I don't play a ton of mobile games, but the ones I have tried: the ads just fail to load. Most games even treat it like the ad was watched and give you whatever reward was behind the ad view.
That's why I prefer pihole over things like nextdns; it's quick and easy to modify filters to allow things through and fix specific blockages that shouldn't be there. Or just disable the blocking altogether to be automatically reenabled shortly after.
I'd rather take the occasional 30sec to bypass the blocking now and again vs seeing ads on every possible digital surface.
It's been well over a year since I had to do even that.

... You guys get ads on mobile?
With pihole + revanced, I almost never see ads.
/edit: openvpn keeps my phone behind pihole while roaming/away from home.

Yeah, I'm over here with NextDNS, Grayjay, and uBlock like 'those poor bastards'

I use AdGuard; it's not perfect, but it's simpler than anything else and it works, I don't know, maybe 80-90%.

Not even inside games?

Yes, not even inside games.
When we're out of the house like during vacations, the kid will automatically warn me when I forget to turn on the VPN because of the ads he gets.

Only trash ones have ads inside

Problem is it crashes many apps and blocks important features

Fucking temu ads go to the link, no matter how dead-on you hit the damn thing with a stylus.
MidsizedSedan@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 135d
If you believe the ad I saw at work, Temu is having a closing down sale. :SeemsGood:

Remember to come back next year for our annual closing down sale... /s
Supposedly they're restructuring to serve all US orders from US warehouses and local suppliers. Not sure how well that'll work, but ok.

The x stands for "inxtall" on those.
SourDrink@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 135d
I think they collect a shot ton of your data whenever you watch those ads on those free to play games.

I'm starting to install the occasional game to my phone. Aurora app store, tell the app no internet access.
9/10 games freeze and are unusable, or just crash.

And that's why i root. The few proprietary apps i use, have no ads anymore.
