hungry. I just want them cleaned and put away. โ€ฆIt broke.

Edit: Black cat came by again ::: spoiler spoiler so I was able to give food and apply this monthโ€™s spot on. But he hissed when I gently picked him up a few inches off the ground. He was also most distressed by the paper collar, dodging and more hissing while I tried to put it on him. Itโ€™s on, without even restraining him because Iโ€™m just that deft.

But yes, he sat around being angry about the collar for a minute and heโ€™s now run off quite pissed with me. Thereโ€™s been a rupture of trust.

Iโ€™m now less confident about quarantine or fostering, and if he went into the system the hissing risks him being put down. ::: Edit: He pulled the paper collar off.

Seagoon_@aussie.zone · 4 pts · 172d (4 replies)

hugs

about the dishes, when miss seagoon stayed she wanted Fairy dishwashing tablets, said they worked better , and rinse aid

here's the thing, I rinse all the gunk off dishes before hand, she doesn't

I have been using eco brands that have no perfumes

I was really put off by the strong perfumes in the main brands

so you are not alone in this and not OCD, it really is unacceptable how strongly perfumed every thing is

and black cat is ok, he is still figuring things out, Bill hid and wouldn't let anyone touch him for six weeks. Now he's devoted to everyone and we to him. Black cat will be ok. As will you. ๐Ÿ˜˜

SaneMartigan@aussie.zone · 5 pts · 172d

Most of the time I'd rather smell the odour than the perfume.

melbaboutown@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 172d (2 replies)

The dishwasher threw an E4 error and wonโ€™t stop making a pumping noise even after off and on, probably overfilled due to a sensor error. Maybe flooded something internal. May not resolve and I donโ€™t want to risk trying to repair it myself. I probably canโ€™t sell it now and third party = warranty nightmare if itโ€™s still valid. If it doesnโ€™t work again Iโ€™ll dispose of it when I get time and take the loss.

I donโ€™t know what to do with him. Iโ€™m busy cleaning but will print the posters and ask for help sticking them up. I may assemble the enclosure just to have an emergency spot ready if he gets injured or cannot stay out there, but I need to slow my roll and likely canโ€™t keep him.

Seagoon_@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 172d (1 reply)

maybe just keep doing what you're doing with him

melbaboutown@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 172d

Maybe. I just find the status quo pretty stressful with the ringworm

SituationCake@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 172d

I hope today is a better day. Youโ€™re allowed to be firm with the rescue person. They probably mean well and donโ€™t know how stressful this is for you. โ€˜I canโ€™t right now, and please donโ€™t pressure me furtherโ€™ is perfectly ok to say.

Alamutjones@aussie.zone · 6 pts · 172d (10 replies)

Someone has stolen my doormat.

โ€ฆI have questions

RustyRaven@aussie.zone · 4 pts · 172d

Some people will steal anything that's not bolted down (and sometimes they'll steal that too, along with the bolts).

I find it easier to deal with such despicable acts if I anthropomiphise to a ridiculous degree - your doormat has just reached an age where it wants more independence and has set off to travel the world. It's out there somewhere living it's best life, getting to experience other doorsteps and being stepped on by a wide array of interesting people.

SituationCake@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 172d

People are weird.

Alamutjones@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 172d (1 reply)

It's,a good doormat and all, but like...it's a doormat. A used, generic doormat

Thornburywitch@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 172d

That's a puzzler alright.

SpinMeAround@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 172d (1 reply)

Meanwhile I crashed at 8:30 so hard I woke up at 11pm thinking it was morning and struggled to get back to sleep!

RustyRaven@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 172d (1 reply)

I used to have sleep patterns like that. I found when there wasn't anything forcing me to be up at any particular time I'd keep about a 26-28 hour day, going to bed and getting up a couple of hours later each day. The rotational shift work I'm doing worked fairly well with that, doing two 12 hour day shifts followed by two 12 hour night shifts, then four days off to reset.

I found that the patterns changed as I got older though - I went through a period where I stopped being able to stay up overnight and changed to doing all day shifts, and have now moved back again to the rotating shifts which are working ok again, but I'm finding it harder to sleep during the day than I used to.

I always found the most important thing is to not stress about when I 'should' be sleeping, or how much sleep I should get. I also cycle through periods where I seem to need around 10 hours sleep a night and others where I only seem to need 5 or 6. I try to just let my body do what it wants as much as I can within the constraints of work etc. and not stress about it too much. If I start to think about it too much it just adds another thing to be circling my brain and stop me from getting to sleep.

think I'll go into the city and get some walking exercise and do a few errands

I don't deny the news lately, life lately, has been tough, and it's hard to get motivated

SituationCake@aussie.zone · 4 pts · 172d

Incidental exercise is great, walking around the shops all adds up! But I hear you on the motivation. Itโ€™s an ongoing struggle for me, and external events donโ€™t help. Iโ€™m envious of people who are always full of drive and energy. For me itโ€™s having to push myself through the day, every day. I donโ€™t have any solutions.
