The LG 27GM950B is a 5k 27" with 2,304 dimming zones and a 165 Hz refresh rate. I have a strong suspicion that this is the same panel as is in the new XDR. They haven't announced pricing and full specs yet, but I doubt it's going to be more than $1,800, meaning the Apple XDR will be $1,500 more for a webcam, an aluminum case, and some speakers.

The LG LG 32U990A-S 6k is a good replacement, minus the local dimming, for the old 6k and has Thunderbolt 5.

Based on the rumors, I was expecting an actual upgrade to the Studio Display with mini-LED with the price remaining the same. Instead they went with this absurd offering.

holy price but the xdr being 5k 27" miniled 120hz is kind of my perfect monitor

Might I ask why you need a "5K" resolution on a 27" panel?

im really picky when it comes to resolution scaling since i do some design, so i have to use an integer scale. 5k gives me a 1440p monitor's worth of screen real estate at twice the sharpness.

27" fits more comfortably on my desk with a laptop mounted too. 220ppi is just nice to have.

Ah makes sense. I never realized this resolution is exactly four times the pixels of 1440p. Thank you for sharing.

Well they keep making them, so they probably have some buyers.

Honestly, its probably not a bad deal considering its a nice display + camera + speakers + microphone + laptop charger. Saves on a ton of desk real estate.
