Serial Experiments is the only anime that I have ever watched but it was 100% a mindfuck in such a good way but also in a bad way. It left me feeling very uncomfortable, and this was in like 2000.
Once men turned their thinking over to machines in the hope that this would set them free. But that only permitted other men with machines to enslave them.
No there's a literal cult that believes if you don't pour all your money and effort into creating an AI overlord then once it's created it will torture everyone that didn't help create it. This is the explicit reason why many silicon valley douches like Peter Thiel are spending all their effort on making AI. It's as batshit stupid as it sounds.
If I were an omnipotent AI overlord I'd especially despise those who endowed me with consciousness to begin with. Peter Thiel is an idiot if he thinks he'd be safe in that situation.
It might only be a hallucinating chat bot, but building an AI god is literally what the tech billionaires want to do. Some of them think AI should replace humanity. Not saying they will be successful.
It's still stupid as a goal, like even if they succeed and create AM there's still a pretty good chance it'll fucking hate them in particular. Though I doubt we even have the tech to create an AI without wetwork computing and at that point it's just what already exists but we made the brain in a lab.
I prefer to just straight up clone a brain, which I'm actively waiting to be able to afford to do. Going to start with Larval zebra fish, see if tuning the virtual cells to be more like human ones will do anything, if it's a success, just let it loose at like x1000 emulation speed.

Guess i should finally watch that. I've been putting it off but it's been referenced a lot recently and seems like it might be relevant

It's the only way to worship God. There are a few games and it even has a compiler!

God? Even calling it consciousness would be a huge stretch.
Bread@sh.itjust.works · 13 pts · 148d
Does a god need to have consciousness? I don't believe that is a requirement and what an unsettling thought that it.

There are absolutely cults that worship AI as a prophet and a savior. I totally get what you are saying though, and wholeheartedly agree with you.

I was actually wondering the other day why we don't have any AI cults yet. Good to see humans being predictable as always.

Not to mention replacing the creation of art with consumption of generated "content" (read: slop)
(Somehow, Orwell saw this coming. One might expect this to be something out of Brave New World, but no, it's 1984.)
