I mean, people shouldn't be beaten to death in prison, because that's not how prison is supposed to work. Doubt anyone will shed any tears for Huntley though. Monstrous, what he did.

Karin Slaughter is one of my favorite crime novelists.

She had an interesting take; she said that the reason child molesters have trouble in prison is because a lot of the prisoners were molested themselves. It isn't about avenging other people's kids.

well, yes. that would be my first guess. you had previously thought that people in jail just didnt like the idea of someone hurting kids? as in they are the avengers of children?

I always thought of it in terms of "we're professional criminals, we go against the police and society as a whole.

"We don't want to be locked up with dirty perverts."

I saw it as a pride thing, tbh.

That's why when I read Ms. Slaughter's line it really hit home.

I was seeing the macho image they wanted to convey, and ignoring the hurt children who were lashing out.

To be honest Ian Watkins and Jimmy Saville were probably more notorious. Although I am pretty sure neither were murderers though, my desire to research it could not be lower.

They had much higher profiles than Ian Huntley before being revealed as nonces.

Lucy Letby. You're right, she's probably number one. Also probably innocent. Many expert came out to say the evidence used to convict her was bullshit.

Literally the first time i heard of the case the first thought i had was about how exactly the same kind of case had been brought against nurses before and every time they’ve turned out to be innocent and the evidence is just people not understanding statistics

I first heard about it on a true crime podcast that I really like (Casual Criminalist, which is incidentally hosted by a British guy) but I didn't realize that the evidence was being questioned.
