Why would they change the formula from the last movie? These are movies to push kids to buy the Nintendo merchandise. If you're going into the movie expecting a cohesive and thought provoking story, you're going to be disappointed.
Not that surprising, considering this is a Galaxy-inspired film. It opens the door for them to drop all kinds of cameos and test the reception to them with the end goal of further Nintendo film franchises.

I genuinely hope the run time accomodates all these new characters. Otherwise I feel it'll be all style, no substance like the last movie.
